Filling stations reduce fuel price as landing cost drops

Nigerian filling stations have reduced the price of premium motor spirit as the landing cost of petrol dropped further below Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price.

DAILY POST correspondents gathered on Wednesday that NIPCO, AA Rano, Eterna, and Empire Energy filling stations across locations in Abuja have reduced their fuel pump price.

NIPCO and AA Rano dropped their fuel price to N940 per litre, down from between N950 and N955.

Similarly, Eterna and Empire Energy retail outlets dispense at N945 and 955 from N955 and N959, respectively.
This means that the filling stations in Abuja reduced their petrol pump prices between N4 and N10 per litre.

DAILY POST earlier reported that NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja adjusted their pump price downward to N945 per litre, up from N955.

Meanwhile, at other filling stations, including MRS (Dangote Petrol) and Ranoil, retail petrol prices have remained unchanged at N950 and N955 per litre, respectively, as of Thursday morning.

“We may reduce our price in the evening or so, but at the moment we still dispense fuel at N950 per litre,” an MRS filling station manager in Abuja told DAILY POST in anonymity.

This comes days after energy prices data released on November 3, 2025, by the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria showed that the price of the landing cost of petrol dropped N827.04 per litre.

This is a drop from N829.77 recorded at the end of last month.
Checks on petrol ex-depot prices showed that Dangote Refinery stood at N872, Pinnacle (N872), NIPCO (N870), BOVAS (N870), Aiteo (N870), and AA Rano (N870). This made Dangote Refinery’s N2 more expensive than depot owners such as NIPCO, AA Rano, and BOVAS, according to Petroleumpricing.

Also, the petrol landing cost at N827.04 per litre is N44.96 cheaper than Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price for petrol, which stood at N872 per litre.

This comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that he has given approval to a 15 per cent import duty tax on petrol and diesel to encourage Dangote Refinery.

The decision by marketers and stakeholders confirmed it would increase imported fuel prices when implemented in the coming days.

Emirates set to resume Nigeria flights after two years

Emirates Airlines

Emirates airline has announced that it would resume flights to Nigeria, ending close to two years suspension of operations on the route.

This was contained in a statement by the airline’s Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, on Thursday.

“We are excited to resume our services to Nigeria. We thank the Nigerian government for their partnership and support in re-establishing this route, and we look forward to welcoming passengers back on board,” the statement said.

DAILY POST reports that the United Arab Emirates, UAE, stopped issuing visas to Nigerians in 2022 after Emirates suspended flights between the nations because of an inability to repatriate funds from the country.

The airline has been popular with Nigerian customers in the past, and Emirates said it hopes to reconnect travellers to Dubai and onwards to more than 140 destinations with its resumption of services.

The suspension is coming following President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a meeting last September in Abu Dhabi.

US targets visa ban, asset freeze against individuals and groups over christian persecution claims

President Donald Trump

A new bill introduced in the US Congress has proposed targeted sanctions and other restrictive measures against individuals and groups accused of serious violations of religious freedom in Nigeria.

The legislation specifically named the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore as entities implicated in such abuses.

The bill introduced by Smith Christopher, member of the house of representatives, proposed sanctions on members of the groups including visa restrictions and asset freezes.

He presented the bill on Tuesday while commending US President Donald Trump for re-designating Nigeria a country of particular concern (CPC).

“President Donald J. Trump acted appropriately and decisively to redesignate Nigeria as a CPC and hold the Nigerian government accountable for its complicity in religious persecution by radical Islamists, such as Boko Haram and Fulani terrorists,” Christopher said.

In the bill, Christopher noted that the US has also placed “Fulani Ethnic Militias” operating in Benue and Plateau States on its Entities of Particular Concern (EPC) list under the International Religious Freedom Act.

Entities of Particular Concern (EPCs) are non-state actors that have committed especially severe violations of religious freedom under U.S. law.

Christopher’s bill also suggested that the US should provide immediate humanitarian assistance directly to faith-based groups to support internally displaced people in Nigeria’s middle belt states.

We’re determined to defeat terrorism -Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has pledged his administration’s resolve to deepen global engagement and intensify the fight against terrorism and criminality.

The President spoke shortly after an economic briefing by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who reported during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Thursday that the administration’s reform agenda continues to stimulate investor confidence and deliver notable economic gains.

According to the President, the government remains firmly committed to moving the country forward under the Renewed Hope Agenda, despite prevailing political and security pressures.

He also acknowledged the scale of the security and economic challenges confronting the nation.

