The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, has assured artisanal fishermen that they would be exempted from the annual close fishing season instituted by the Ministry.

This, however, is contingent upon their strict adherence to best fishing practices, including observing traditional non-fishing days and avoiding harmful fishing methods.
The exemption of artisanal fishermen from the closed fishing season is a significant policy decision, according to the Fisheries Minister.

Acknowledging the importance of small-scale fishing to the livelihoods of coastal communities, Minister Emelia Arthur stated that by promoting responsible fishing practices and supporting the needs of artisanal fishermen, the John Mahama administration aimed to ensure the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s fisheries resources.

During her visit to the Ngyeresia fishing community, Emelia Arthur, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Shama emphasised the importance of responsible fishing practices to ensure the sustainability of Ghana’s fisheries resources.
She urged the fishermen to cooperate with the Fisheries Commission’s taskforce, made up of personnel drawn from the Ghana Navy and the Marine Police Section of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to begin patrolling the seas with intent to enforcing compliance of fishing regulations.

On premix fuel, Emelia Arthur said it was an essential component of fishing and would be regularly supplied once the landing beach committees had been formed.
The committee’s membership would include representatives from various stakeholders, including fishermen, canoe owners, and the fisheries Ministry.

The Minister also announced the abolition of the Regional, District and zonal premix coordinators.
Going forward, sector Minister Emelia Arthur announced plans to provide high-quality fishing gears to artisanal fishermen once the economy stabilises to be paid on high purchase basis.

In a related development, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Paramount chief of Essikado Traditional area, has urged the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Madam Emelia Arthur, to foster peace and unity within the fishing industry.
He expressed concern about the apparent disunity and emphasised the importance of unity for the industry’s development.

Nana Nketsia made these comments during a courtesy call on him by Madam Emelia Arthur and some officials of the ministry at his Essikado residence.
He encouraged Madam Emelia Arthur to excel in her role, saying “As a daughter of Essikado, you don’t dare to fail.”

He reminded her to prioritise serving Ghana and sought divine guidance for her tenure.
Present at the meeting were Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, Member of Parliament for Essikado Ketan Constituency and some NDC constituency executives.

Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, says his region is the right investment destination in the country and that they are ready for business.

Consequently, he has called on both domestic and external investors to come and invest in the region.

“We have to look out for others who are also concerned about investment and development, so we work together”, the Minister said.
Joseph Nelson made the declaration during an engagement with Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado Ketan, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah on Monday.
Explaining why private sector investment was required in driving the development agenda of the region, he said “you know that the state of the economy is such that, you cannot rely solely on central government for everything”
For him as the Regional Minister, the development of the region with investment as the driving force remains his priority.

“The commitment of development of this region is top on the agenda, because the challenges are not lost on me.”
Explaining more about his knowledge about the region and its structures, Joseph Nelson said he was aware of the dynamics.

“The truth of the matter is that I have come into this office as a three term Regional Secretary and so the challenges and development of this region are not lost on me.”
The Regional Minister also promised to renovate the dilapidated structures at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC).

On her part, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah informed the Minister of her commitment to collaborate effectively with him to push the development agenda of Essikado Ketan.
As the Constituency hosting WRCC, she reiterated her desire to attract investors to come and invest in the region with emphasis on her constituency, which currently lags behind when it comes to development and employment.

She also promised to collaborate with the Minister to address the infrastructure gap in the Constituency.

Roberta Flack of ‘Killing Me Softly’ fame dies at 88

US singer Roberta Flack

Roberta Flack, the Grammy-winning singer behind the classic “Killing Me Softly With His Song” and one of the most recognizable voices of the 1970s, died Monday at age 88.

Flack’s publicist announced her death without citing a cause.

The influential pop and R&B star in recent years had lost her ability to sing because of ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, which she was diagnosed with in 2022.

“She died peacefully surrounded by her family,” the statement from the publicist said.

The classically trained musician with a tender voice produced a number of early classics of rhythm and blues that she frequently described as “scientific soul,” timeless works that blended meticulous practice with impeccable taste.

