Serene Insurance Company nearly lost US$140,000.00 to a grand scheme allegedly deployed by Kofi Anane Kyeremanteng, Alfred Adjei Dickson, Abena Naana Fodua Boakye Yiadom, and Benjamin Antwi Boamah.

Kofi Anane Kyeremanteng is 39 years old and a Director of Rockshell International Limited, Alfred Adjei Dickson, 42 and the General Manager of Functions Risk Management and a Broker, Abena Naana Fodua Boakye Yiadom, 35 and an Insurance agent, and Benjamin Antwi Boamah, 35 and a former Marketing Manager of Serene Insurance Company.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and attempt to commit crime, to wit defrauding by false pretences.

The pleas of the accused persons are yet to be taken by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah.

The case was called yesterday, and adjourned to August 1, 2023, because some of the accused persons were not present.

The prosecution, lead by Chief Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang, withdrew and amended the charged sheet.

Details of the case, as presented by the prosecutor, are that the complainant is the Claims Manager of Serene Insurance Company Limited.

He said on September 14, 2022, a Mack concrete pump truck belonging to the company of Kofi was involved in accident at Amamprobi, near Akropong Akuapi in the Eastern Region.

A report was made to Akropong Akuapim Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for investigation on the same day.

Kofi informed Abena of the accident and requested that she prepared comprehensive insurance to cover the accident truck, which had Third Party Insurance at Enterprise Insurance Company. Abena also consulted Benjamin to facilitate the insurance of the said accident truck.

On October 14, 2022, Benjamin gave an insurance policy form to Abena on behalf of Kofi, and cash of GH¢67,000.00 was paid for the Comprehensive Policy.

Ten days later, Benjamin submitted the completed policy forms with attached photographs of the Mack concrete pumping vehicle in its original state to his former company.

He requested and collected an insurance claim form that the truck has been involved in accident.

Kofi and Abena gathered the necessary documents such as Ghana Police Service Accident Report and Police Extract of Occurrence from the Akropong Akuapim Police Station and Serene Certificate of Insurance and handed them over to Alfred who is an Insurance Broker.

Alfred changed all the dates on the documents of the accident from September 14, to October 24, 2022, and further falsified the Serene Insurance Company Limited (Comprehensive) policy number issued from October 14, 2022, and the expiry date, October 13, 2023, to October 14, 2021, as well as the expiry date to October 13, 2022.

After altering the documents, Alfred submitted them to Serene Insurance Company for processing to claim US$140,000 as cost of damage.

The management of Serene Insurance Company detected the falsification and reported it to the police for investigation.

During investigations Kofi, Alfred, Abena and Benjamin were arrested and further investigation disclosed that they planned over how to access the insurance claim.

After investigation, the accused persons were charged with the offences and put before the court.
