The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the body responsible for regulating and approving tariffs for electricity and water utilities in Ghana to ensure fairness to both consumers and service providers, has announced a reduction in electricity and water tariffs.
The move is aimed at easing cost of services and burden on consumers. A statement posted on the Commission’s official Facebook page said electricity tariffs would be reduced by an average of 4.81 per cent, while water tariffs would decrease by 3.06 per cent.
According to the Commission, the adjustment forms part of its periodic tariff review process to reflect changes in key economic and operational factors affecting utility service providers.
The PURC also announced the introduction of a commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging tariff, the first of its kind in the country.
The Commission explained that the new tariff category is intended to support Ghana’s transition to green energy and promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
“The Commission, for the first time, has introduced a commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging tariff to promote green energy transition,” the statement said.
