EBID President urges graduates to profess solutions with knowledge acquired

Dr. George Agyekum Donkor

The President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ecowas Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, has urged graduates to use their knowledge to help create economic solutions.

Delivering the keynote address at the 2022 Graduation Ceremony at the Nobel International Business School (Nibs), the President of EBID was full of praise for the graduands for completing their journey even in the midst of hard times.

According to him, the graduands should be responsible for making use of the knowledge they had acquired to solve problems in the country and the world.

“Mr. Chairman, let me take this opportunity to first of all congratulate the graduands, on their determination and perseverance to go through a rigorous academic discipline. Certainly, they have made very telling sacrifices, some at great personal cost, to come this far.

I am a living testimony of this, and that explains why I am taking my time to acknowledge their efforts.

“To the graduating class, it is my hope that you will leverage the knowledge you have acquired to bring solutions to your immediate surroundings to make our world a better place to live. “Make it your responsibility to lighten rather than compound the burdens of individuals and society as a whole,” said Dr. Agyekum Donkor.

Focusing on the theme “Thriving Under Economic Crisis: The Way Forward,” he stated that the world has been hard hit by what has come to be known as the “twin external shocks” — the pandemic and the war in Ukraine — as the fallout from these events has been obvious and telling.

Referring to attempts by the Bank of Ghana to address inflation through monetary policy rate hikes, he said that was not yielding the expected results.

In his view, there is a need for inflation to be addressed structurally through policy coordination.

“While the monetary policy tweaks are deemed necessary to an extent, it is very important to underline that the cause of inflation is structural and not monetary.

It is critical to focus on resolving the factors that got us here—the supply-side factors – rather than being overly fixated on the monetary factors. This can only be resolved through effective monetary and fiscal policy coordination to resolve the supply-side issues,” Dr. George Nana Agyekum Donkor said.

Insisting that this is not the first time the world has been faced with an economic downturn, he stressed that innovation at this point in time is very key to dealing with the crisis.

He recommended that central banks be less hawkish in increasing the monetary policy rate while urging banks to partner with governments to invest in the growth poles of the economy to facilitate a rebound from the economic downturn.

On Saturday, November 26, the Nobel International Business School (NiBS) held its 2022 doctoral graduation ceremony, with the theme “Thriving in Economic Crisis: The Way Forward.”

At the graduation ceremony, 31 graduands were awarded Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degrees for successfully completing the course.

In an address at the graduation ceremony, the Founder and President of NiBS, Prof. Kwaku Atuahene-Gima, also charged the graduands to put the knowledge and skills they had acquired at the Nobel International Business School to good use to help grow not only their companies, but the communities they live in, and the country at large.

“From today, use your knowledge to innovate to help the country…Innovate for your companies to become better companies, and hopefully the country will become a better country,” Prof. Kwaku Atuahene-Gima urged the graduands.”

After rumours inundated social media about the marriage of Davido and Chioma, latest photos of the couple have confirmed it.

The couple are said to have tied the knot after the sudden demise of their 3-year-old son.

The Nigerian Singer lost his son, Ifeanyi Adelekeon 31st October 2022 when the three-year-old boy allegedly drowned in a private swimming pool at the family’s residence in Lagos.

According to reports, Davido paid the price of Chioma in order for their son to be traditionally recognized as son of the Nigerian musician.

“If he doesn’t marry her, the baby boy won’t be buried as an Adeleke. He will belong to Chioma’s family and will be buried as a Rowland instead. Remember Chioma is Igbo and Davido is Yuroba, so he had to pay his bride price to be able to claim the son,” a source revealed.

Davido and Chioma for the first time were spotted publicly after their son’s death. The couple showed up Sunday morning for the inauguration celebration of David’s Uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as the 6th executive governor of Osun state.

Photos from the ceremony showed the couple had rings on their wedding fingers and this has once again stirred rumours that the lovers indeed tied the knot at private ceremony.

Nigerian blogger, Tunde Ednut, who is close ally to Davido, also posted the photo of Davido and Chioma and highlighted on the ring on their fingers. “Wait! Can you see it?” he captioned the post.

Bomb blast hits Afghan school

At least 10 people have been killed after a bomb blast hit a religious school in northern Afghanistan, the ruling Taliban has said. The blast took place in Aybak in the Samangan province and left many more injured, a spokesperson for the interior ministry told the BBC.

But the death toll remains uncertain, and two provincial officials told the BBC that 17 people died in the blast. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The blast is said to have occurred as people were leaving congregational prayers, and a doctor at the local hospital said most of the victims were students at the school.

“All of them are children and ordinary people,” one doctor was quoted by AFP as saying.

Interior ministry spokesman Abdul Nafee Takkur said the Taliban’s security forces were investigating the attack, and vowed to “identify the perpetrators and punish them for their actions”. Aybak is a historical city that came to prominence as a trading hub and a centre for Buddhists in the 4th and 5th Centuries. It sits around 200 km (130 miles) north of the capital Kabul.

Buckingham Palace aide resigns over remarks to black charity boss

Ngozi Fulani was persistently asked where she was really from

A Buckingham Palace household member has apologised and resigned over “unacceptable comments” made to a black British guest at a reception hosted by the Queen Consort.

Ngozi Fulani, the founder of a charity supporting victims of domestic abuse, says she was repeatedly asked by a royal aide where she was “really from”.

She was asked at the Buckingham Palace event where she was from in Africa.

The palace said it was taking the incident “extremely seriously”.

An eyewitness to the conversation, Mandu Reid, backed the account and told the BBC the questions put to Ms Fulani were “offensive, racist and unwelcoming”.

Ms Reid says she had a “sense of incredulity” about the exchange with a member of the Royal Household, in which Ms Fulani was “interrogated” about where she was from – even though she had explained she was born and lived in the UK. Ms Fulani is the founder of the London-based charity Sistah Space, which supports black women who have faced domestic and sexual abuse. Credit: bbc.com
