Chelsea have continued their summer spending spree by welcoming a French youth international to Stamford Bridge.
With the first of two transfer windows this summer currently open, the Blues have wasted little time strengthening their squad as Enzo Maresca prepares for a return to Champions League football next season.
Amidst competition from multiple other Premier League sides Liam Delap joined the club in a £30million deal from Ipswich earlier this month.
The Manchester City academy graduate had impressed at Portman Road despite the Tractor Boys ultimately being relegated in their first season after returning to the top flight.
Maresca is said to have been personally influential in Delap opting for a move to Stamford Bridge, having contacted the 22-year-old to lay out his plans for the club.
Meanwhile highly-rated prospect Dario Essugo arrived from Sporting Lisbon last week, after spending last season on loan in LaLiga with Las Palmas.
Their latest signing, Mamadou Sarr, joined the club from Strasbourg on Monday on an eight-year deal.
The imposing 6ft 4in central defender has represented his country at multiple youth levels and was most recently part of France’s under-20 side.
However, despite welcoming a number of new arrivals to their ranks already, Chelsea continue to pursue a number of deals.
After both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen failed to instill confidence between the sticks in separate spells last season, the Blues are reportedly on the hunt for a new No 1 goalkeeper.
Chelsea have been repeatedly linked with a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, with the Frenchman reportedly intent on leaving the San Siro this summer.
The link comes after contract talks between the French international and his club stalled last season.
Champions League runners-up Inter Milan have appointed Parma boss Cristian Chivu as manager.
The 44-year-old, a former defender and youth team coach at Inter, leaves Parma after only 13 games in charge and replaces Simone Inzaghi.
The former Romania international was appointed by Parma in February – his first senior coaching role – winning three games as he steered Parma to Serie A safety.
Chivu, who has signed a contract until 2027, won three league titles during seven years as an Inter player.
Inter said, external he has “gone through experiences and challenges of enormous importance, events that have shaped him as a man and a professional, binding him inextricably to the black and blue colours”.
Chivu will take charge of Inter during the Club World Cup. They begin their campaign against Mexican side Monterrey on 17 June.
The Dane, 51, has emerged as a leading contender to replace Postecoglou.
Brentford would be entitled to compensation for Frank, with sources indicating it would cost Tottenham more than £10m to extricate him from his contract which runs until 2027.
That figure could rise depending on how many members of staff Frank decides to bring with him if he is named Spurs boss.
Postecoglou was sacked on Friday, 16 days after leading Tottenham to victory in the Europa League final, their first major trophy for 17 years.
However, it came towards the end of their worst Premier League season, as they finished 17th after losing 22 of their 38 matches.
Frank took over at Brentford in 2018 and guided them into the Premier League, winning the Championship play-off final at Wembley in 2021 and establishing them as a top-flight club on a small budget.
Brentford finished 10th in the 2024-25 Premier League season, seven places and 18 points above Spurs.
Accra Lions Chief Executive Officer Nana Obiri Yeboah has accepted the club’s fate following their relegation to the Division One after a tough 2024/25 season.
The exciting and youthful side suffered demotion four years after qualifying for the topflight league.
Last season, Accra Lions finished second, their best campaign during their time in the Ghana Premier League, unearthing some of the best talents in country.
However, on Sunday, a disappointing campaign came to an end with a 4-0 defeat to eventual champions Bibiani GoldStars.
“The table is a fair reflection of our quality. We have not performed well,” he told 3 Sports.
Accra Lions lost a lot of their first team players last season to the transfer market but Nana Obiri disagrees that it was a reason for their relegation.
But he maintains the recruitment policy of the club was not the best.
“Definitely, you are not going to get the like-for-like quality in terms of playing moving out and others coming in. It can turn out to be good when you have new players coming on board but this season we didn’t expect this. The recruitment didn’t go well in terms of players getting used to how we play,” he added.
Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says he is focused on rectifying the mistakes that led to his side’s 3-1 loss to Vision FC ahead of their crucial MTN FA Cup final clash on June 15.
Zito, who suffered his first defeat since taking charge of the Porcupine Warriors, admitted his side were second best but believes the loss could serve as a timely warning before they face Golden Kicks in the season’s final fixture.
The winner of the FA Cup will qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
“Vision FC played good and they deserve to win but the positive side of this game is; it is a wake up call to the finals,” Zito told reporters post-match.
“I saw it coming before the Medeama game. I am not too much worried because it will help me rearrange my boys well for the final.”
Kotoko had taken the lead through Emmanuel Antwi in the 38th minute, but goals from Edmond Asante and a brace by Frank Duku turned the tide in favour of Vision FC.
The result sees Kotoko end the Ghana Premier League season in fourth place.
Zito now shifts focus to preparing his squad for the FA Cup final as Kotoko aim to end the campaign with silverware.
Ghana international Tariq Lamptey will stay at Brighton and Hove Albion for the 2025/26 Premier League season after signing a one-year contract extension.
The Seagulls confirmed earlier on Monday, June 9, that the defender has agreed to a one-year deal at the club, keeping him there until June 2026.
Lamptey’s initial contract at the club was expected to expire at the end of this month, but the club and the player have now agreed to an extension.