Her work was key to the “quiet storm” radio form of smooth, sensuous, slow jams that popularized R&B and influenced its later aesthetics in the 1980s and 1990s.

Born Roberta Cleopatra Flack in Black Mountain, North Carolina on February 10, 1937, the artist was raised in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington DC.

Her large, musical family had a penchant for gospel, and she took up the piano in her youth, which ultimately earned her a music scholarship to Washington’s Howard University at the tender age of 15.

She told Forbes in 2021 that her father “found an old, smelly piano in a junkyard and restored it for me and painted it green.

“This was my first piano and was the instrument in which I found my expression and inspiration as a young person.”

Ghanaians criticise Prince David Osei over sarcastic Mahama comment

0
Prince David Osei

Prince David Osei has drawn harsh criticisms after he posted a controversial remark about President John Mahama’s administration.

The actor in his post on February 23 on X sarcastically asked Ghanaians whether they were enjoying Mahama’s leadership, implying that the nation now had “milk and honey,” 24/7 electricity and prosperous businesses as they anticipated.

“Ghana How Far? Are you enjoying the Mahama administration?? I hear they are giving everyone milk and honey… 24/7 electricity and market women making outrageous sales?? Everybody go be okay kraa,” he tweeted.

His comment, which generated an uproar from a section of Ghanaians, did not augur well with many who accused him of hypocrisy and questioned him about the achievements of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration considering his strong support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Following the backlash, Prince David Osei clarified in a post that his remarks were merely for humor and should not be taken serious.

“Just cracking a joke common guys everything shouldn’t be uptight I dey with you,” he said.

Ghana’s movie industry is not dead but in coma –Mikki Osei Berko

0
Mikki Osei Berko

Celebrated Actor, Mikki Osei Berko, popularly called Dada Boat believes that Ghana’s movie industry is not dead as most people perceive.

In an interview on Joy Prime, he asserted that the industry is still alive but is struggling to survive and sustain its vibrancy.

“It’s not dead; it’s in a coma and needs medication,” he said sarcastically.

Explaining what medications it requires to remedy the situation, he mentioned that effective policies and training are the best solutions.

According to him, the government needs to get involved and help solve the challenges, as the industry is a key part of the country’s economic growth.

“Government should get involved because it’s an important part of the economy we cannot underestimate. When policy comes into being, it means that training and the others follow.”

This guides industry players in realising the standards required, and there are opportunities available.

Dada Boat also believes one of the major hindrances to the industry’s progression is the airing of foreign content on the majority of Ghanaian media channels, which he says must be stopped.

“If it’s not stopped, one day I’ll have a one-man demonstration to help stop it because it’s killing our industry and economy,” he said on Friday, February 21, 2025.

He suggested that television stations should be forced with legislative instrument (L.I) to show local content frequently.

Real Sociedad face Real Madrid in Copa del Rey semis clash

Real Madrid will try to establish a first-leg lead when they travel to Reale Arena for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Real Sociedad. The hosts are dreaming of becoming four-time Copa del Rey winners, while Los Blancos are looking to win the competition for the 21st time in their history.

Real Sociedad pulled off the most recent of their three Copa del Rey triumphs in 2019-20 when they got the better of Basque rivals Athletic Club 1-0.

La Real are now just two games away from sealing their place in April’s final after successfully negotiating their way through five ties to set up their first Copa del Rey meeting with Real Madrid since February 2020.

The hosts will be aware that they are the underdogs for the semi-final clash, but their recent home form will give them hope of establishing a first-leg lead.

After taking two points from three league matches, Real Madrid got their La Liga title bid back on track with a 2-0 victory in Sunday’s home clash against Girona.

Real Madrid will now turn their focus to their Copa del Rey bid, with Los Blancos looking to win the competition for the second time in three seasons after beating Osasuna in the 2022-23 final to clinch the Copa del Rey for the 20th time in their history.

Arsenal tackle high-flying Nottingham Forest

After suffering potentially the biggest blow yet to their hopes of Premier League glory, Arsenal bid to keep their increasingly thin chances alive when they tackle high-flying Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Wednesday.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta

The Gunners’ January transfer gamble backfired again in Saturday’s 1-0 derby loss to West Ham United, but their hosts also succumbed to defeat in gameweek 26, coming out on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline at Newcastle United.