“The task ahead is immense. But we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, to defeat terrorism and build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria,” he said.

President Tinubu said the Eurobond’s oversubscription, despite political anxieties, underlined global faith in Nigeria’s fundamentals.

“Despite the political headwinds and fears, our partners have continued to engage with confidence,” he said.

Edun had expressed gratitude to the President and cabinet members for their support during his recent illness, explaining that the ongoing reforms, though challenging, were driven by a clear objective to build a competitive economy that creates jobs and lifts millions out of poverty.

According to the minister, Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.23 per cent in Q2 2025, the strongest expansion in a decade outside the post-COVID-19 rebound.

He said 13 sectors expanded by more than seven per cent, up from nine in the previous quarter, evidence of broad-based resilience.

He noted that the industrial sector nearly doubled its growth from 3.72 per cent to 7.45 per cent, reflecting rising productivity and renewed investor interest.

GCB e-collector accused of diverting GH¢490,400 into online trading scheme

Court

An e-collector with GCB Bank PLC has been hauled before the Circuit Court in Accra for allegedly stealing GH¢490,400 from customers’ deposits and channelling the funds into an online trading platform.

Samuel Owusu, 29, stationed at the bank’s Abossey Okai branch, is facing a charge of stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). He pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by His Honour Kwabena Obiri Yeboah, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with one surety. The case has been adjourned to December 11, 2025.

According to police facts presented in court by Prosecutor Sgt. Priscilla Avorgah, the complainant, retired ASP Daniel Boakye, Manager of Security and Fraud Investigation at GCB Bank, reported that Owusu was employed on contract as an e-collector, responsible for receiving deposits from customers and crediting their accounts using a bank-issued mobile device.

A routine audit on October 29, 2025 allegedly uncovered that GH¢490,400 received from customers between February and October 2025 had not been lodged into their accounts. The accused was confronted by management and reportedly confessed, admitting he diverted the funds into qadatralife.com, an online trading website, hoping to earn profit.

Police say Owusu reiterated the confession in his caution statement, claiming he took the money in bits by failing to deposit customer funds after collection. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

The prosecutor told the court investigations are ongoing. Owusu remains on bail pending further proceedings.

New Hope for Bono East, Savannah and Upper West Regions as President Mahama Cuts Sod for Major Road Projects

President John Mahama addressing the gathering

Farmers and traders in Ghana’s north-western corridor are poised to receive a major boost after President John Dramani Mahama formally cut the sod to launch construction of the 195-kilometre Wenchi–Bole–Sawla–Wa Road under the government’s flagship “Big Push” initiative.

Road Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza delivering his address

The road links the Bono, Savannah and Upper West Regions, serving as a critical economic corridor for agribusiness. The route carries more than 60 % of agro-freight for the region – including maize, yams, millet and cashew – and connects through to the Burkina Faso border.

President Mahama has cut the sod for the start of the road project

Under the project plan, some 1,800 direct jobs and approximately 4,500 indirect jobs are expected during construction. Once completed within 24 months, the authorities say travel time along the stretch will be cut from around 6 hours to under 3 hours, vehicle operating costs will fall by about 30 % and accident rates may be reduced by 45 %.

The 195 km segment is divided into seven concurrent lots to accelerate delivery. Works will include reconstructing the pavement to asphaltic surfacing and installing road-safety features. In addition, town roads in Bamboi, Banda Nkwanta and Tinga will be improved.

“Our focus now is on roads that connect regional and district capitals – this is just the beginning, not the end,” President Mahama said in his remarks. He added: “Ghanaians will have the best roads in West Africa within 24 months of starting the Big Push.” He emphasised his government will “not tolerate delays or shoddy work. We demand the highest standards and quality.”

President John Mahama in a conversation with a traditional ruler

What is the Big Push Initiative?

The Big Push is an accelerated national infrastructure-development programme launched by the government. It aims to roll out an estimated US$10 billion plan to drive job creation and complete major roads, bridges, water-supply systems, rail lines and other infrastructure across Ghana.

Deputy Minister for Roads Alhassan Suhuyini and Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson

Key road-corridor components of the Big Push include improvements in the Western Corridor, Eastern Corridor and other inter-regional highways.

The initiative also pledges to benefit all 16 regions of Ghana, with priority given to roads connecting regional capitals and major economic hubs.

Traditional rulers and opinion leaders

This corridor has long been identified as vital for the movement of agricultural produce from the middle belt through to the north and beyond. President Mahama noted that the route had deteriorated significantly, despite carrying more than 2,000 vehicles and 4,000 tonnes of goods daily making the rehabilitation a “critical step” in unlocking trade, reducing transport costs and enhancing safety.