The 24-year-old right-back made his Albion debut in 2020 after joining from Premier League rivals Chelsea, and has made 122 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.
“We’re delighted Tariq is staying with us. He wants to help the team achieve our targets and gives us great options in wide areas,” the club’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, said.
“We are looking forward to Tariq being part of our journey next season.”
Last season, Lamptey made 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and setting up two others.
Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Goldstars, Akwasi Adu
Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Goldstars, Akwasi Adu, has confirmed that head coach Frimpong Manso will remain in charge following the club’s historic Ghana Premier League title triumph.
Gold Stars sealed their maiden championship in style, hammering relegated Accra Lions 4-0 on the final day to finish the season with 63 points, 38 goals scored, and just 21 conceded across 34 matches.
Amid speculation about potential changes ahead of the club’s debut run in the CAF Champions League, Adu put the rumours to rest in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports by making it clear that Frimpong Manso and his technical team is staying put.
“Every team wants a coach who delivers results, and Frimpong Manso has done just that. Looking at the history of Bibiani Gold Stars, we only entered the top flight four years ago, his performance this season is unmatched. His results speak louder than those of his predecessors, and his job continuity is assured.”
Adu further emphasized the club’s commitment to stability, noting that the way Gold Stars handle both technical and managerial affairs leaves little room for concern.
Maybe he himself might want to take on a new challenge elsewhere but from the Bibiani Gold Stars side, we don’t believe in frequently changing our technical handlers. We’ve seen that when coaches stay longer, they tend to do better for their clubs.”
In a strongly-worded four-page press release dated June 9, 2025, the family of Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, has vowed to pursue all legal avenues to have his name removed from INTERPOL’s Red Notice list, following what they call an “unlawful and politically motivated” campaign by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Office Of The Special Prosecutor
The statement, titled “The Family of Ken Ofori-Atta”, challenges the legitimacy of the arrest warrant issued against Mr. Ofori-Atta on February 11, 2025, describing the process as irregular, lacking transparency, and “manipulated by the OSP.” The only stated charge against the former minister is “using public office for private profit,” yet no formal charges have been filed in court to date.
The family accuses the OSP of violating Mr. Ofori-Atta’s fundamental human rights through a public media declaration labeling him a fugitive, despite his willingness to cooperate with investigations while undergoing cancer treatment in the United States.
Allegations of Due Process Violations
According to the family, the OSP ignored Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical condition and a series of communications detailing his diagnosis and upcoming surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, scheduled for June 13, 2025. They allege the OSP deliberately dismissed offers by Mr. Ofori-Atta to participate in a video-recorded interview to give a cautioned statement—an option he proposed to avoid delaying investigations.
“The re-posting of the Wanted Poster was a premeditated theatrical stunt—a public lynching to portray a man, scheduled for cancer surgery, as a fugitive from justice,” the family said in the release.
They argue that the OSP’s decision to reject the video interview and insist on Mr. Ofori-Atta’s physical presence was not only unreasonable but violated constitutional principles of administrative justice and fairness.
Human Rights Court Case Pending
The controversy has already landed in Ghana’s Human Rights Court. In the case of Kenneth Ofori-Atta v. Office of the Special Prosecutor, the former minister challenges the legality of the OSP’s public declaration, citing breaches of his rights to liberty, health, and freedom of movement. A ruling is scheduled for June 18, 2025.
Despite the pending litigation, the OSP reportedly repeated the declaration that Mr. Ofori-Atta is a “Wanted Man” during a June 2 press conference, leading the family to accuse the office of contempt of court and malicious intent.
INTERPOL Red Notice Disputed
The family has petitioned the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) to review the basis on which the Red Notice was issued. They contend that key contextual information—including Mr. Ofori-Atta’s cancer diagnosis, upcoming surgery, and the ongoing human rights litigation—was likely omitted in Ghanaian authorities’ submission to INTERPOL.
They assert that failure to disclose this information could constitute a violation of Articles 2 and 3 of INTERPOL’s Constitution, which mandate respect for fundamental human rights and prohibit interventions of a political character.
Historical Context and Defense
Defending his public record, the family recalls Mr. Ofori-Atta’s track record of full cooperation with various legal and parliamentary probes during his tenure as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2023. These include investigations by CHRAJ, a parliamentary censure motion, and hearings before the ECOWAS Court of Justice—all of which, they say, cleared him of wrongdoing.
“Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta does not run from justice but always meets justice and successfully defends himself,” the statement declares. “Any claims suggesting that Mr. Ofori-Atta is fleeing justice are out of character, preposterous, and simply not true.”
Awaiting Surgery and Return
The family confirmed that Mr. Ofori-Atta is set to undergo surgery for cancer on June 13, and will return to Ghana once he has completed treatment and recovered. They expressed confidence that upon his return and full participation in the legal process, he will be acquitted, and his rights will be restored.
“The Special Prosecutor’s actions fit into the definition of vendetta,” the statement reads, warning that such conduct “makes the destruction of life a sport for political audiences.”
As the legal and political drama unfolds, all eyes are now on the Human Rights Court ruling on June 18 and INTERPOL’s response to the family’s request for a review of the Red Notice.
