Experiencing the true definition of a baptism of fire, Sean Dyche takes charge of Everton for the first time in Saturday lunchtime’s Premier League showdown with leaders Arsenal.
Eighteen places and 35 points separate the two sides at opposite ends of the Premier League table, as the Gunners aim to extend their lead at the summit to eight points.
While Dyche has been handed a whole list of things to fix at Everton, first on the agenda will be trying to snap a four-game losing run in all competitions, and their winless streak now stands at 10 games since a 3-0 win over London opposition in Crystal Palace on October 22.
The Toffees’ Premier League losing streak at Goodison Park also stands at four matches, but they have at least managed to find the back of the net in their last three home contests.
With only the Premier League and Europa League to focus on for the remainder of the campaign, some Gooners have welcomed their early cup eliminations.
Even if Dyche can work some of his defensive magic in the space of a few days, it may only affect the margin of victory for Arsenal, who should end their Goodison Park hoodoo with minimal difficulty.
Facing yet another one of his former clubs, Arteta can expect a smoother ride on Merseyside, as Arsenal take advantage of Everton’s multitude of problems to steer further clear at the summit.
After a hectic ending to the January transfer window for Chelsea, they welcome Fulham to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Friday night.
After the high-profile signings of Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk earlier in January, Chelsea blew those transfers out of the water with a record-breaking fee to bring Enzo Fernandez to the Bridge on deadline day. After spending over £600 million, the Chelsea hierarchy are certainly putting a lot of faith in Graham Potter to turn their fortunes around after a woeful season on the league front especially.
This fixture will be a rematch from the thrilling encounter at Craven Cottage three weeks ago, which saw Fulham win 2-1 as Felix was sent off on debut for Chelsea.
That result left Potter in big trouble as it meant they had gone on a run of just one win in 11 domestic matches. A win over Crystal Palace and a goalless draw at Anfield followed to ease the pressure on the manager, but this is yet another must win match for a club in the media spotlight given their recent spending, who are inexplicably down in 10th.
t will be a night mixed with tension and excitement for Chelsea fans as they could see some of their new faces for the first time, but it will be a difficult assignment facing a very useful Fulham side.
It was evident from the reverse fixture, and from plenty of other matches against bigger sides this season, that Fulham do not fear anybody, and there is scope to suggest they could make it another frustrating night for Potter and Chelsea.
Abubakari Mansura-Killed and Issahaku Yacubu, aka Kanbon Naa, wearing a fake military uniform (on the run)
A suspect who was arrested by the police in connection with the gruesome killing of a Policewoman in Tamale, Corporal Agatha Nana Nabin, but was later freed due to lack of sufficient evidence advice from the Attorney General, is in the news again.
Issahaku Yacubu, aka Kanbon Naa, who is reportedly on the run, is being pursued by the police for allegedly taking part in a factional clash in the Tamale suburb of Gumbihini, which led to the killing of a 22-year old nurse, Abubakari Mansura, in November 2022.
Information obtained from the capital, corroborated by the Regional Police Command sources and the Tamale District Court, indicated that Kanbon Naa, in police’s attempt to arrest him in connection with the death of the nurse, managed to escape from the Tamale Central Hospital, where he was receiving medical attention.
On November 6, 2022 at about 20:00 hours, the Regional Police Command received a distress call to the effect that sporadic gunshots were heard in some areas around Moshie Zongo and Water Works, Gumbihini South, within Tamale.
Police patrols were dispatched to the area and upon arrival found out that the incident took place at three different locations.
The first incident occurred at Moshie Zongo, where a gang numbering about eight, armed with AK47 Assault Rifle, G3 Rifle and pistols attacked and fired indiscriminately into a house.
The second scene was at Gumbihini, about a kilometer from the first scene.
There, a 29-year old woman,Hubaida Hamza, was in her room but sustained gunshot wounds in the thigh and was bleeding profusely.
Police retrieved 12 spent shells of AK 47, 5 spent shells of G3, 9 spent shells of pistol, 3 live AK47 ammunition from both scenes.
On November 10, while Police investigation was ongoing, there was another shooting incident at Gumbihini close, to where the woman sustained injuries in the thigh.
This time, a 22-year old nurse, Abubakari Mansura, who visited her boyfriend, was killed during the sporadic shooting.