The government says the works will proceed in a phased but intensive manner. With the road divided into seven lots and construction set to proceed concurrently, the timeline of 24 months is ambitious but central to the Big Push promise.

President Mahama further announced that contractors would be required to prioritise local labour and sourcing of goods to ensure that the communities along Bamboi, Banda Nkwanta, Tinga, Bole and Sawla benefit directly from the project.

As a further illustration of the broader initiative, earlier this year the government began groundwork for the dualisation of the Takoradi–Cape Coast highway under the Big Push.

Cardi B & Kehlani

Cardi B punches her ticket into the double-digit No. 1 club on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart as “Safe,” featuring Kehlani, becomes her 10th leader. The track climbs from the runner-up spot to rule the list dated Nov. 8. Thanks to its victory, “Safe” outdoes the peak of Cardi B and Kehlani’s previous collaboration, “Ring,” which achieved a No. 2 best in November 2018.

“Safe,” released on Atlantic Records, was the most-played song on panel-contributing rhythmic radio stations in the United States for the tracking week of Oct. 24-30, according to Luminate, and improved 17% in plays compared with the prior week. Due to its surge, the collaboration wins the Greatest Gainer honor, awarded weekly to the song with the largest increase in plays.

With the new champ, Cardi B adds her 10th No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay and is the 13th artist to reach the milestone since the radio ranking’s launch in October 1992. Drake leads all acts, with 43 champs, while Rihanna, at 17, places second overall and claims the best total among women.

Elsewhere, “Safe” wins a third term atop the Rap Airplay chart, where it improved 19% in week-over-week audience and pushes 8-6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart through a 22% gain to 13.5 million in audience at the format for the tracking week. Gains from various sectors help the single rise 22-21 on the Radio Songs chart, reaching 24.2 million (up 20%) across all radio formats during the latest tracking week.

Meghan Markle makes shocking return to acting

0
Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle made a “sweet” on-set gesture during her first day on set for her surprise acting return.

“Meghan was on the set today,” an insider told People on Wednesday of the Duchess of Sussex’s new gig in Amazon MGM Studios’ “Close Personal Friends.”

Though the source said Markle has a small role in the Jason Orley-directed film, they claimed “she seemed very relaxed and happy” during her first acting role in eight years.

“She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” the insider said.

Page Six has reached out to Markle’s reps for comment but did not immediately hear back.

News broke Wednesday that the mom of two joined the cast of “Close Personal Friends,” which also stars Jack Quaid, Lily Collins and Brie Larson.

Markle, 44, will reportedly play herself in the film, which follows two couples: one famous and the other not.

“This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves,” a source from production told the US Sun Wednesday, adding that the As Ever founder “has been swamped with offers but this one felt right.”

“It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set,” the insider continued.

“Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement.”

The source also said that Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, is “really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”

Jay-Z’s paternity case dismissed 10 years after man claimed he was fathered by rapper

0
Jay-Z

A paternity lawsuit filed by a man claiming to be Jay-Z’s son — Rymir Satterthwaite — has been dismissed with prejudice, Page Six has learned.

In documents obtained by Page Six on Wednesday, a California judge granted the rapper’s motion to dismiss a federal paternity suit filed earlier this year through legal guardian and paralegal Lillie Coley.

Despite repeatedly claiming he’s the son of the music mogul, the ruling means Satterthwaite, 30, can no longer file the same lawsuit or request paternity tests from Jay-Z — also known as Shawn Carter — in the matter.

Page Six has reached out to reps for Jay-Z for comment, but did not receive a response.

Satterthwaite alleged in court documents that the “99 Problems” rapper impregnated his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, back in the ’90s — allegedly making Carter his biological father.

Carter has repeatedly denied he is Rymir’s father.

Rymir previously claimed he was withdrawing his federal paternity case.

“I did withdraw my case,” Rymir said in a July 27 Instagram upload, adding that he was abandoning the lawsuit because there was plenty “going on behind closed doors.”

“I have not stopped my fight,” Rymir continued. “We got to step back and play chess, not checkers.”

At the time, attorneys for Carter, 55, slammed the longtime paternity allegations as “harassment.”

“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed—and rejected—in multiple other courts,” the documents read, describing the legal actions as “just the latest” in a “decades long” string of “harassment.”

Rymir denied in documents that he was filing the suit for what amounts to back child support, but claimed instead he was seeking reputational and emotional distress damages.
