Wizkid, Asake share collab EP dubbed ‘Real’

0
Asake and Wizkid

Global superstars Wizkid and Asake have officially shared their historic collaborative project. The four song EP, titled REAL, Vol. 1, blends lush Afro-fusion production with the spiritual, rhythmic storytelling both artists are known for.

With production by Magicsticks, lol, and 4Tunes, the project carries a cohesive sonic identity rooted in contemporary Afrobeats. REAL, Vol. 1 is out worldwide.

First announced in a joint interview in 2025, REAL, Vol. 1 features artists whose creative paths continue to intersect at pivotal moments. New music from the duo followed weeks of speculation and social media teasers that have sent the music world into a frenzy.

They shared the smooth, percussion led feel good single “Jogodo,” which received support from Billboard, Essence, Vibe, OkayAfrica and more. “Alaye,” “Iskolodo” and focus track “Turbulence” round out the tracklist.

The latter is accompanied by a music video, and the single introduces subtle, edgy experimentation without losing its dance-ready core.

Following a run of chart-topping collaborations, Wizkid and Asake deliver a tightly curated project built around rhythm, ease and cultural confidence. While both artists have previously dominated the charts individually, this project marks their first full-length body of work together.

The project represents a monumental collision of two eras of African music excellence: the smooth, soulful melodies of Wizkid’s “Starboy” era and the high-energy, infectious tracks that has made Asake a global phenomenon.

REAL, Vol. 1 arrives as a highly anticipated follow-up to the three chart topping previous singles between them including the GRAMMY-Award nominated “MMS.”

Wizkid’s 17-year, record-breaking legacy as one of Afrobeats’ most influential global figures meets Asake’s award-winning, chart-dominating rise of the past five years. They both have been fundamental in propelling the genre to the forefront of global charts.

Long-time friends and collaborators, the two artists continue to champion each other’s music and contributions to the genre – proudly representing Nigeria and the wider continent’s undeniable impact on the global music landscape. REAL, Vol. 1 marks a defining moment in a partnership that blends experience, momentum and cultural relevance at the highest level.

Bournemouth stun Liverpool with stoppage-time winner

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

Amine Adli scored a stoppage-time winner as Bournemouth ended Liverpool’s 13-match unbeaten run in a Premier League thriller at Vitality Stadium.

After a goalmouth scramble, Adli finished in the fifth minute of time added on to send the home fans wild after Liverpool had initially come from two goals down to level.

With 10 minutes to go, Dominik Szoboszlai scored his second free-kick of the week to equalise for Liverpool after Virgil van Dijk had initially pulled a goal back.

A calamitous seven-minute spell for Liverpool saw Arne Slot’s side go two goals down on the south coast.

Evanilson gave the Cherries the lead in the 26th minute after Van Dijk failed to clear the ball and Joe Gomez was injured as he clashed with goalkeeper Alisson while trying to block Evanilson’s strike.

With Gomez off the pitch and Wataru Endo ready to replace him, Liverpool did not kick the ball out and carried on playing with 10 men for seven minutes.

In the 33rd minute, Alex Jimenez got on the end of a through ball from James Hill and finished through Alisson’s legs to double Bournemouth’s lead.

Liverpool then made the change and showed great resilience to come back into the game with Van Dijk heading in Szoboszlai’s corner on the brink of half-time, before Mohamed Salah, from a free-kick, rolled the ball into the path of Szoboszlai who fired into the bottom corner past Djordje Petrovic to level.

Both sides had chances to win it in normal time with Alisson tipping Ryan Christie’s effort over before Petrovic pulled off a great stop to deny Florian Wirtz.

Adli’s last-gasp winner stood after a video assistant referee (VAR) check for a possible foul in the build-up, meaning Liverpool tasted defeat for the first time since November.

Yet to win a Premier League game in 2026, Liverpool remain fourth in the table, while Bournemouth rise to 13th.

