NDC account resurrected my viral old tweets –KiDi

KiDi who is still in the news for his old tweets that led to public humiliation has finally opened up on it.

After apologising on social media and asked for forgiveness from those affected, the ‘Touch it’ hitmaker says National Democratic Congress (NDC) Twitter account resurrected those old tweets.

According to the VGMA Artiste of the Year, he initially had no idea where the old tweets came from but investigations revealed that they came from the NDC account.

Speaking in an interview on Angel FM’s which was monitored by The Chronicle, KiDi explained that usually issues of this nature appear when the individual involved has said or done something but in his case he doesn’t know circumstances that led to that.

“Later when we investigated, we realised that it came from an NDC account,” he told host of the show.

“They just went back and started searching for people who have said something about Mahama so that they will give them pressure to say something about Nana Akufo-Addo as well, because when Mahama came you spoke about him but with Akufo-Addo you are silent. It was just political,”KiDi added.

The agenda of the perpetrators was probably to compel him to speak against the current administration just as he criticized ex-President John Mahama but it escalated and “everybody was like KiDi too has said some foolish things before so let’s go dig them out.”

When asked how he has been coping with the incident, he replied that “it has been hard. I won’t lie to you, I don’t want anybody to go through this because it is tough.”

Boat sinks off the Greek Island

The bodies of 16 women and one man have been recovered from waters off the Greek island of Lesbos after a boat carrying people from countries in Africa sank in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Greek coastguard spokesperson Nikos Kokkalas said a large operation spanning various agencies was under way to find other passengers who had been on the dinghy that set sail from Turkey.

“The women were all from African countries, aged 20 upward,” said Kokkalas, who described survivors of the shipwreck as being “utterly panicked”.

At least 15 other people were thought to be missing. Nine had been saved, with at least three rescued from a remote rocky outcrop. “There is a search on land as well as the sea, and we hope that survivors made it to land,” Kokkalas told ERT, Greece’s state-run broadcaster.

The coastguard spokesperson, said the vessel that sank off Lesbos had been “completely destroyed”, and locals described how they watched in horror as the boat crashed into the rocks.

Children killed in mass stabbing and shooting at Thailand preschool

Thirty-eight people have been killed, most of them young children, in an unprecedented gun and knife attack at a preschool centre in north-east Thailand that has horrified the country.

The attacker, a former police officer, opened fire as children were sleeping at the centre in Na Klang district in Nong Bua Lamphu province at about noon on Thursday, police and witnesses said.

Police said most of the children killed at the centre were stabbed to death. As he left the nursery the attacker drove his car towards and shot at bystanders then returned home, where he shot himself, his wife and his child.

Police identified the attacker as Panya Khamrab, a 34-year-old former police lieutenant colonel who had been dismissed from the force last year for methamphetamine possession and had appeared in court earlier on Thursday on a drugs charge.

Witnesses said he was in an agitated state when he arrived at the nursery.

Images from the scene showed a nursery schoolroom, its walls covered in alphabet letters and paintings of animals. The bodies of children lay on sleeping mats, with white sheets placed over them.

Thailand’s prime minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha, said in a statement on Facebook that he offered his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

France slams Iran for publishing ‘confession’ video of ‘hostages’

France president Emmanuel Macron

Iran’s state television has aired what it says are “confessions” by a French couple arrested five months ago, a move the French government is condemning as “shameful, revolting and unacceptable”.

The French man and woman were arrested in May when Iran was on the scene of demonstrations by teachers demanding pay rises and calling for the release of detained colleagues.

The broadcast of their alleged confessions came on Thursday as Iran grappled with a wave of women-led protests that erupted on September 16 following the death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in custody.

Iran has repeatedly accused outside forces of stirring up the protests and last week announced that nine foreign nationals had been arrested.

In Thursday’s video, a woman speaking French and claiming to be Celine Kohler is heard saying that she is an “agent of the DGSE” French intelligence service.

She said the couple were in Iran “to prepare the conditions for the revolution and the overthrow of the Iranian Islamist regime”.

Ukraine accuses Russia of ‘nuclear blackmail’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accuses Russia of “nuclear blackmail”, a day after Moscow and Kyiv sparred over control of the plant. His comments come as the head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog is expected to hold talks in Kyiv on establishing a security zone around the Russian-occupied plant.

He accused Russia of “nuclear blackmail” over its move to take full control of the Zaporizhzhia power plant in southeastern Ukraine.

“[The] capturing of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant [stands] for nuclear blackmail and for exerting pressure on the world and on Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said in a video address to the Sydney-based Lowy think-tank via a translator.

“You’re not using the weapons, but you can still be blackmailing by not having the nuclear power plant working for the people – the people are not receiving the electricity,” he added.

Russia captured the plant in March, shortly after invading Ukraine, and President Vladimir Putin ordered his government on Wednesday to take full control over its operations. The plant is Europe’s largest, and Ukrainian staff have continued to operate it until now despite Russian forces’ occupation of the site.

Mexico mayor assassinated in town hall massacre

Mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeda, assassinated

Gunmen have shot dead the mayor of a small town in western Mexico, and at least 17 others, officials say. Police say gunmen stormed the San Miguel Totolapan town hall at 14:00 (19:00 GMT) on Wednesday. Photos online show it riddled with bullet holes.

Mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeda’s left-wing PRD party condemned his “cowardly” assassination and demanded justice.

The attack has been blamed on the Los Tequileros criminal gang, which is linked to a powerful drug cartel.

Police officers and council workers were also killed in the massacre, with graphic images of bloodied bodies lying on the ground circulating on social media.

Mr Mendoza Almeda’s father, former mayor Juan Mendoza Acosta, was also killed – in his home – before the attack moved to the town hall.

A highway in the state of Guerrero, where San Miguel Totolapan lies, was reportedly briefly blocked by large vehicles to prevent security forces from getting into the city.

It is not yet clear what the motive behind the attack may have been but killings of local officials are not uncommon.