It was revealed that the shooting was as a result of a factional clash between Kanbon Naa and his group and another faction led by Issahaku Anas, aka Kanzola.
Police investigation led to the arrest of IssahakuAnas, aka Kanzolai, Yacubu Fatao, Latif Abdul Adam, aka Popo and another, KanbonNaa, who is on the run.
It was said that since the police were already in court with KanbonNaa, where he had been charged with unlawfully possession of military accoutrements, but he always avoided appearing in court with claims of ill-health, the police decided to pick him from the said hospital this time round.
While the police were communicating with the nurses as to he being handcuffed to the bed, he overheard them and quickly removed the drip on his arm and escaped.
The Tamale District Court, upon application from the police, granted a warrant for his arrest.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a number of projects for the Ghana Armed Forces at the Burma Camp. They consist of accommodation facilities, a hospital and a pool of vehicles.
Aside from commissioning and handing over these facilities to the GAF, President Akufo-Addo also cut the sod for three new projects.
They are 2,000 housing units for the Ghana Navy across all garrisons, a general administration block and a wall around all lands of the GAF.
President Akufo-Addo spent his whole day yesterday with the soldiers, visiting various barracks within Burma Camp.
GONDAR BARRACKS
The President recalled that when he was at Burma Camp to hand over some vehicles to GAF in 2019 and 2021, he promised them that more would follow, and yesterday was a fulfilment of that promise.
He commissioned and presented to the GAF 70 Carmas utility vehicles, 20 BTR, 70 armoured personnel carriers, 20 Husky armoured vehicles, 65 assorted Toyota vehicles and a number of communication equipment.
“I have no doubt that these vehicles and equipment will go a long way to help the GAF contain the security threat from violent extremists and terrorist groups operating along our northern borders, other internal security challenges, as well as support external peacekeeping operations,” he said.
GAF UNDER AKUFO-ADDO
The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, indicated in his address that the GAF continues to benefit from the Akufo-Addo government through various interventions to retool and re-equip the force to carry out its mandate amidst threats of aggression.
According to him, combating these threats required real-time surveillance capability, high mobility, force protection and communication “and this is exactly what you and the government have been doing for the GAF.”He assured the president that vehicles and equipment would be properly maintained.
DEPLOYMENT
The Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, told the gathering that these vehicles are to be deployed as part of the northern border project.
The project is an effort to maintain peace and security along the northern borders.
He stated that a quantity of 20 husky vehicles out of the 70 procured has so far been delivered, and the remainder would arrive soon.
He continued that, as part of the government’s efforts to resource the Ghanaian battalion in the United Nations Security Force, the 20 BTR armoured personnel carriers and the 70 carmas utility vehicles have been procured. Some vehicles, he remarked, would be deployed to support security in Bawku.
AIR FORCE BASE
At the Air Force Base, President Akufo-Addo took custody of the 100-bed United Nations Field Hospital, an emergency response centre.
GOVT DEEMED NECESSARY
In a few remarks, President Akufo-Addo said in line with the government’s policy to ensure satisfactory access to healthcare for all, the government deemed it necessary to make arrangements with the UN for the acquisition of the facility.
“This facility is playing such an outstanding part in the nation’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I express, on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, our sincere appreciation to the UN and to the WHO for their confidence in our country that enabled them to situate this facility in Ghana.”
The president is expecting that the GAF put the facility to proper use, not only for Ghanaians but also for patients from outside the country.
COMPONENTS
The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Nsiah Asare, said the facility consists of fully equipped intensive and critical care units, a fully equipped laboratory, laundry, an oxygen plant, two ambulances, and an emergency power system, among others.
ARMED FORCES HEADQUARTERS
At the GAF general headquarters in Burma Camp, President Akufo-Addo commissioned the newly constructed, three-story office complex for the Chief of Defence Staff.
The new building is at the same spot as the previous ministry of defence, where the CDS, the Chief of Staff, also worked.
DETAILS
In his address, President Akufo-Addo indicated that the new structure that has replaced the old one consists of 50 office spaces on three levels, conference rooms, meeting rooms, and coffee rooms, among others.
He said the building is fitted with state-of-the-art furnishings, adding that “this is indeed befitting for the CDS and his staff.”
He commended the immediate past CDS, LT Gen. Obed Boamah Akwa and the current CDS, Vice Admiral Seth Amoamah for their foresight.
