The Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly, in collaboration with National Democratic Congress executives from the Kumawu constituency has cut the sod for the rehabilitation of the Beroso Market.

The project is being funded through a combination of district assembly resources and the NDC Constituency development funds.

The ceremony, held at the market site, marks the start of a project aimed at upgrading the facility’s infrastructure and revitalizing commercial activity in the area.

Speaking at the event, Mr Akwasi Amankwah, the District Chief Executive for Sekyere Kumawu, said the refurbishment will “upgrade the market’s infrastructure, boost trade, create jobs and improve the overall economic environment for residents.”

He noted that the Assembly remained committed to delivering development initiatives that would uplift the community and serve as a catalyst for growth across the district.

According to him, the NDC Constituency Executives echoed the sentiment, emphasising that the revamped market would be a hub of economic activity and a source of pride for Kumawu.

He noted that the project was a testament to what can be achieved when political leaders, local government and the community work together.

He said the rehabilitation works would include the reconstruction of stalls, improvement of drainage and sanitation facilities, installation of modern lighting and the provision of secure storage spaces for traders.

He emphasised that once completed, the market would be expected to attract more buyers and sellers, thereby increasing revenue for local businesses and generating employment opportunities for youth.

The sod‑cutting ceremony was attended by traditional leaders, market women, and residents, all of whom expressed optimism about the positive impact the upgraded Beroso market would have on the local economy.