Mikel Merino‘s hero arc off the bench at Leicester City proved to be a false dawn for Mikel Arteta and co, as with the emergency striker starting from the first whistle on Saturday, Arsenal were repelled time and time again by a sturdy West Ham side and were punished to the maximum for their toothlessness.

Arsenal may very well have lost the Premier League title on the same weekend that they lost their unbeaten home record for the top-flight season.

If there is any crumb of comfort for Arsenal to take heading into the weekend, it is the fact that their side have strung together an eight-game unbeaten run away from home in the Premier League – winning four of their last five.

The Gunners are statistically still the best defence in the league and might not have too much trouble keeping their hosts at bay if Santo does indeed go rearguard-heavy, but their ravaged attack should come up short once again, and a frustrating 0-0 could all but spell the end of their title charge.

Forest’s defensive catastrophe at Newcastle should have little bearing on Wednesday’s game, given the fact that Santo’s men are back at their City Ground fortress and are facing an Arsenal side with a far less destructive attack if the weekend is anything to go by.

Liverpool to pass challenging test at home to Newcastle United

Having now arguably reached the status of Premier League champions-elect, Liverpool hope to pass another challenging test of their title credentials at home to Newcastle United on Wednesday night, in a precursor to next month’s EFL Cup final.

The Reds’ lead at the summit stretched into the double figures when they overcame Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday, a couple of hours after the Magpies’ absorbing 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest.

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

A handful of times Arsenal have failed to capitalise on Liverpool dropping crucial points in the Premier League title race, but after the injury-riddled Gunners were slain by West Ham United on Saturday, Arne Slot‘s relentless Reds did not let such a golden opportunity pass them by.

While the Reds remain unbeaten on the road in the 2024-25 Premier League season, Slot’s crop have quickly rebuilt the Anfield walls since September’s shock loss to Nottingham Forest, avoiding defeat in each of their last 17 home contests and scoring at least two goals in all of them.

In customary fashion, Slot and his Liverpool troops are staying as grounded as possible while the title race is still mathematically alive, and the league leaders will certainly take nothing for granted against a Newcastle side whose marksman they may be envious of.

Clashes between Liverpool and Newcastle almost always promise a glut of goals, and Wednesday’s affair should be no different, especially with the Magpies looking increasingly brittle at the back.

Tottenham Hotspur welcome crest-fallen Manchester City

A slice of English football history is on the line for Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening, when Ange Postecoglou‘s men host Premier League champions Manchester City in the pick of the midweek fixtures.

Erling Haaland, Manchester City

Having already slain the Citizens twice while defeating Manchester United three times in 2024-25, Spurs could become the first team to ever beat both Manchester giants on three occasions in a single campaign.

A mediocre standing is still unacceptable for a club of Spurs’ stature, as Postecoglou himself has been upfront about, but the North London giants have unsurprisingly quashed any fleeting talk of a relegation dogfight since recovering a plethora of fundamental players from injury.

Pep Guardiola‘s men failed in their mission to halt Liverpool’s seemingly unstoppable surge to Premier League glory. Nevertheless, Guardiola’s crop are just about clinging onto the final top-four slot in the Premier League table.

However, even a City-less Haaland had their moments against Liverpool, and with all due respect to Spurs’ centre-backs, they are no Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate, so Guardiola’s men can bite back just as hard to claim a point.

Tottenham have lit the blue touch paper in the final third once more and will be working with an additional day’s rest than the champions, who should not head home without having conceded a couple of goals on the night.

Health Benefits of Prekese: Nature’s Gift to Wellness

0

Prekese, or Tetrapleura tetraptera, is a fruit native to West Africa, often celebrated in traditional medicine. Prekese contains various vitamins, including vitamin C, vitamin A, and several B vitamins like niacin (B3), riboflavin (B2), and thiamine (B1). Vitamin C is an antioxidant that supports the immune system and promotes healthy skin.

