The Ghana Police Service, through a statement posted on its official Facebook page, has announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent highway and street robberies within the Bolgatanga municipality and along the Bolgatanga-Walewale highway.
The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe, popularly known as “Mosbee,” and Jacob Akugri, alias “Weezy,” were arrested in Kumasi on May 9, 2026 by operatives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters Operations Unit.
According to the police statement, the arrest followed weeks of intelligence-led operations and surveillance conducted in Bolgatanga and Walewale in the Upper East and North East Regions.
Preliminary investigations, the statement noted, suggest that the two suspects were members of a robbery syndicate allegedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols and operating across parts of northern Ghana.
The police indicated that the gang is suspected to have carried out several robberies on highways and within communities, targeting victims for cash, mobile phones and motorbikes.
Some of the robbery incidents, the police added, reportedly resulted in deaths.
The suspects are said to have admitted during interrogation to participating in a number of the robbery attacks.
Police further disclosed that the two suspects identified the alleged leader of the gang only as Issaka, while another accomplice known as Arafat also remains on the run.
Investigators are currently pursuing leads to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate, including individuals suspected to be supplying weapons to the gang.
The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to recover stolen items and identify additional accomplices connected to the criminal activities.
