A fisherman at Ibaka, Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom State has been reported missing following an attack by sea pirates at the waterways on Friday, November 19, 2021.
There has been a persistent attack on fishermen in coastal communities of Akwa Ibom State, compelling indigenes to stage a protest a month ago.
Although the Nigeria Navy and other security agencies have promised to tackle the menace, it has persisted.
It was gathered that one of the fishermen who jumped into the sea to escape the sea pirates’ bullets is yet to be found, following the latest attack on Friday,
In an audio clip sent to our correspondent in Uyo on Monday by a lawyer to some of the fishermen in Ibaka, Ogunbiyi Oluwajuwon, the hoodlums after the attack carted away four outboard engines from the fishermen
He said, “There was another attack on Friday night on the sea. It happened just about ten minutes away from Ibaka. They attacked four separate boats and carted away four outboard engines at gunpoint. One fisherman jumped into the water during the attack and he is yet to be found”
Oluwajuwon lamented that despite the series of attacks on the fishermen nothing is being done to secure them at high sea, and called on both the Akwa Ibom state government and the federal government to find a lasting solution to the crisis”