The tree has many uses. Its sweet fragrance is valued, and its fruit is used to spice dishes because of its aroma.

Nutritional Benefits of Prekese

  • Vitamins and MineralsPrekese is reported to be rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K, and minerals like iron, calcium, and potassium. These nutrients are essential for various bodily functions, including immune support, wound healing, and maintaining bone health. However, specific quantities of these nutrients in prekese should be further researched.
  • Antioxidants: It contains flavonoids and phenolic compounds, known antioxidants. Antioxidants play a role in combating oxidative stress, which contributes to chronic disease development.

Traditional Uses in Herbal Medicine

  • Digestive Aid: Traditionally used to soothe digestive discomfort, although scientific studies to substantiate these claims are limited.
  • Anti-Inflammatory and Pain ReliefPrekese has been used in African folk medicine for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, but further scientific evidence is needed to confirm these effects.

Scientifically Reviewed Health Benefits

  • Managing Diabetes: Some animal studies suggest that prekese may help regulate blood sugar levels, potentially beneficial for diabetes management. However, more comprehensive research is needed to establish this benefit in humans.
  • Blood Pressure ControlPrekese was found to aid blood vessel relaxation in animal models, which could be beneficial for blood pressure management. This claim, however, requires more robust scientific validation in humans.
  • Cholesterol Management: Again, limited research in animal models indicates that prekese might influence cholesterol levels, but this has not been translated to human subjects.

Skin and Digestive Health

  • Skin Health: The antioxidants in prekese could potentially support skin health, but direct evidence linking prekese to improved skin conditions is scarce.
  • Digestive Health: While traditionally used for digestive relief, scientific backing for these claims is insufficient.

Immune System Support

  • Vitamin C Content: Prekese’s vitamin C might bolster the immune system, a claim that aligns with the general understanding of vitamin C’s role in immunity.

Safety and Precautions

  • Allergies and Dosage: Potential allergies to prekese exist, and the safe dosage has not been established scientifically. Caution is advised.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Due to the lack of research, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult healthcare professionals before consuming prekese.

Culinary Uses

  • Culinary DelightPrekese is used as a flavor enhancer in West African cuisine, contributing a unique taste to dishes, like Goat meat stew, Banga, Pepper and Palm nut soups and more.

Conclusion

Prekese, or Tetrapleura tetraptera, embodies a fascinating blend of traditional African medicine and emerging scientific evidence. While it has been revered in various cultures for its medicinal properties, modern research has begun to uncover the scientific basis for some of these claims.

However, it is crucial to approach the use of prekese with an understanding that not all traditional claims have been substantiated by scientific research to date. Ongoing studies continue to explore its potential, promising to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and scientific validation. This blog, therefore, serves as a testament to the evolving understanding of prekese’s health benefits, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based practice in health and wellness.

Feature: The Tale of Two Villains: A Traitor and a Murderer. A Rebuttal to Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia (2) – The Murderer

0
Feature

To paint the UP Tradition as murderous, Asiedu-Nketiah, spoke about the NLM and alleged killings. The NLM is always falsely accused as a murderous party because of the instability in Kumasi and parts of Ashanti region when the Akans natives of that region demanded a federal form of governance (mate meho) to a centralised system.

The NLM was founded by Asantehene’s chief linguist, Nana Baffour Akoto and was largely joined by people who defected from the CPP. Political gurus, like Victor Owusu. R.R. Amponsah and Joe Appiah, who were staunch CPP members in Ashanti region which at that time comprised today’s Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono and Bono East regions, defected to join the NLM. So, if the NLM is a murderous party it clearly showed where the members came from, the CPP. Why did the Ashanti CPP defect from the party?

The entire region was not satisfied with the following: 1) Nkrumah’sinterference in chieftaincy by making it mandatory that only he could enstool/enskin or remove a chief from the stool or skin. The chiefs in the region, stood up against this.2). Nkrumah’s imposition of parliamentary candidates on constituencies, which the youth of the party who stood up against this were suspended or dismissed.

