Residents of Ehin Grammar community in Ibadan, Oyo State have appealed to the state government and security agencies to deploy security personnel to all public secondary schools in the area during school hours.

The residents noted that incessant student’s clashes have lead to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira and affected many families negatively.

The residents made these declarations on Wednesday, during a press conference held at the community hall.

The residents noted that incessant student’s clashes in schools such as Anglican Grammar School, Ibadan Grammar School, St. David’s High School Olubi Memorial Grammar School and St. Luke’s College are worrisome.

General Chairman of the Ehin Grammar Landlords, Mukaila Ajibike, while addressing journalists, insisted that frequent clashes among students of secondary schools in the area have lead to violence.

Ajibike, who spoke on behalf of other landlords and landladies in the area, implored the state government and security agencies to deploy security personnel to the schools in the area, especially during school hours.

He also called on the state government to immediately repair the roads in the community.

He said “Rising incidents of student brigandage in recent months, our peace and safety have been threatened by incessant violent clashes among students of some secondary schools in our area, notably Ibadan Grammar School, St David’s High School, Anglican Grammar School, and others within Molete and its environs.

“These inter-school fights often spill into our streets, causing fear, disruption to businesses, and insecurity for residents. We, therefore, call on the Oyo State Government to urgently deploy security personnel to the affected areas.

“We are therefore appealing directly to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and the Chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Alawode, to take immediate steps to address these challenges deploying security to curb student unrest, repairing school fences, and rehabilitating our road.”

Why court froze ex-NNPCL boss account with Nigerian bank -Judge

Ex-NNPCL boss Mele Kyari

Justice Emeka Nwite has explained why he granted an ex parte order by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to freeze the account of former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari.

The development has landed Kyari in fresh trouble.

Justice Emeka Nwite granted the ex parte order by the EFCC to freeze Kyari’s account on Tuesday.

Under the order, Kyari’s funds totalling N661,464,601.50 in three Jaiz Bank accounts—registered in his name, the Guwori Community Development Foundation, and the Guwori Community Development Foundation Flood Relief—have been frozen from Tuesday pending investigation.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite stated, “I have listened to counsel to the applicant and gone through the affidavit evidence with the exhibits and written address attached in support. I found that this application is meritorious, and it is hereby granted as prayed.”

The judge subsequently fixed September 23 for the report of ownership of the bank accounts.

DAILY POST recalls Kyari was sacked by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2025, and Bayo Ojulari was appointed as his replacement.

Following Kyari’s removal, allegations of fraud under his tenure have emerged; however, the former oil firm boss has denied any involvement.

Nigerians reject pay rise for Tinubu, Shettima, Akpabio, others

The Nigerian Government is considering an upward review of salaries for political office holders, following concerns that their current earnings are inadequate and outdated.

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mohammed Shehu, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Shehu noted that President Bola Tinubu presently earns N1.5 million monthly, while ministers receive less than N1 million — figures that have remained unchanged since 2008.

“You are paying the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria N1.5 million a month, with a population of over 200 million people. Everybody believes that it is a joke,” he said.

He further argued that the disparity between political office holders and heads of federal agencies was unjustifiable, pointing out that some agency chiefs earn up to twenty times more than ministers or even the Attorney-General of the Federation.

However, the move has stirred fresh controversy in a country where workers are still demanding a living wage, with millions of Nigerians struggling under inflation and rising poverty.

Observers believe the development has reopened debate about leadership, public trust, and the true cost of governance in Africa’s largest democracy.

DAILY POST reports that although the minimum wage in Nigeria is currently pegged at N70,000 per month, as approved by the federal government and some state governments, not all states have implemented it, especially for local government workers and primary school teachers.

Reacting to the proposed pay rise, Professor Chidiebere Nwachukwu, a senior lecturer at the University of Nigeria, told DAILY POST that the move is misplaced.

“I don’t think I will react differently to whatever other Nigerians are saying about it. The politicians in Nigeria…it’s like Nigeria exists to care for the greedy politicians while the masses are being ignored. So those who do the bulk of the work are ignored — they are paid peanuts,” he said.

NPA: Secure LPG Cylinders in Safe, Stable Position During Transportation

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has advised the public to ensure that filled LPG cylinders are transported in a safe and secure position.

This precaution, according to the NPA, helps avoid over-pressurization, which could damage the pressure relief valve, leading to gas leaks or even explosions.

Head of Consumer Services at the National Petroleum Authority, Eunice Budu Nyarko, emphasized this during an LPG safety campaign in tertiary schools in the Upper West Region.

She highlighted that cylinders should ideally be transported in an upright position to minimize risks.

“Consumers of petroleum products, especially LPG, must prioritize safety,” she stated adding “Ignoring safety measures could result in fire outbreaks at homes and workplaces, leading to loss of lives, injuries, and damage of properties.”

Answering a question about the risk of wrong fuel dispensing at filling stations, Mrs.Budu Nyarko urged motorists to always confirm the type of fuel they are purchasing with attendants. She also advised paying attention to color-coded fuel nozzles: Red for petrol (Super), Black for diesel and Green for high-octane (RON 95) products.

Abraham Dauda, the NPA’s Upper West Regional Supervisor for Inspections and Monitoring, warned students against using mobile phones while cooking and stressed adherence to safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Prof.HamidatuSaakaDarimani, suggested that Ghana adopts Burkina Faso’s system of purchasing cylinders from licensed outlets only.

This, she believes, would protect consumers from unknowingly buying repainted or substandard cylinders.

While commending the NPA for its ongoing public sensitization efforts, Prof.Darimani stressed that safety goes beyond fire prevention, it requires a deeper understanding of the risks posed by negligence.