Chelsea ride Palmer absence to beat 10-man Palace

Estevao Willian, Chelsea

Estevao Willian replaced the injured Cole Palmer and inspired a comfortable win over Crystal Palace that moved Chelsea back into the Premier League’s top four.

Goals from Estevao, Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez earned the points at Selhurst Park, while Palace’s England midfielder Adam Wharton was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the space of six second‑half minutes.

Chris Richards headed in a consolation goal from close range late on.

Palace had looked the more likely to score first early in the match. Striker Jean‑Philippe Mateta, linked with Aston Villa and Juventus, went one‑on‑one with Robert Sanchez but hit his shot straight at the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Fernandez and Caicedo had efforts for Chelsea, with returning Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, fresh from winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, having an attempt at the other end before Estevao opened the scoring in the 34th minute.

He latched on to a poor back-pass from Jaydee Canvot, used his pace to escape marker Tyrick Mitchell and drove a firm shot past Dean Henderson.

The 18-year-old Brazilian had a further attempt before the interval – and after the break, he clipped a pass to forward Joao Pedro, who turned Palace midfielder Wharton, before shooting through Henderson to double the advantage.

After a lengthy check by the video assistant referee, Chelsea were then awarded a penalty – Joao Pedro’s goalbound effort having struck Canvot’s hand inside the box – and Fernandez converted.

Minutes after earning a first yellow card for pulling Caicedo, Wharton was late in a tackle, earned his second booking and was sent off.

It was a miserable afternoon for Palace despite Richards heading in from a corner in the 88th minute.

Indonesia resumes search for about 80 missing after landslide kills 10

Indonesian rescue members carry a body bag containing the remains of a victim

Indonesian rescuers have resumed searching for some 80 people still missing in a deadly landslide, after the mission coordinator said operations had to be suspended overnight due to harsh weather.

The death toll from Saturday’s landslide in a residential area of West Java province rose to 10 on Sunday, according to state-run media, announcing three more deaths.

Triggered by heavy rain, the landslide barrelled into villages in West Java’s West Bandung early on Saturday morning, burying residential areas and forcing dozens of people to evacuate their homes.

The rain forced rescue efforts to pause overnight, mission coordinator Ade Dian Permana said in a statement, before the operations resumed on Sunday.

Rescuers were hampered on Saturday as unstable terrain and rains hindered them from deploying heavy machinery, Kompas TV reported, citing authorities.

There were multiple reports of floods in West Java, including the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

The floods have caused residents in heavily affected areas to evacuate to higher ground or unaffected places.

Resident Dedi Kurniawan, 36, said it was the first such landslide he had witnessed in Pasir Langu village in a hilly area of the province about 100km (60 miles) southeast of Jakarta.

“Sometimes we have only small floods from the nearest river, but this time [the landslide] came from the forest,” he told the Reuters news agency.

unha scores dramatic winner as Man Utd beat Arsenal

Manchester United players celebrating the winning goal

Matheus Cunha scored a dramatic late winner for Manchester United as they defeated Premier League leaders Arsenal in a five-goal thriller at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners’ first home defeat of the season, following wins for their title rivals Manchester City and Aston Villa, means their lead has been narrowed to four points.

Arsenal had started the match extremely well, taking the lead when United defender Lisandro Martinez put the ball into his own net in the 29th minute.

The hosts gifted Manchester United a route back into the match when

‘s loose pass put Bryan Mbeumo through on goal and the United striker calmly went past David Raya and put the ball into an empty net.

United then shocked the home side, taking the lead five minutes into the second half through a superb strike from Patrick Dorgu, who hammered in a shot off the underside of the crossbar.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tried to force a turnaround in the match as he made a quadruple change, throwing on Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino and Ben White. It was Merino who thought he had rescued at least a point when he bundled in from a corner in the 84th minute.

However, just three minutes later, substitute Cunha picked up a pass from Kobbie Mainoo and curled a superb strike into the bottom corner from about 25 yards out.

The win moves Manchester United into fourth place.

