Vision FC vs FC Samartex

Vision FC played out a goalless draw against visiting FC Samartex in their opening game of the season on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

The hosts played with ten men in the last 15 minutes of the game but stayed firm and dominated possession at Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex.

An evenly-contested first half ended goalless but after recess Vision looked the likelier side to break the deadlock until Richmond Ocran was sent off in the 75th minute.

Ocran lasted just 8 minutes on the pitch after being subbed on by head coach, Nana Kwaku Agyemang.

The spoils may have been shared at full time but the game showed Vision’s dominance at their home ground.

Samartex will be disappointed they couldn’t count on their numerical advantage to claim a crucial win on the road.

The Timber Giants will host Karela United for their next game while Vision are away to Medeama.

Meanwhile, the win is a real shot in the arm for Kotoko, who are preparing for the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

10-man Real Madrid maintain their 100% start with win at Real Sociedad

Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe scored one goal and set up another as 10-man Real Madrid maintained their 100% start in La Liga with a gritty 2-1 win at Real Sociedad.

Mbappe capitalised on a defensive error to notch his fourth league goal of the season, but Madrid’s task was made harder when defender Dean Huijsen was shown a red card.

France striker Mbappe then turned provider for Arda Guler to give Madrid a 2-0 lead.

Socieded reduced the deficit when Mikel Oyarzaba converted from the penalty spot.

Xabi Alonso’s side took the lead when Sociedad winger Mikel Goti’s casual backpass caught his defence flat-footed. Mbappe comfortably outpaced Igor Zubeldia then shrugged off Duje Caleta-Car before he crisply fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

Madrid were reduced to 10 men in the 32nd minute when Oyarzaba broke clear and was hauled down by Huijsen.

Mbappe had a major hand in Madrid’s second when he outfoxed Aritz Elustondo and cut the ball back from the byline through a crowded box for Guler to stylishly poke home.

Sociedad were awarded a penalty shortly after half-time when Ander Barrenetxea’s cross struck Dani Carvajal on the arm, and Oyarzaba calmly sent Thibaut Courtois the wrong way from the spot.

Juventus beat Inter Milan in seven-goal thriller

Juventus' Khephren Thuram and brother Marcus, of Inter Milan

Brothers Khephren and Marcus Thuram scored for opposing teams as Juventus beat Inter Milan 4-3 in a Serie A thriller.

The siblings – sons of ex-France international Lilian Thuram – had netted within six minutes of each other to leave the score at 3-3 with eight minutes left in the Derby d’Italia.

However, substitute Vasilije Adzic secured the points for Juventus when with a long-range effort in injury time.

Former Bournemouth and Newcastle defender Lloyd Kelly scored his first league goal for Juventus in the 14th minute when he side-footed a low volley into the corner.

But Hakan Calhanoglu got Inter back on level terms when he swept the ball home from distance on the half-hour mark, before Kenan Yildiz responded for the hosts eight minutes later with a powerful low drive.

Calhanoglu equalised for a second time with a a stunning volley from the edge of the penalty area in the 65th minute.

With 14 minutes left, forward Marcus Thuram headed Inter in front for the first time from a corner.

However, the 28-year-old’s younger sibling – by four years – midfielder Khephren nodded in a free-kick at the other end.

Juve bagged the winner in the first minute of stoppage time when 19-year-old Adzic fired home a stunning 30-yard strike.

Tottenham claim comfortable win over 10-man West Ham

Mohammed Kudus takes on a West Ham player

Tottenham claimed a comfortable Premier League victory over 10-man West Ham at London Stadium to renew the pressure on Graham Potter.

However, after the respite of a fine win at Nottingham Forest before the international break, it was a familiar tale for the Hammers and Potter, whose side have not won a Premier League game at home since 27 February.

Alarmingly they have also conceded eight goals in two home matches in the league this term although the dismissal of Tomas Soucek in the 54th minute hardly helped matters.

By then, the Hammers were already trailing, with Spurs midfielder Pape Matar Sarr left unmarked to head his side ahead shortly after the break.

And things went from bad to worse for the hosts after their Czech midfielder was shown a red card for a lunging challenge on Joao Palhinha, with Lucas Bergvall’s looping header doubling Tottenham’s lead just nine seconds after the match restarted.

When Micky van de Ven capitalised on some passive defending to drive in a third for the visitors just after the hour mark it was the cue for a number of home supporters to head for the exits on a disappointing evening.

