Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi have taken to social media to celebrate Kofi Kinaata and Lasmid for winning awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
During the 24th edition of VGMA at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra, Kofi Kinaata was awarded for his exceptional work in 2022 in the highlife genre. This won him the ‘Highlife Artiste of the year.
The ‘Things fall apart’ hitmaker won the award with his ‘Have Mercy’ single which was released in 2022.
Lasmid, the ‘Friday Night’ crooner also won the ‘Hiplife Song of the year’ and ‘Best New Artiste of the year’ awards. In his acceptance remarks, Lasmid dedicated the awards to Kwesimintsim, a suburb of Takoradi.
Taking to social media, residents of Takoradi are celebrating the two for bringing honour to the Twin City. The CEO of Western Music Awards, Emmanuel Ampaabeng expressed; “Heartiest congratulations Kofi Kinaata and Lasmid, you deserve every bit of it. Your hard work paid off finally. We are so proud of you at least it’s a win for the region. We wish you all the very best for the future.”
Aya Ramzy B, an Artiste from Sekondi-Takoradi who was nominated in the Unsung category in this year’s VGMA also updated; “New Artiste of the year Lasmid, Congratulations. I’m proud of you and Congratulations Best Highlife Artiste of the year – Kofi Kinaata.”
