Proactive Ghana marks World Mental Health Day

In marking this year’s World Mental Health Day, Proactive Ghana, a non-refundable, has urged the public to embrace the reality of the impact of mental health on individuals, and society as a whole.

In a news release signed by the Executive Director of Proactive Ghana, Theophilus Dzimega Esq, he indicated that the earlier the public embrace the effects of mental health and its associated challenges the better.

It said acceptance of mental health reality was one step to fight stigmatisation and other social effects, as well as bridge the gap between the silence of isolation and care.

“We are working with individuals and partners to provide education, psychological support and other forms of assistance in addressing the mental health needs of people in our society,” it said.

The release further added that Proactive Ghana was grateful to all those who provide invaluable services in support of mental health wellbeing in Ghana.

It acknowledged the work of all mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychoanalysts, psychiatric nurses, social workers and professional counsellors.

“Proactive Ghana is also grateful to our Parliament of Ghana for repealing the law on suicide. Finally, the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and all other affiliated institutions, both public and private also deserve our commendation and appreciation,” it added.