Zubimendi scores his first Arsenal goal as they beat Nottingham Forest

Zubimendi scores his first Arsenal goal

Martin Zubimendi scored his first Arsenal goals as the Gunners comfortably beat Nottingham Forest to give Ange Postecoglou a defeat in his first game in charge.

Former Tottenham manager Postecoglou had not beaten Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in the previous four matches they had faced each other in, with three losses and one draw.

That record did not seem likely to change as, although Forest showed promise in some of their play, Arsenal took charge of the match.

Arsenal’s Noni Madueke, again starting on the right in place of the injured Bukayo Saka, was impressive as he seemed able to beat Morato every time he had the ball, while his inswinging corners caused problems for the Forest defence.

It was from one of these corners that Arsenal took the lead. Chris Wood headed one of Madueke’s deliveries to the edge of the box and Zubimendi hit a powerful volley past Matz Sels with a slight deflection from Murillo.

Morgan Gibbs-White had the best chance for Forest when he shot wide from inside the penalty area following a counter-attack.

The Gunners doubled their lead one minute into the second half when Eberechi Eze, making his first start for Arsenal, teed up Viktor Gyokeres to tap in from close range.

Zubimendi then added his second with a header when he got on the end of substitute Leandro Trossard’s cross.

Brentford score late to deny Chelsea victory in London derby

Brentford draw with Chelsea

Brentford substitute Fabio Carvalho tapped in an 93th-minute equaliser to deny Chelsea victory in a dramatic London derby.

Carvalho, 23, had been on the pitch for less than four minutes before turning in from a long Kevin Schade throw-in.

It had looked as if Chelsea substitutes Cole Palmer and Alejandro Garnacho would steal the headlines.

With the visitors a goal down, Palmer swept in a first-time volley to equalise just after the hour mark, having only been on for five minutes.

Then Garnacho, recently signed from Manchester United, helped set up midfielder Moises Caicedo to power in a shot past Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the 85th minute.

Brentford had deserved their half-time lead – forward Schade struck in the 35th minute shot after Jordan Henderson’s long ball had sparked a counter-attack.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca dipped into his vast playing resources by making three half-time changes in response.

Maresca had picked a starting line-up with the aim of resting key players for their return to the Champions League after a two-year absence this week. But it didn’t work, and he had to call on them – with Palmer also coming on early in the second half to replace winger Jamie Gittens.

Chelsea remain fifth after four Premier League matches – and now turn their attentions to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, before returning to domestic action against Manchester United. Brentford, meanwhile, sit 12th.

Heath Goldfields Under Fire … Workers Allege Unpaid Wages & Delay In Revamping The Mine

0
Mr Isaac Andrews Tandor - head of Minerals Commission

The Chronicle has learned from workers, contractors and union representatives that Heath Goldfields, the company currently managing the Bogoso-Prestea gold mine, that they have not fully been paid their wages and severance packages. The workers are also not happy with what they see as slow progress in reviving the historic mine.

Following months of demonstrations by the “Concerned Workers” coalition, Heath Goldfields made partial salary payments for February and March 2025.

The company explained that Future Global Resources (FGR), which managed the mine until September 2024, had not terminated contracts until its lease was revoked, creating complications in settlements.

Despite these explanations, workers told The Chronicle that only arrears from April to September 2025 have been cleared, leaving managers unpaid and key entitlements such as provident funds and severance packages outstanding.

Union leaders recounted to The Chronicle that Heath management admitted in a recent meeting with the Ghana Mineworkers’ Union that it lacked sufficient funds to meet the full obligations.

A proposed payment plan was presented, but was rejected by workers, who accused the company of showing “bad faith.”

Workers alleged that only a handful of junior staff with smaller provident balances had been settled, while the majority of employees, particularly senior staff, are still waiting.

“This is creating frustration among the workforce. People have families to take care of, and they cannot continue to live on promises,” one union representative said.

Contractors and suppliers are also struggling. Locum contractors, who claim they are owed around US$4 million told The Chronicle that only US$1 million has so far been paid.

They said they have not received any clear roadmap from management about when the outstanding amounts will be settled.

They told The Chronicle that, while journalists invited to tour the mine were shown tanks and processing areas, visible progress on refurbishment was limited.

“If full refurbishment were underway, we would expect to see preparatory works, such as sandblasting and installation of key components. What we saw suggested a slower process than expected,” one technical observer noted.

Meanwhile, underground operations are being hampered by flooding. Workers explained that water levels have risen significantly, with several levels submerged and critical pumping equipment requiring repair.

