Protest after Quran burning

Three men have been arrested in connection with a violent riot following a Quran burning in Sweden. Unrest erupted after an Iraqi anti-Islam activist Salwan Momika set fire to a copy of the Islamic holy book on Sunday.

Police said they detained 10 people for disturbing public order in the city of Malmo.

Several vehicles were set on fire after about hundred people gathered in response to the burning.

Mr Momika set fire to a Quran in Varnhemstorget, a main square in the city on Sunday afternoon. He has previously desecrated the Quran, in a series of anti-Islam protests, and his actions have caused diplomatic outrage across the Middle East.

A group of angry protesters tried to stop the burning, which resulted in a showdown between them and police.

Officers said they were pelted with stones, while some demonstrators threw electric scooters at police vehicles.

Several police cars were set on fire in Malmo’s Rosengard neighbourhood, which has a a large immigrant population, and has experienced other violent protests in the past.

Nollywood star calls out Ghanaian TV channels showing her film without permission

Ruth Kadiri

Nigerian filmmaker and producer Ruth Kadiri has threatened legal action against Ghanaian TV stations that broadcast her movies without her permission or any authorisation.

In a video that has gone viral, the actress stated that although she loves Ghana and appreciates the support, she is disappointed to see her intellectual property rights infringed upon.

Ruth Kadiri noted that she has seen this trend numerous times and contemplated watermarking her work as a result but decided against it.

She stressed that making films was expensive and not a walk in the park and thus could not have her creative efforts undermined.

The Nigerian filmmaker stated that she would appreciate it if TV stations desist from this or face the consequences.

Ruth Kadiri said that the next TV station that she infringes on her copyrights would hear from her lawyers.

“I love the country as a whole but I am very disappointed that a major TV station in Ghana would go on my platform, rip my content apart, show it on TV like they have the license to do that.”

“It is not even just one, not two, not three. I don’t want to put a watermark on my contents because I feel like it’s going to make it look tacky. This is the first warning and it is going to be the last one, because the next time, you’re going to hear from my lawyers.”

“I beg you, let’s not start dragging ourselves through the mud. I expect so much from you because you know how expensive it is to create content and instead of you to buy this content, you would rather rip it and show it on national TV,” she said.

China’s leader Xi Jinping

China on Monday indicated that leader Xi Jinping would skip an important gathering of the world’s 20 top economies for the first time with Premier Li Qiang traveling to the event in New Delhi this weekend in his place.

Xi’s absence from the G20 Summit comes as tensions simmer between China and host country India over their disputed border and New Delhi’s growing ties with the United States.

Questions about Xi’s attendance at the meeting were first raised last week when Reuters reported the Chinese leader was likely to miss it, citing two unnamed Indian diplomats.

At a regular news conference Monday, China’s Foreign Ministry said Li would attend the summit on Saturday and Sunday, without mentioning Xi.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the ministry, sidestepped a question from a reporter about the reason for Xi’s non-attendance – which would be the first time China top’s leader has missed a G20 Summit.

Speaking on Angel FM, he reminisced, “When I was a student, I had a passion for athletics. Those who knew me during my time at Holy Family in Mataheko were aware that I was an athlete. Unfortunately, the Senior High School I attended was new, so I couldn’t pursue athletics there.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, left, meets with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have held talks on Ukrainian grain exports at the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Monday’s meeting came nearly two months after Russia quit a UN- and Turkey-brokered agreement that allowed Ukraine to export grain and other commodities from three of its Black Sea ports during the war with Russia.

Erdogan said after talks that it would soon be possible to revive the deal.

“As Turkey, we believe that we will reach a solution that will meet the expectations in a short time,” he said.

On his part, Putin said at a news conference with Erdogan that Russia was ready to return to the deal “as soon” as restrictions on its own exports were lifted.

Russia and Ukraine are two of the world’s biggest agricultural producers and key players in the wheat, barley, corn, rapeseed, rapeseed oil, sunflower seed and sunflower oil markets.

Comparison between Ghanaian and Nigerian Artistes doesn’t make sense  –Anne-Sophie Avé

A former French ambassador to Ghana, Anne-Sophie Ave has expressed her dislike of the comparison made by fans of Ghanaian and Nigerian artists.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, she said that Ghanaian music lovers should be objective and have a view that Nigeria is opening the doors of Africa through afrobeats.

“The comparison doesn’t make sense, yes, it is afrobeats, but let’s look at it like Nigeria is paving the way, is opening the doors for the entire Africa continent.”

She also added that the size of the Nigerian population has also played a major factor, in getting them the numbers and their reach.

“250 million Nigerians and you know when the music is good numbers don’t matter, It helps because when you come to a country that has 250 million citizens it is easy to hit a million and therefore make money and go out there.”

The French Diplomat also explained that Ghanaian artists have to focus on promoting themselves across the continent and globally.

“Is just about promotion, is about being pushed in the media not only in Ghana, it’s great to use the diasporas everywhere in the world, because they are a point of entry into the country, but you have to go beyond that, and conquer the entire country.”

