Parents and Guardians have welcomed the harmonised prospectus that has been introduced this academic year by the Ministry of Education, headed by Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum.
To help avoid the frustration parents go through in buying different school items for their wards in the various Senior High Schools, the Ministry of Education, through the Ghana Education Service (GES), has introduced an initiative called the National Prospectus for Senior High and Technical Schools in the country.
The purpose of this innovation is to provide a standardised prospectus for all prospective first-year students, eliminating any opacity regarding their requirements for admission into the various Senior High/Technical institutions.
Under this new system, all schools are expected to adhere to the national prospectus without imposing any additional items beyond what has been officially prescribed.
Some of the Parents, who spoke in an interview with The Chronicle in Kumasi, said the new system has helped to eliminate certain items they would have been asked to buy by heads of these schools.
According to them, though the Free Senior High School policy has really helped them, some of the items being demanded by the schools were very worrisome.
Apart from this, they also have to go to the schools before obtaining the prospectus. Fortunately for them, all these hassles have been eliminated, with the introduction of the harmonised prospectus.
They were hopeful that the new policy would not be a nine day wonder, but would be vigorously pursued in subsequent years.
