Ghana Premier League debutants Port City secured a comfortable win against Bibiani Gold Stars when they travelled to Dun’s Park on Sunday.
The visitors made light work of the Miners, scoring twice in the first half to claim all three points.
Gideon Waja’s defence-splitting pass found Emmanuel Intori, who opened the scoring with a beautiful chip over goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi just eight minutes into the game.
Robert Gyamfi then slotted home with a cool finish on 20 minutes after connecting well with Owusu Ansah’s cross.
Intori could have grabbed his second before half-time after receiving a long pass from defence, controlling the ball and surging into the penalty box, but he skied his effort over the bar.
After the break, Gold Stars showed signs of crawling back into the game, but Christopher Ennin’s side held firm to claim all three points, a result that moves Port City into third place in the league standings.
Gold Stars head coach Petros Koukouras will be disappointed that his team failed to build on their impressive win against Swedru All Blacks last weekend.
The Miners struggled to replicate the fight they showed in Swedru as they came up against a determined Port City side.
Bibiani Gold Stars have dropped into the bottom three in the league standings and will be desperate to bounce back when they travel to Vision FC in their next match.
Port City, meanwhile, will aim to maintain their momentum when they travel to defending champions Medeama SC for their outstanding fixture in midweek.
