The Ghana Police Service has disowned a flyer circulating on social media which claims that motorists and motorcyclists are prohibited by law from using AirPods, earphones and other audio devices while driving or riding.
According to the Police, the flyer did not originate from the Service and had neither been issued nor authorised by it.
In a statement, the Service said its Cybercrime Unit had commenced efforts to trace the persons behind the publication.
The Police, however, cautioned road users against activities or devices that could distract them or compromise their attention, hearing, control of their vehicles or awareness of surrounding traffic.
It urged motorists and riders to avoid distractions and exercise maximum care while using the roads, stressing that road safety required the full attention of all road users.
The Service further urged motorists, motorcyclists and other road users to familiarise themselves with and comply fully with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519) and other applicable road traffic laws.
It said adherence to the regulations was essential to reducing road crashes and protecting lives.
The Police advised the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information on road traffic regulations and other public safety matters.
The Service said it remained committed to enforcing road traffic laws fairly and professionally while working with relevant stakeholders to promote safety on the country’s roads.