Cuban official accuses US of ‘piracy’ against sanctioned Caribbean island

Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel waves a Cuban flag

A Cuban diplomat has accused the United States of “international piracy”, as Washington continues to block Venezuelan oil from reaching the Caribbean island in the wake of the US military attack on the nation and abduction of President Nicolas Maduro.

Carlos de Cespedes, Cuba’s ambassador to Colombia, told Al Jazeera on Saturday that the US is imposing a “marine siege” on the country.

“Cuba is facing more powerful US threats than it has in the 67 years since the revolution,” de Cespedes said, referring to decades of punishing sanctions and military threats.

“The US is carrying out international piracy in the Caribbean Sea that is restricting and blocking the arrival of oil to Cuba.”

Since US forces abducted Venezuela’s Maduro earlier this month, the flow of oil from the country to Cuba has all but come to a halt.

Venezuela has been the main oil supplier to Cuba in recent decades.

US President Donald Trump said earlier this month that there would be “zero” Venezuelan oil headed to Cuba now that Washington is exerting its influence over Caracas under the threat of further military strikes.

The US has also been intercepting and seizing Venezuelan oil tankers in the Caribbean – a move that critics say amounts to piracy.

“Cuba is ready to fall,” Trump projected on January 5. “Cuba now has no income. They got all of their income from Venezuela, from the Venezuelan oil. They’re not getting any of it. Cuba literally is ready to fall.”

However, Cuba has continued to import oil from other sources, including Mexico.

Trump says UK soldiers in Afghanistan ‘among greatest of all warriors’

UK soldiers in Afghanistan

Donald Trump has praised UK soldiers who fought in Afghanistan after his claim that allied forces avoided the front lines prompted criticism from veterans and politicians.

Earlier this week Trump angered US allies by downplaying the role of Nato troops in the war and doubted whether the military alliance would be there for the US “if we ever needed them”.

Trump’s words drew condemnation from international allies, while Sir Keir Starmer called them “insulting and frankly appalling”.

The UK prime minister spoke to Trump on Saturday, after which the US president used his Truth Social platform to praise UK troops as being “among the greatest of all warriors”.

Trump was criticised for remarks he made during an interview with Fox News on Thursday in which the president said of Nato troops: “We’ve never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them.

“They’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan… and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.”

That triggered a huge backlash from the families of soldiers who served in Afghanistan, as well as veterans and politicians from across the Westminster and international spectrum who called for Trump to apologise.

On Saturday, Downing Street said the prime minister and US president spoke about the UK’s involvement alongside US and Nato forces in the conflict.

A spokesperson said: “The prime minister raised the brave and heroic British and American soldiers who fought side by side in Afghanistan, many of whom never returned home. We must never forget their sacrifice”.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariffs if it ‘makes a deal with China’

0
Trump and Canada Prime Minister Carney

US President Donald Trump has threatened to slap a 100% tariff on Canadian goods if the country strikes a trade deal with China.

“If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.,” Trump said on Truth Social.

It is unclear what deal Trump is referring to in his social media post. Last week, Canada’s Prime Minister Carney announced a “strategic partnership” with China, and agreed to reduce tariffs.

At the time, Trump called the move “a good thing”. But tensions between the US and Canada have grown in recent days, after Carney said in a speech in Davos that the US-led world order had been ruptured.

Carney also urged other “middle powers” to band together in the face of economic coercion by “greater powers”, though he did not mention Trump by name.

Trump responded to the remarks in his own speech the next day, saying: “Canada lives because of the United States.”

The US president also withdrew an invitation for Canada to join his new Board of Peace.

On Saturday, Trump said in his social media post that if Carney “thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken”.

Canada has been seeking to diversify trade away from the US, its largest trade partner, following the uncertainty caused by Trump’s on-again-off-again tariffs.

Under the agreement reached between Carney and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, China will lower levies on Canadian canola oil from 85% to 15% by March, while Canada will tax Chinese EVs at the most-favoured-nation rate, 6.1% – down from 100%.