The Luckiest Raffle Returns: Players to Win GH¢2.5 Million in Season Two

Dennis Adutwum, Chief Executive Officer of Luckiest

Ghana’s first-ever seasonal lottery, The Luckiest Raffle, has officially launched its much-anticipated Season Two, in partnership with the National Lottery Authority’s (NLA) Caritas Lottery platform.

The initiative promises life-changing rewards, with players standing a chance to share in a whopping GH¢2.5 million prize pool, alongside other exciting giveaways running until December 20.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of The Luckiest Raffle, Mr. Dennis Adutwum, explained that the raffle was created to directly impact everyday Ghanaians across different communities.

“This year, we are giving as much as GH¢2.5 million to The Luckiest Ticket winners. We will be visiting more than 100 communities, washing bays, restaurants, hospitals and corporate offices. The Luckiest is designed for the ordinary person and we want to ensure everyone has the chance to benefit.”

According to Mr. Adutwum, Season Two will not only end with cash prizes, but also sustain momentum throughout the campaign by rewarding participants with electronic gadgets, hotel stays and other valuable items during community draws.

How It Works

Participation is simple and affordable. Tickets range from as little as GH¢1 to GH¢5,000, available via the shortcode *712#.

Purchasers can buy tickets for themselves or gift them to others. The unique feature of The Luckiest Ticket is its shareability: players can share their ticket codes with friends and family, allowing multiple people to contribute to the same ticket.

“When that ticket wins, all contributors share the winnings, multiplied by 500 times the amount they participated with. So even with a small contribution, players stand a chance of walking away with huge sums,” Mr. Adutwum explained.

He further urged the public to consider gifting ‘The Luckiest Ticket’ during the festive season, highlighting it as a meaningful alternative to traditional presents.

NLA’s Commitment

Representing the National Lottery Authority, Acting Director of Marketing, Events and Caritas, Mr. Kwabena Opoku Boakye, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting such initiatives under its Good Causes Foundation.

“The partnership with The Luckiest has been very successful since its first season last year,” he noted.

“Through the Caritas Lottery platform, we generate revenue to fund activities in youth and sports development, health, and education, helping the needy and destitute in society, as mandated by our Act.”

He cautioned against patronising illegal lottery operators, stressing that unlike the NLA, such operators do not contribute to social interventions.

“Don’t send your money to illegals, they keep it for themselves. Play only on our platforms so that your contributions will make a difference in society,” he said.

Community Impact

Beyond prize winnings, The Luckiest also pledges to embark on social interventions in the communities it engages.

“We will go into the communities and do good works. That is what lottery is all about, changing lives and giving back,” Mr.Adutwum assured.

The raffle’s Season Two media campaign is now officially underway, with organisers encouraging Ghanaians from all walks of life to participate responsibly.

Black Sherif explains meaning of controversial song ‘Sacrifice’

0
Black Sherif

Black Sherif has unpacked the meaning behind his song Sacrifice from the Iron Boy album.

He says the song reflects the tension between self-improvement and preserving one’s own well-being.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Black Sherif explained: “If I could sacrifice it all, I wouldn’t wait for you to tell me to sacrifice it all. That is what I am saying because sometimes you have to save some of you for you. You can’t exert all your energy trying to save people and then you are dying inside. You know, you can do that for as long as you can but you can’t do that forever. That is all I am trying to say. Sometimes you have to save some of yourself for yourself.”

Music Lab is a recently introduced monthly segment on Showbiz A-Z, launched by Joy FM on 16th August 2025. The segment explores Ghana’s most talked-about songs from multiple angles: vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, arrangement and production – with commentary from music experts.

It takes listeners behind the curtain of Ghana’s most talked-about songs, exploring the creative and technical processes that bring them to life and aims to demystify production while celebrating Ghana’s music culture.

The inaugural edition of Music Lab, hosted by Kwame Dadzie, featured a panel of industry professionals: Austine Woode (broadcaster); Kofi Boachie-Ansah, known as ‘Beatmenace’ (audio engineer); Freeman Daniel Ame (voice coach and artiste development manager); and Hubert Kofi Anti, known as ‘Ubeatz’ (music producer). They dissected Sacrifice from lyrical, vocal and instrumental perspectives.

DR Congo rebels killed 140 civilians despite peace process, rights group says

0
DR Congo M23 rebels

M23 rebels killed at least 140 people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo last month in one of the worst atrocities by the armed group since its resurgence in late 2021, Human Rights Watch has said in a report.

This is despite a peace process, brokered by the US and Qatar, to end the conflict in the region.

Witnesses told the advocacy group that the Rwanda-backed rebels “summarily executed” local residents, including women and children, largely from the Hutu ethnic group in the Rutshuru area, near the Virunga National Park.

The rebels have previously strongly denied any role in these killings, calling the charges a “blatant misrepresentation of the facts”.

It did not respond to a request to comment on the report, the rights group said.

The alleged massacre appears to have taken place during an M23 campaign against an armed Hutu group, the FDLR, formed by perpetrators of the 1994 genocide in neighbouring Rwanda.

HRW said the total killings in July may exceed 300, corroborating similar findings by the UN earlier this month.

Fighting between government troops and the M23 escalated in January, when the rebels captured large parts of the mineral-rich east, including the regional capital Goma.

Thousands of people have been killed and hundreds of thousands of civilians forced from their homes in the ongoing conflict, the UN says.

In the report, released on Wednesday, HRW said the M23 used machetes and gunfire to attack people in at least 14 villages and farming areas near the Virunga National Park between 10 and 30 July.

The M23 fighters surrounded and blocked off all roads into the area to prevent people from leaving, witnesses said.
