The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Ms. Shalimar Abbiusi, former spokesperson for The New Force, has no criminal record in Ghana.

A police clearance certificate dated October 2025, obtained by The Chronicle, states that Ms. Abbiusi has never been convicted of any criminal offence in Ghana.

The certificate, issued by the Criminal Data Services Bureau (CDSB) of the CID, after a thorough background check, is valid for six months and confirms that her name “does not appear in the criminal records of the Ghana Police Service.”

The clearance comes nearly two years after a highly publicised controversy that began in December 2023, when Ms Abbiusi was arrested over allegations of false declaration regarding her immigration status.

While the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) later withdrew the charge, she was rearrested and deported on December 19, 2023 a move later ruled unlawful by the ECOWAS Court.

The confirmation from the CID provides formal clarity following prolonged public debate, social media speculation and political commentary surrounding Ms Abbiusi’s detention and deportation.

Ms Shalimar Abbiusi currently serves on the Advisory Board of the African Unions (AU) Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC). Her appointment followed her victory at the ECOWAS Court.