DEFENCE MINISTER
The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, said that the initial arrangements signed in 2016 were for a two-storey building, but upon revisiting the deal with the contractor, Gold Key Development Limited, the agreement was varied to have three floors.
He said variations were made, and agreements were signed in 2019 for the office complex under a public-private agreement.
The General Manager of Gold Key Development Limited, Fuseina Abu, said the company was proud to work with the GAF, describing it as “a wonderful and fulfilling journey.”
WASSA
The President ended his long day with the soldiers at their end-of-year WASSA games, where men and women of the GAF wined and dined together after a hectic year of service.
President Akufo-Addo used the occasion to express the gratitude of the nation to the soldiers for risking their lives to protect the country.
He said the joint patrol with the Ghana Police Service and other interventions by the GAF have improved the maintenance of peace and security the nation enjoys.
The president said he has tasked the ministry of defence and the Military High Command with beginning the process of establishing a war college in Ghana this year, and the GETFund has also been tasked with providing the seed money.
As part of the government’s efforts to tackle the accommodation menace of the GAF, the president earlier in the day commissioned a 300-bed facility for young soldiers at the 37 Military Hospitals, sponsored by the Jospong Group of Companies, and later cut sod for the construction of 2,000 housing units for the Navy.
Mr Addai Nimoh declaring his intention to lead NPP
A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Mampong, Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a new face to achieve its most touted “break the 8” mantra.
He said the party needed a presidential candidate who was a “new face” and could appeal to the masses to vote and retain the elephant in power.
“In my opinion, the prevailing circumstances of the party now require a new face as the next presidential candidate. The New Face to Win the 2023 NPP flagbearer election,” he stated.
He made the statement while declaring his intention to run for president on the ticket of the NPP in Accra yesterday.
According to him, a “fresh, new face, who has the needed experience and maturity within both the private and public sectors to bring hope and enthusiastic energy to serve the Ghanaian people, is all that the party needed to win.”
He indicated that the party must go into the next general election as unified front, and that could be achieved by a candidate who could improve and consolidate the gains made over the years, as well as provide equal and equitable opportunities to all their members.
“We want to be well-positioned to gain the trust of voters in the next national elections. As a highly motivated and well-organised team, we believe that we have what it takes to break the 8-year jinx, which has punctuated and – in retrospect – that occasionally brought unnecessary difficulties that have impacted the country in our electoral history since the onset of the fourth Republic,” Ing. Addai-Nimoh said.
He reiterated that the new face must, of necessarily, be a unifier, of unblemished character, have a history of service, and the ability to appeal to the electorates.
The presidential aspirant condemned factions that were emerging in the party, as it would stall their chances of winning the 2024 elections.
Mr Addai Nimoh
“It’s, therefore, crucial for all members to choose a candidate who is a relentless unifier – a leader who is not trapped in any factional exchanges,” he suggested.
Ing. Addai-Nimoh warned that although their main contender, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had shown its readiness to “snatch” power come 2024, without any clear and viable ideas, the NPP must not give chances.
“There is no denying of that fact, as things have been standing till now, that either the NPP or the NDC may be poised to win the 2024 elections. However, with today’s announcement, as you will see over the next few months, we are fuelling a growing movement that is calling for a robust NPP leadership that will renew the party – a renewal that lead the country on a trajectory of prosperity.”
He also called on the NPP delegates to consider a candidate who is legally, physically and mentally fit to lead the party to maintain power.
Ing. Addai-Nimoh who came third in the NPP presidential race in 2014, urged the delegates not to look further than him, since he bore all those characteristics as a new face, unifier, experienced, legally, physical and mentally sound to lead them.
When given the nod, he said, his policies would hinge on education, health, infrastructure, employment and entrepreneurship, telecommunications, fundamental restructuring, accountability and transparency.
He told his audience that he was going into the contest with an inspiration from former President John Agyekum Kofuor, Late President John Atta Mills and the United States of America former President Barack Obama.
One of the party’s founding fathers, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, warned the delegates against false promises, and encouraged them to vote for the candidacy of Ing. Addai-Nimoh.
He alleged that failure on the part of the delegates not voting for Ing. Addai-Nimoh would lead to a bitter regret.