3) Ashanti region which was the largest and most populous region in Ghana was allocated less constituencies. The people in the region were not happy about this, and4). Nkrumah, for not fulfilling his promise to increase producer price of cocoa when he gets elected. When he got elected, he rather drastically reduced the producer price and hedged it for four years. The cocoa farmers never forgave him.

Now, during that time Ashanti region was made up of today’s Ashanti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions. This means, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who was born in Seikwa in the Tain district, was born in the Ashanti region on December 24, 1956.

History indicated that the NLM was not a violent party and it was rather the CPP which started killings in our political history. In October 1955, in Kumasi, during a political banter between CPP and NLM youths, Twumasi Ankrah of the CPP, without any provocation, stabbed to death E.Y. Baffoe of the NLM. This was what sparked off the political unrest in the region. So, it was the CPP which started the political murders in our recent history.

Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, at his propaganda worse, lied that the NLM was the first ethnic/regional/religious based political party to be formed, which inspired others to do so.

These are the parties that united to form the United Party (UP) and when they were formed. 1). Togoland Congress (1951). 2). Anlo Youth Association (1952).3). Muslim Association Party (1953/1954), formed by Muslims who opposed the CPP. 4). Northern People’s Party (NPP) founded on April 11, 1954. 5). National Liberation Movement (NLM) founded September 19, 1954.6). Ga Shifimokpee (July 7, 1957), formed by Gas who were harassed by the CPP.

All these individual political parties united on October 13, 1957 to form the United Party (UP) from which the Progress Party, Popular Front Party and New Patriotic Party came to be formed. The NPP did not descend from the NLM.

All the noise was for the socialists to continuously paint Nkrumah as an angel and show how deeply they love him and at the same time to paint the UP members as demons. But history showed that it was the other way round.

First, Rawlings overthrew an Nkrumaist party in government, the PNP. Those who plotted this coup were Nkrumaists/socialists and never people from the UP Tradition. Second, the Nkrumaists defected in droves to join Rawlings and left Nkrumah’s traditional party, torn and shattered and it has never won even 2% of votes in any elections in this Fourth Republic.

Third, Rawlings boldly declared that all Nkrumah gave Ghana was a national flag and national anthem. Fourth, when the socialists appealed to Rawlings to remove the name Kotoka from our international airport, he rebuked them saying Kotoka was a hero who restored democracy in Ghana.

For thirty-six years of socialist rule, from 1972 to 2000 and 2009 to 2016, the socialists could not change the name of the airport. But now that Rawlings is dead, the NDC have the courage to change the name of the Kotoka International Airport.

This hypocritical love for Nkrumah is very suffocating.

Talking about murder and today Ghanaians are torn into confusion as to whether Jerry John Rawlings was a murderer or not.

I personally do not think this should be anything debatable in the country. But if it were an Akan/Asante who did what Rawlings did, the rest of nation will rise up in unison to condemn him as a murder.

What will Ghanaians call an Asante who instructs the military to hunt down a man of God in his church, tie him up and tie the other end of the rope to the back of a military vehicle and drag him on the roads of Kumasi until he died?

What will Ghanaians call an Asante who instructs his cabinet to abduct some judges and a retired army officer and when he was later informed that they were despatched (killed), he came to tell the nation two days later that the judges, one of whom was a nursing mother, and the retired army officer were abducted by anti-revolutionary forces?

What will Ghanaians call an Asante who ordered the arrest, detention and torture of Kyeremeh Djan and an Anlo Mawuli Gokah, who were forced into cannibalism, as each one’s flesh was sliced and the other forced to eat? And Mawuli’s only crime was that he had a corvette which Rawlings’ bosom friend a Lebanese called Riad Hozaifehwanted at all cost.

Please we must always confront whatever is wrong and condemn it as should be the case. We must not distort history in attempts to protect our own and blame the innocent.

Hon. Asiedu Nketiah wanted to justify the killing of the eight former heads of state and military officers by firing squad by saying they were put on trial and found guilty. Guilty of what? An Anlo gentleman, Joy Amedume was killed for borrowing money to build a house, was that an offence? If it is then, what about Rawlings who acquire mansions and estates beyond his means and earnings?

