John Dramani Mahama has pledged that the stalled La General Hospital project will be completed, assuring Ghanaians that his administration will not abandon unfinished health infrastructure.

Presenting his State of the Nation Address in Parliament, President Mahama declared: “My government remains firm in its commitment not to abandon unfinished projects.”

He said work would continue on key facilities across the country, including the La General Hospital, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The President also directed the Ministry of Health to issue guidelines to eliminate what he termed the “unacceptable no-bed syndrome.”

“No patient should be sent away from any health facility they report to,” he stated, adding that emergency cases must be attended to “even under makeshift conditions.”

Beyond La, he announced that the Sewua Regional Hospital, the Afari Military Hospital and the maternity and children’s block of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital would be completed.

“In 2026, budget provisions will be made to commence regional hospitals in the Bono East, Savannah and Western North Regions,” he added.

President Mahama said the broader goal is to build “a stronger, more resilient and self-reliant health system for all Ghanaians,” capable of delivering reliable and equitable care nationwide.
