PPP execs & members defect to NDC

Some members of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) from the Bono and Ahafo regions have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Today, the regional Chairman, the regional executives, constituency executives and some party members do declare our defection from the People’s Progressive Party (P.P.P) and declare our support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and we pledge to abide by all the rules and regulations of the NDC in our struggle to build a better and prosperous Ghana so help us God.

“The NPP will even agree with itself that this level of deterioration and rot has been unprecedented. Corruption, nepotism, insensitive leadership, clueless economic management, excessive borrowing and wanton wastage of limited state resources and pilferage of state cash has been the hallmark of this current administration,” Lucious Sanfaa, Bono Regional Chairman of the PPP, on behalf of the defectors, said in Sunyani at a programme to officially announce their defection.

The ceremony was witnessed by the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Bono Regional NDC Chairman, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, and several other executives and high-ranking members of the party.

Mr. Lucious Sanfaa said the decision to defect was also because of the “unbearable economic challenges, and democratisation of corruption among New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees, the oppression and suppression of free speech.”

He added that the various sectors of the country’s economy had witnessed some retrogression, “including the heightened educational crisis, poor healthcare system and non-functional National Health Insurance Policy, collapsed agriculture which has led to the shortage of food and for that matter high food prices.”

Mr. Lucious Sanfaa explained that their defection to the NDC would give meaning to the sacrifices of the forefathers of the country, adding that “Ghana would not be left to rot in the hands of a few self-seeking individuals who only came to steal, kill and destroy.”

“Our dream is to take over the political mantle from the NPP by breaking the chains of political and state captivity to free the masses.

“Owing to the foregoing, the people of the Progressive People Party in Bono region have decided to partner with the biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress to achieve this mission.

“The ideological disposition of the party and its expression of same in deeds is an inspiration to the young generation of politically conscious youth and for that matter holds the torch for progressive action moving forward.

“The NDC have shown great levels of selflessness, respect for human dignity, social, cultural and ethnic inclusion, solidarity and sensitivity to the plights of the vulnerable,” Mr. Lucious Sanfaa further said.

Mr. Asiedu-Nketia welcomed the defectors into the NDC and encouraged them to work hard to ensure a massive victory in the 2024 General Elections.
