Chief Justice Baffoe Bonnie has said his recent comments on the performance of some State-owned enterprises (SOEs) were made in good faith and were not intended to undermine the independence of the Judiciary.
The clarification was contained in a press release issued on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 8:02 p.m. and signed by the Judicial Secretary, Mr. Musah Ahmed.
The two-paragraph statement, titled “Chief Justice’s Visit to Some State Institutions and Matters Arising,” said the Chief Justice had taken note of the public reaction to comments he made during his recent engagements with some state institutions.
According to the statement, although the Chief Justice’s remarks had generated mixed reactions from the public, his intention was not to serve any purpose that could be considered inimical to judicial independence.
“The observations were made in good faith and were not intended to serve a purpose inimical to judicial independence,” the statement said.
It added that the Chief Justice remained committed to protecting the integrity and independence of the Judiciary while promoting justice and equality before the law.
The clarification comes amid public discussion over remarks attributed to the Chief Justice regarding the performance and operations of some State-owned enterprises following his recent visits to state institutions.
The Judiciary’s statement sought to put the comments in context and reassure the public of the Chief Justice’s commitment to the constitutional principles underpinning the administration of justice.
“The Chief Justice remains committed to upholding the integrity and independence of the judiciary and the promotion of justice and equality before the law,” the statement added.
