Carlos Queiroz has parted ways with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by mutual agreement, bringing his tenure as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, to an end.

The Portuguese coach and the GFA agreed to terminate the Service Agreement governing his role following discussions which, according to Queiroz, were held in a spirit of mutual respect.

In a statement published by the GFA Communications, Queiroz said the decision was difficult but both parties concluded that ending their professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances.

He said the decision was taken with the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football in mind.

“This was not an easy decision, but both parties agreed that, under the present circumstances, ending our professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action, with the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football above everything else,” he said.

Queiroz, who was appointed to lead the Black Stars, said he had entered the job with the objective of helping to build a stronger future for the national team and contributing to the development of Ghanaian football talent.

However, he acknowledged that some of the conditions he considered necessary for the work were not fully established.

“I came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and support the development of the country’s talent. Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he said.

The coach expressed gratitude to the GFA, particularly its president, for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to lead the four-time African champions.

He also thanked his technical team and other individuals who supported the Black Stars, particularly during preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz reserved special praise for the players, urging Ghanaians to continue supporting them despite his departure.

“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he said.

According to him, the current generation of Black Stars players possesses the talent and potential to achieve significant success if provided with unity, support and the right environment.

“The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana,” he added.

Queiroz also expressed appreciation to Ghanaians and Black Stars supporters for their passion, support and warmth during his time in charge.

He said he would continue to hold Ghana in high regard.

“I leave with respect, gratitude and pride,” he said.

The coach ended his message by stressing his commitment to Ghana and its football.

“Ghana comes first. The Black Stars come first. Ghanaian football comes first,” he said.

He signed off his message with the words: “Thank you, Ghana. To the Future. CQ.”