The Potential Health Benefits of Hickory Nuts

0
Hickory Nuts

Hickory nuts are a type of tree nut that is native to North America. They are typically oval or oblong in shape and have a hard, woody shell. The nuts can be eaten raw, roasted, or ground into a flour. Hickory nuts are a good source of protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

They also contain vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, hickory nuts have been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. There are a few potential health benefits associated with consuming hickory nuts.

For example, they may help improve blood sugar control, reduce cholesterol levels, and boost cognitive function. Additionally, hickory nuts may promote weight loss and protect against heart disease and cancer.

If you’re looking for a nutritious snack that can offer some potential health benefits, hickory nuts are a good option to consider. Just be sure to limit your intake to a handful or two per day, as they are relatively high in calories.

Hickory nuts, in addition to calming nerves, increasing metabolism, protecting the kidneys, gaining weight, increasing circulation, and ensuring healthy growth and development, are also thought to be beneficial in cardiovascular health.

Because you may be allergic to this type of nut, you should consult with your doctor before starting to consume it. Animal and vegetable protein, as well as complex carbohydrates, should be consumed by the body in large quantities.

Because of the Vitamin B6 found in Hickory Nut, our bodies can reduce the amount of protein consumed. The average serving of hickory nuts contains more than 5 grams of carbohydrates. When you put them to use, you’ll get a lot of energy to do your daily tasks.

After eating a Hickory nut, you can eat it immediately, right out of the shell, or for many months in a cool, dry place. It is a Native American porridge made of the nuts of the shagbark hickory trees, and it is where the term hickory comes from.

It is possible to consume these sweet and fatty nut meats as raw food by picking them up from the shell. If you prefer, cook the nut meat in water until it becomes a porridge, just as hickory (from which it derives its name) does.

Are Hickory Nuts Fattening?

There is no one answer to this question as it depends on a variety of factors, including the person’s individual metabolism and activity level. Generally speaking, however, hickory nuts are not considered to be fattening.

They are a good source of protein and healthy fats, and can actually help to promote weight loss by keeping you feeling fuller for longer.

There are three types of hickory nuts: red hickory, oval or pear-shaped nuts, and pignut hickory. There are many different types of nuts in the United States, but hickory nuts are one of the most common.

The southeastern states have populations of these birds, whereas the north has populations in Michigan and Wisconsin. The hickory nut is a type of nut grown in the United States. The hickory nut is a type of nut native to the United States.

The best way to eat raw hickory nuts is to first remove the husk. You can do this by soaking the nuts in water for a few hours, then using a nutcracker or your fingers to remove the husk. Once the husk is off, the nuts can be eaten raw or roasted.

To roast hickory nuts, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and roast for about 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Hickory nuts are quite tasty, but some varieties taste better than others. Some native species include the mockernut, pignut, shagbark, and bitternut hickory. To open the nuts individually, a heavy-duty nutcracker, vise, or hammer are all good options.

Despite the fact that hickories can be found all over Staten Island, the most common sites are in Greenbelt and Arden Heights Woods.

Hickory lumber is used to make things like ax handles and baseball bats. In addition to making good firewood, it produces a fragrant smoke when burned. Hickory trees have a very difficult wood. Other trees that produce edible nuts include hickories and walnuts.

Sancho says he is ‘a scapegoat’ after being dropped by Man United coach

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho says he has been “a scapegoat for a long time” after Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag said he was dropped for Sunday’s game at Arsenal because of poor training performance.

The England forward did not travel to Emirates Stadium for the game, which United lost 3-1.

Ten Hag said Sancho had not reached the “level” required to be included.

“Please don’t believe everything you read,” Sancho wrote on social media.

“I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself very well in training this week.

“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

Sancho, 23, moved to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021.

However, he has struggled for consistent form and has scored nine league goals and provided just six assists in his 58 appearances.

Explaining his decision not to pick Sancho for his squad to travel to Arsenal, Ten Hag said: “Jadon, on his performances in training we did not select him. You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game he was not selected.”

Sancho insisted he would continue to fight for his place at the club, adding: “All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

“I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so, which I know every week is a challenge.

In February, Ten Hag spoke of his pride in “magnificent” Sancho after the winger made a goalscoring return to the Premier League.

He had spent three months battling physical and mental issues, with Ten Hag at one point saying the England international was not fit enough to play.

Al-Ittihad delegation in London to push for £200m Mohamed Salah

A Saudi Arabian delegation arrived in London on Saturday as they make one last push to persuade Liverpool to sell Mohamed Salah this week.

The public message from Anfield and Jurgen Klopp, in particular, has been loud and clear that the Egyptian is not for sale and is happy at Liverpool.

An offer around £150million was dismissed last Thursday night and his performance against Aston Villa on Sunday underlined the player’s commitment to the cause.

As Klopp underlined: ‘I never had any doubt about his commitment. He is our player and wants to play here.’

However, the Saudis will push their offer towards £200million over the next 48 hours in the belief Salah would be open to joining Al-Ittihad.

Their deadline closes on Thursday and some within the Saudi camp say they may draw a line and switch targets if there is no semblance of joy by Tuesday. But others insist they will push to the end.

There was a very real prospect that Salah’s old adversary Sergio Ramos would be at Al-Ittihad also but the Spain veteran is poised to join his former club Sevilla after turning up to sign yesterday.