Hon Asiedu Nketiah went on to say, the first killing by shooting range was by the NLC which he added was an NPP “owned.” Ghanaians must know the difference here, Yeboah and Arthur were found guilty of killing Kotoka and were sentenced to death.Did any of the eight kill anyone? And for God’s sake, the NLC had nothing to do with the NLM or UP and certainly not the NPP. If the NLC was a UP agent, why was General Ankrah intending to form a political party and run for president?

In June 2020, barely five months to his death in mid-November, Rawlings a Catholic decided to confess his heinous sins, hoping to gain absolution and ride straight to Heaven with a clean soul.

Below are extracts from his confession:

“It might interest you to know that Afrifa was being provocative.”

“I COLLECTED THE LIST AND DID WHAT I HAD TO DO… we had to make some serious sacrifices …. And here you have innocent people as well who had to die to save hundreds.”

“They obviously hurt me a few times. Talk about the innocent ones as well. That was a painful one, that one has to live with. BECAUSE SOME OF THEM WERE GOOD PEOPLE AND DIDN’T DESERVE TO DIE. But that is the only way we could prevent the thing from getting out of hands.”

When asked by the host, “do you regret it.” Rawlings took a deep breath and then said, “NO COMMENTS, YET.” This could mean, he did not regret it?

These were Rawlings’ words when he was interviewed by Asaase FM’s Kweku Sakyi-Addo in late June 2020. He admitted that those shot to death at the Teshie Shooting range were innocent. So, what makes him? If he made these admissions in a court of competent jurisdiction, will he be conflicted of murder or manslaughter?

In his interviewed he lied about Afrifa embezzling funds given,to fight Acheampong’s Union government to edge out Paa Willie in the UNC and that warranted his murder. Afrifa contested for parliamentary seat while Paa Willie went for the presidential seat. So, how could Afrifa have urged him out?

In Ghana, today many families continue to mourn the murder of their love ones under the Rawlings administration. And two very innocent Anlo Ewes were killed under Rawlings’ instructions. One only borrowed money from the bank to build his house and the other only legally owned a car which RiadHozaifeh, coveted over. Two innocent Anlos, Rear Admiral Joy Amedume and Mawuli Goka were killed for doing nothing wrong. Yet, the Anlo Traditional Council, twice elevated Rawlings and made him chief.

After Rawlings made these admissions on air, the Council could not rebuke him, but today it is seeking to find out who called Zanetor, the daughter of a murderer. What is the Anlo Traditional Council saying to the Amedume and Gokah family?

To know what Rawlings was, Ghanaians need to encourage Kwaku Baako to come out with all he has on Jerry John Rawlings.

To this end, can our majority MPs in Parliament, discuss and carefully analyse what Rawlings said about his conduct on the issue of the killings of the eight senior army officers and heads of state in June 1979, in the interview with Kweku Sakyi-Addo, and tell Ghanaians, in one word, how they will describe Rawlings?

Whiles at this, can all socialists come out with documentary proof to show that J.B. Danquah is a traitor.

Hon. Daniel Dugan

Trial starts over $6 million gold toilet stolen in ‘audacious raid’

0
Gold toilet

It was not your typical smash-and-grab burglary and the booty was precious: a toilet worth more than its weight in gold.

The one-of-a-kind 18-carat gold toilet was swiped in under five minutes from Blenheim Palace, the sprawling English country mansion where British wartime leader Winston Churchill was born, in the predawn hours of September 14, 2019, a prosecutor told jurors Monday.

Attorney Julian Christopher said in his opening statement in Oxford Crown Court that it was an “audacious raid.” One of three men on trial in the case of the purloined potty was involved in stealing it and the other two helped to sell the spoils.

The toilet has never been recovered but is believed to have been cut up and sold.

The satirical work, titled “America” by Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan, poked fun at excessive wealth. It weighed just over 215 pounds (98 kilograms) and was insured for £4.8 million ($6 million). The value of the gold at the time was £2.8 million ($3.5 million).

The piece had previously been on display at The Guggenheim Museum in New York. The museum had offered the work to US President Donald Trump during his first term in office after he had asked to borrow a Van Gogh painting.