Background
Francis Addai-Nimoh studied Civil Engineering, obtaining his BSc Honours from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1993. Then, like now, fueled by his passion for professional transparency, he remains an incorruptible practical listener and pragmatic visionary for impactful socio-economic outcomes.
Early in his professional life, as a civil engineer, along with other responsibilities later undertaken in government administration and private enterprise, his varied experience has helped guide his different endeavours to achieve optimal efficiencies, while always striving to contribute to improving daily life in Ghana.
Francis had initially worked for a few engineering firms, gaining experience in data collection, road design, contract specification and construction supervision, bitumen production, and organizing training sessions to improve standards.
In 2004, the Ministry of Roads and Highways hired Addai-Nimoh as a senior engineer, tasking him with monitoring and evaluating all Government of Ghana road projects. These responsibilities offered him the opportunity to become increasingly familiar with the extensive geography and resources across the length and breadth of Ghana. Here he continued to develop an extended network with a wide variety of people actively involved in their communities, while enhancing his cross-cultural sensitivities towards the nation’s diversity.
Francis Addai-Nimoh, member in good standing of the Ghana Institution of Engineers, also holds an Executive Masters degree in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (2009). Previously, he had acquired knowledge and skills in International Procurement from the International Law Institute, Washington (2004), also learning Program and Project Management at RIPA, London (2006), and enhancing his Negotiation Skills, Contract Management and Administration at the Ghana Institution of Engineers (2005).
He has enjoyed developing leadership skills as far back as his school days, being elected to serve as Scripture Union President at Navrongo Secondary, Scripture Union President and Assistant Senior Prefect at Kumasi High School, and Students Representative Council President at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Addai-Nimoh’s first general elections campaign had him elected as Member of Parliament in 2008 for the Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti region, serving with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) until 2017. During this rise to prominence, he gained relevant knowledge and political insight while continuing to extend his network, namely by taking on a leadership role serving as Ranking Member of Parliament on the Select Committee on Environment, Science and Technology (2013-2017).
Although fairly unknown at first at that time, Addai-Nimoh ran in the 2014 NPP flag-bearer leadership race and placed 3rdout of 7 candidates, when President Nana Akufo-Addo became head of the NPP.
Since taking leave from government in 2017, Addai-Nimoh became Managing Director at Franstan Limited that he had established, overseeing construction projects and other endeavours involving the general distribution of supplies, namely bitumen.
Also propelled by his life-long dedication to charitable initiatives, as Chair of the Francis Addai-Nimoh Foundation (FAN Foundation), he also persistently championed impactful projects in education, food security and poverty elimination.
Addai-Nimoh is now READY, encouraged by a wide-range of country-wide support, to announce his bid for the leadership of the NPP and to serve as President of Ghana for a renewal that is to benefit all Ghanaians!
In a space of seven months, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has upwardly adjusted tariffs for medicines and services covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The latest increment, effective February 1, 2023 was agreed in consultation with the Ministry of Health, the NHIA Governing Board, Executive Management and other critical stakeholders in the health sector.
This development justifies the NHIA’s crusade against illegal fees (Copayments) charged by some healthcare service providers for services covered by the NHIS.
A statement issued by the Corporate Affairs Directorate said that framework medicines have been increased by 50% plus an additional 30% marginal increase.
According to the statement, Non-Framework Medicines have been reviewed upwards by 20%, while service tariffs across board have been increased by 10 percent.
The statement further explained that Artemether Injection 80mg/ml and Levofloxacin Infusion 500mg/ml have been added to the NHIS Medicines List and will immediately be reimbursed by the Scheme.
The NHIA implored all credentialed service providers and the general public to take note of these adjustments activated to correspond to the observed increase in prices of most Active
Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).
The last increment of tariffs for medicines and services was done in July 2022, following series of stakeholder engagements.
Copayments Committee
The NHIA, in August, 2022 established a nine-member Copayments Committee to investigate persistent illegal fees charged by some credentialed healthcare service providers at various health facilities.
As the NHIS major impediment, Copayment is the situation where holders of NHIS valid cards are compelled to pay for services and medicines covered by the Scheme at the point of need.
The NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, on several occasions served notice that healthcare providers caught in the Co-payments deal would have their licenses revoked.
He said the Authority was committed to abolish the practice and urged all credentialed healthcare providers to be patriotic.
