Black Sherif talks about childhood inspiration

The reigning Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the year, Black Sherif has talked about his childhood inspiration which influences his choice of songs.

In his acceptance speech following winning the ‘Artiste of the year’ award, Black Sherif sang Adani Best’s ‘George’ song before making any remarks.

After singing a famous line of the track, he announced the release of an upcoming album and dedicated the win to his parents, family and to the whole of Konongo Zongo.

The lyrics of Adani Best’s Ga song is translated; “What you said have come to pass, George.”

Many wondered why he sang another Artiste’s song rather than his own song. Speaking on TV3, Black Sherif mentioned that, Adani Best is one of his childhood inspirations since he heard his parents play his songs at home.

My mother loves Adani Best and Alpha Blondy songs. “So, she has been playing his (Adani Best) songs at home. That is why I know his songs and I love his songs too” Black Sherif said.

In a phone-in on the programme, Adani Best expressed gratitude to Black Sherif for the honour done him. He mentioned that, he was in the studio recording songs for his album during the time Black Sherif sang his song on the VGMA stage.

The two have expressed interest in working on a song.

Full name, Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, the 21-year-old won the Artiste of the year award over strong competition from Piesie Esther on Saturday 6th May, 2023 at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra.
