Ghanaian gospel musician Perez Musik has thrown his support behind the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music production, describing it as a valuable tool that is making the creative process easier and more efficient.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Perez Musik cited dancehall artiste Shatta Wale as an example of a musician who has smartly embraced AI in his music production.
“Shatta is smart. I listen to a wide range of music because I am an artiste so when I saw Shatta Wale’s African King album I wanted to know what it’s about. There is one of the songs that he used the AI choir and it is beautiful,” he said.
Perez stated that he also used AI for some aspects of his music production, although he didn’t rely solely on it. The musician further explained that he did not use AI-generated music as the final recording but rather as a demo to help shape his ideas before heading into the studio.
“These days, AI has also become part of my creative process. For this particular song, I didn’t use AI, I used Logic Pro. But now, I don’t stress myself as much. Sometimes, when I get an idea for a song, I type it into an AI tool. If the output isn’t exactly what I want, I simply refine my prompt until it generates something closer to my vision,” he said on Hitz FM.
“I don’t record the AI-generated song. I only use it to create a demo or sketch. In the past, we had to go to the studio just to record a rough demo. Now, you can create that initial sketch right on your phone,” he added.
Perez Musik also highlighted that the effectiveness of AI depends on how well users communicate their ideas through prompts, detailing instructions to help generate better results.
“The key is knowing how to prompt the AI properly. You have to tell it exactly what you want, where you want certain instruments, where you want the music to change, or how you want the arrangement to flow. Once you do that, it gives you a solid idea to work with,” he stated.
While acknowledging concerns about the misuse of AI, the gospel musician maintained that technology should not be condemned, insisting that it could be used productively.