According to the Auditor-General’s report, Ghana benefited greatly from an unprecedented influx of funds from a variety of sources, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Africa Development Bank, the European Union, the Contingency Fund and the sale of Bank of Ghana (BoG)-COVID-19 Bonds, among others, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study calculates that these monies totalled GH¢21,844,189,185.24.
Despite these funds, the report noted that only GH¢11,750,683,059.11 of the total GH21.8 billion that accrued to the Government of Ghana was spent on COVID-19 operations, with the remaining – exactly GH¢10, 093,506,126.13 – being used for “budget support.”
It also revealed that the Head Office of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) used funds meant to be expended on Covid-19 activities to pay for security services, purchase of curtains and prepaid units, as well as other unrelated activities. The The Auditor-General’s report also details how the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Health, paid an amount of US$607,419.02 in the year 2022 for the supply of 26 Toyota Hiace Deluxe Ambulances valued at a total cost of US$4,049,460.12.
The Chronicle is of the view that funds released to help in the fight against the pandemic were supposed to be used exactly for that purpose. The institutions which violated their obligations should not be allowed to go scot-free, but rather be held accountable and made to make a full refund of the monies misapplied.
We are serving this notice, because anytime state officials are caught in the misapplication of funds allocated for an activity they are made to go scot-free.
It is important that the government must not whitewash this audit report and sweep it under the carpet. These state officials are seen as leaders and are, therefore, obliged to live by example for others to follow.
A similar situation occurred in Malawi when the President of that country dismissed his Labour Minister, Ken Kandodo, along with 19 other officials. The offense committed by Ken Kandodo was that he spent less than $800 of the COVID-19 Fund on travel expenses for the President and himself to South Africa.
According to the Corruption Perception Index 2022, Ghana is the 72 least corrupt nation out of 180 countries, tied with Hungary, Kuwait, Senegal and the Solomon Islands. Even though corruption in Ghana is relatively low when compared to other countries in Africa, businesses frequently quote corruption as an obstacle for doing business in the country. This is undebatable, because corruption has reared its ugly head in the country over decades.
We are not doomsayers, but advising that in future when money is given to government agencies to undertake any activity, there must be guidelines or instructions on how it should be spent. To make this successful, there should also be mechanisms in place to monitor that the funds are used for exactly what they are meant for.
The paramount chief the Nkusumkum Traditional Area, Nana Okesse Essa-ndoh IX
The paramount chief of the Nkusumkum Traditional Area, Nana Okesse Essandoh IX, has refuted claims that a gay activist, Mr Mac Davis Iyalla, has been installed as a ceremonial chief.
Nana Essandoh, who is also the president of the Nkusukum traditional council has, therefore, cautioned that Mr Iyalla, also known as Nana Kweku Adu, could not be recognised as a ceremonial chief.
According to him, though they triggered the processes to bestow the ceremonial title on him, they later became aware of his dealings as LGBTQ+ activist and halted the process immediately.
Reacting to the wide spread issue at a news conference on Monday, this week, Nana Essandoh explained that the decision to bestow the “Amankorahen” title on the alleged gay activist was borne out of good intentions.
He explained further that the supposed gay activist was introduced to him by some friends in Cape Coast as Nana Kweku Adu, who was noted for his drive for development.
In view of this, he indicated that the development chief title was to be conferred on him to enable him to “organise the Africa-American natives in the diaspora” to Yamoransa.
The purported Africa-American natives, he said “had recently traced their ancestry back to Yamoransa and had been given Ghanaian Native Names”.
However, during the processes to officially install him as Amankorahen of Yamoransa, it was gathered that he was not just a human rights activist, but a gay rights promoter as well.
“It was during the process of his installation as Amankorahen (Nkosuahen) that the information came that Kweku Adu is also known as Mr Davies Mac Iyalla and has been supporting LGBTQI+ and its related activities,” he disclosed.
He continued that “Immediately this information came to our attention, we called for the whole process of Mr Mac Iyalla to be halted”.
Following the revelation, Nana Okesse Essandoh stated categorically that all the other processes and rites that were expected to be performed to complete the conferment were ceased.
This means that Nana Kweku Adu alias Mr Mac Davies Iyalla has not been installed as a ceremonial chief neither has any title been conferred on him and, therefore, he could not be recognised as such.
