Police Chase Freed Murder Suspect … Over gruesome killing of a nurse in Tamale

A suspect who was arrested by the police in connection with the gruesome killing of a Policewoman in Tamale, Corporal Agatha Nana Nabin, but was later freed due to lack of sufficient evidence advice from the Attorney General, is in the news again.

Issahaku Yacubu, aka Kanbon Naa, who is reportedly on the run, is being pursued by the police for allegedly taking part in a factional clash in the Tamale suburb of Gumbihini, which led to the killing of a 22-year old nurse, Abubakari Mansura, in November 2022.

Information obtained from the capital, corroborated by the Regional Police Command sources and the Tamale District Court, indicated that Kanbon Naa, in police’s attempt to arrest him in connection with the death of the nurse, managed to escape from the Tamale Central Hospital, where he was receiving medical attention.

On November 6, 2022 at about 20:00 hours, the Regional Police Command received a distress call to the effect that sporadic gunshots were heard in some areas around Moshie Zongo and Water Works, Gumbihini South, within Tamale.

Police patrols were dispatched to the area and upon arrival found out that the incident took place at three different locations.

The first incident occurred at Moshie Zongo, where a gang numbering about eight, armed with AK47 Assault Rifle, G3 Rifle and pistols attacked and fired indiscriminately into a house.

The second scene was at Gumbihini, about a kilometer from the first scene.

There, a 29-year old woman,Hubaida Hamza, was in her room but sustained gunshot wounds in the thigh and was bleeding profusely.

Police retrieved 12 spent shells of AK 47, 5 spent shells of G3, 9 spent shells of pistol, 3 live AK47 ammunition from both scenes.

On November 10, while Police investigation was ongoing, there was another shooting incident at Gumbihini close, to where the woman sustained injuries in the thigh.

This time, a 22-year old nurse, Abubakari Mansura, who visited her boyfriend, was killed during the sporadic shooting.

It was revealed that the shooting was as a result of a factional clash between Kanbon Naa and his group and another faction led by Issahaku Anas, aka Kanzola.

Police investigation led to the arrest of IssahakuAnas, aka Kanzolai, Yacubu Fatao, Latif Abdul Adam, aka Popo and another, KanbonNaa, who is on the run.

It was said that since the police were already in court with KanbonNaa, where he had been charged with unlawfully possession of military accoutrements, but he always avoided appearing in court with claims of ill-health, the police decided to pick him from the said hospital this time round.

While the police were communicating with the nurses as to he being handcuffed to the bed, he overheard them and quickly removed the drip on his arm and escaped.

The Tamale District Court, upon application from the police, granted a warrant for his arrest.
