Sammi Awuku takes over Akuapem North Constituency

Former National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Campaign Manager for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the just-ended presidential primary, Mr Sammi Awuku, has crossed one of the biggest hurdles in his journey to parliament in 2025.

At the close of nominations on November 30, 2023 he was the sole candidate to have filed, and in accordance with the party’s constitution, was acclaimed at an extraordinary delegates conference held at the weekend.

Mr Awuku, who is the current Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), had earlier disclosed that the nod gives him the opportunity to contribute towards the growth and development of the area.

“It will be an honour to represent the interests, concerns and aspirations of the constituents”, he said, to cheering supporters of the party in the area.

In his acceptance speech, he called for unity among the ranks and used the opportunity to extend an olive branch to all aggrieved supporters of the party and supporters of the sitting MP to come home and help drive development for the constituency.

The PC addressing the supporters

“It has been a long journey, over ten to eleven years, together with a few friends, we started this. Wonderful people, they rallied behind me. We engaged the party people and they kept saying that I would be given the opportunity when the time comes. They have done an acclamation, and I don’t take this for granted. On any day, whether rain or shine, I will stand by them and we will develop the constituency together.

“We will ensure development in the areas of road, health, potable water and electricity. All those who left should come home, let’s work together, I will be a candidate for all the people and I want to be an MP when elected for all. This is a call to service,” he assured the supporters.

He also thanked the Chiefs and people of the area for supporting his political journey and promised never to let them down as he takes up the challenge of creating a positive change and shaping the future of the constituency.

“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the chiefs and people of Akuapem North, who have supported me throughout this journey. Your unwavering support and encouragement means the world to me. Together, we can create positive change and shape the future of our constituency.”