Rev. Wisdom Kofi Anane of the Pentecostal Global Fire Ministry receiving his Bachelor in Theology and Ministerial Sustainability certificate
The Global Christ-Like Leadership Bible College and Seminary of the Global Council of Christ-like Ministers worldwide has held its 2nd Graduation and Ordination ceremony at the Presbyterian Church at Oduom near Kumasi.
Located at Kentinkrono near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Seminary runs pastoral courses in partnership with Morris Cerullo Legacy School of Ministry, the Lancaster Theological University, and Atlantic Coast Theological Seminaries of the USA.
In all, 20 students graduated and obtained degrees and diplomas in theology.
Apostle Dr. Edward Agyemang, an International Evangelist, in a goodwill message, explained that the lifestyles of some “so-called Men of God” were questionable, because most behavoral lifestyles were a result of upbringing.
He said bible school training gave the beneficiaries the leverage to apply the training to their lives and not meant to let them (pastors) “know everything”, emphasising that most pastors had the wrong perception of the real ‘Ministry of Christ’, and, therefore, shift the focus from Christ onto themselves.
Apostle Dr. Agyemang observed that it was only the pastoral work which had all other professionals involved, and admonished the graduands to submit themselves totally to their head pastors and church leaders.
Rev. Dr. Peter Watson, President of the College, disclosed that the Ghana campus of the school started in Kumasi some 13 months ago, and that two other campuses had been opened in Sierra Leone and Zambia within the period, and the focus was to train pastors who were prepared to “plant the Gospel” and establish it in the rural or remote areas of the country.
Nana Kwaku Okyere Ababio, Okyerekromhene and Board Chairman of the school, suggested that there should be general clean-up exercises, floats and visits to inmates of prisons and orphanages during subsequent graduation ceremonies.
Chief Dramani Karim Gauso, Chief of Gauso, a suburb of Obuasi in the Obuasi West Municipality, has affirmed the determination and readiness of Nananom and stakeholders of the community to weed out criminals in the area.
Speaking at a community durbar to brief the members about recent attacks by a gang on some of the residents, Chief Karim disclosed that there had been a reported long standing feud between a group of young men in Gauso and their counterparts at Tutuka and other areas in Obuasi.
According to him, the people of Gauso were not violent, contrary to the perception among a cross-section of the people of Obuasi.
The durbar was aimed at affording the Chief and other stakeholders the opportunity to sensitise the people, especially the youth, to stay out of trouble.
Last week, a group of young men wielding guns allegedly from Estate, also a suburb of Obuasi, attacked residents of Gauso in what was suspected to be a reprisal attack.
The incident led to one person being injured, and properties destroyed.
This, he said, had resulted in the loss of innocent souls, while others suffered various degrees of injuries. The development, he said, compelled him, as Chief of the area, to meet with his people to admonish them to stay out of crime activities and other violent behaviour, since he had resolved not to shield anybody involved in such acts.
Nana Dramani Karim stressed that the residents of Gauso would not allow any individual or group of persons to drag the name of the community into the mud, because it had the potential of scaring away people from visiting the area, and could even affect the youth in securing jobs.
As a result, he intimated that the community had formed a taskforce to complement the efforts of the Unit Committee to fish out criminal elements that had been fomenting trouble in the area.
Chief Karim called on the stakeholders and Nananom of the community to resolve against pleading on behalf of recalcitrant persons or groups who would be arrested by the police.
According to the Chief, the police acted swiftly by arresting three members of the group and were currently facing trial.
Alhaji Yunusah Baba Iddrisu Ouro-ifa II, Chief of Adansi Kotokoli, also lamented on bad press reports, which the community had been attracting. He stressed that Gauso was not a violent community, and appealed to the residents to demonstrate good behaviour to vindicate the claim.
He advised the residents not to shield any criminal in the community and urged them to go by the “if you see something, say something” mantra, and entreated them to report any criminal activities to the police.
The Assembly Member for the area, Dauda Tahiru, was of the view that it was about time the youth realised the enormity of the bad name the community had been associated with.
He charged the youth to acquire employable skills and stay out of trouble.
The youth also pledged to abide by the advice of their elders, and disclosed that most of the people who committed the crimes in the area were not indigenes of Gauso, but hiding behind the name to perpetuate their criminal activities.