Heath Goldfields recently brought in a 90kw pump to supplement existing equipment, but experts say this remains inadequate for the scale of the challenge.

The tailings storage facility (TSF) is another area of concern. According to workers, Heath continues to rely on older pumps and equipment at the TSF, while heavy rains and growing vegetation could undermine the embankments if urgent rehabilitation is not carried out. Communities downstream have voiced anxiety about potential risks should the facility’s integrity be compromised.

The financial strain has also led to job losses. Workers told The Chronicle that staff, who had been retained for care and maintenance were recently laid off, leaving a workforce of just about 40 people, barely enough to handle essential operations.

The current controversy must be viewed against the backdrop of Bogoso-Prestea’s difficult history.

FGR, which acquired the mine in 2020, was accused of chronic underinvestment, unpaid wages and mounting debts, leading to the eventual revocation of its lease in 2024.

Despite its shortcomings, FGR continued underground operations and paid staff until it left. Heath Goldfields, which took over afterward, has yet to produce gold since assuming control.

By contrast, Blue Gold Limited, which acquired the asset after FGR, has announced significant investment plans and secured funding to expand underground mining.

Sources close to the sector told The Chronicle that Blue Gold has already resumed some mining operations, presenting a sharp contrast with Heath’s current difficulties.

For now, the uncertainty at Bogoso-Prestea continues. Workers remain restless over unpaid entitlements, contractors are demanding clearer payment schedules and industry insiders warn that without firm financial backing and visible technical progress, the mine’s revival will remain in doubt.

“Workers are not interested in promises or public relations. We simply want our wages, our severance packages, and real work to start on the mine.

“Until then, confidence in Heath Goldfields will remain very low,” a mineworkers’ union activist told The Chronicle.

Social Media Abusers Will Face The Law -JM

0
President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to individuals who engage in spreading false information and hate speech, especially through social media platforms, saying they will face the full rigors of the law.

Speaking during his maiden presidential engagement, held in Accra, on Wednesday evening, Mr. Mahama revealed that the National Signal Bureau (NSB) has acquired advanced tracking technology capable of identifying and locating individuals whose online activities threaten national peace and cohesion.

“We can find you. You, those doing hate speeches and things, we’ll use your IP numbers, we’ll trace you and deal with you under the criminal law for inciting violence,” the President declared emphatically.

Mr. Mahama expressed deep concern about the increasing proliferation of hate speech and misinformation, particularly on platforms like TikTok, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

He noted that the evolution of media has created a new class of content creators who are often untrained individuals that operate without accountability.

“The traditional sense of a journalist trained and working in media houses that have corporate identity and can be held responsible is beginning to change.

“Now, anybody with a phone and a camera can report news or comment on national issues. But the point is, who holds those people responsible?”

Citing recent incendiary statements circulating online related to the ongoing conflict in Bawku, the President said such rhetoric has fuelled tensions and deepened divisions. He emphasised that the NSB will now actively monitor and respond to such threats.

“Some incendiary statements made in the Bawku war are fuelling what is happening there, making people hate each other. This falls within the ambit of the National Signal Bureau,” he said.

In recent times, some TikTokers, James Kwame Baffoe Abronye and Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare have been arrested and arraigned before court for allegedly publishing fake news with intent to cause fear and panic, and offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace.

In a broader outline of his administration’s security plans, President Mahama announced the allocation of GH₵1 billion to retool the country’s security agencies as part of efforts to enhance law enforcement capabilities.

It is, however, unclear whether this funding will be sufficient to effectively retool the various security agencies, particularly the Ghana Prisons Service, which continues to struggle with inadequate resources, including a lack of fit-for-purpose vehicles for transporting inmates and accused persons to and from the courts.

On the energy front, the President disclosed that the Ministry of Energy has granted a declaration of commerciality for the Eban Akuma oil and gas discoveries in Cape Three Points’ Block 4, confirming their commercial viability.

The approval clears the way for the joint venture partners – E&I Vitor, Woodfields and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to proceed with the full development of the oil field.

President Mahama’s address covered a broad spectrum of national issues, including economic recovery, education reforms, environmental protection and youth development in sports. However, the President’s most forceful statements were reserved for the challenges posed by the unregulated digital media space.

“We must start making regulation for this new media because it’s unregulated. Everybody takes a phone and says anything,” he added.

The President’s remarks are expected to ignite a national conversation around media accountability, digital rights and the balance between freedom of expression and national security.
