My prophecy was about Sherif Black, not Black Sherif –Nigel Gaisie

Nigel Gaisie and Black Sherif

Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the leader of the True Word Prophetic Fire Ministries, has clarified a recent prophetic vision he shared on social media regarding a potential doom for a public figurewas about a Ghanaian star named Sherif Black, not Black Sherif.

In his original post, Prophet Nigel had urged the family of “Sheriff Black” to pray for him and have a deep conversation with him, expressing concern about something he had seen regarding the individual’s life.

“Let the family of *Sheriff Black*…PRAY FOR HIM AND TALK TO HIM DEEPLY, I DIDN’T LIKE WHAT I SAW ABOUT HIM SOME FEW MINUTES AGO…..Life Is PRICELESS. I saw the mother crying uncontrollably *** (if nothing is done about this, Ghana will not hear good news before December)”

He emphasized the importance of taking such prophetic messages seriously and acting upon them.

During a phone discussion on UTV Showbiz Night, Prophet Nigel elaborated on his revelation, stating that prophetic visions can often be figurative and may not provide a clear picture of the situation.

However, he urged people to discern the urgency of such messages and take action accordingly.

“Prophetic revelations usually appear figuratively, it sometimes gives you the blurry picture of it but if you are wise, you will deduce the urgency from it and work towards it regardless of how direct the vision comes

“Over the years when we come out as prophets to speak revelations, the same industry people slam and castigate us disrespectfully. last year I made a revelation about Morocco’s disaster, I was insulted but here we are now seeing it for ourselves, the Same revelation about the IGP and the rise against him, don’t we see it now? I also had a revelation about the Gabon coup and just at 24hrs it came to pass so when someone like me is making such revelations it is just wise for reasonable people to rise and fight against it.

“I don’t add nor subtract from my revelation, I say it as it is so if you are wise take it and work your salvation towards it. My prayer warriors and I are matching in prayers to seek grace and mercy but whoever this prophesy concerns should wake up and wear the armor of prayer. prophesy doesn’t come to scar but to alert so let’s be on guard and pray for life”

Prophet Nigel stressed that prophesies are not meant to harm but to alert, and he called on individuals to be vigilant and pray for their lives in response to such messages.

Media advised to be cautious when promoting herbal products

A section of the audience at the forum

The media has been called to exercise caution when promoting herbal products in order to protect public health and safety.

A forum on “Media and Herbal Medicine Advertising”, organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) in Accra on Thursday, revealed that advertising played a significant role in influencing the public to use herbal medicines, even those not approved by the regulatory bodies like the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

A documented investigation by the Fourth Estate, a project by the MFWA, revealed that some media outlets advertised herbal medicines without proper investigations to find out whether it had been approved by the FDA and its safety for human consumption.

Out of the eight leading media houses in four regions approached to promote a fictitious product (Macofa Herbal Mixture), only two, Accra-based Peace FM and Ghanaian Times, insisted on its authenticity by demanding FDA approval before advertising. The rest went ahead with the advertisements by endorsing the product on their various mediums without verifying its efficacy, once the advertisement fee was paid.

Reacting to the exposé, the Deputy Minister of Health, Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini, emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders to standardize the sector, given that 80% of development countries, including Ghana now relies on herbal medicines in treating various illnesses, according to reports by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The documentary he said did not only affirm the already existing suspicions on how poorly functioned the regulatory systems are, not only in the herbal space, but also the entire health sector and the advertising industry.

“This shows the severity of the problem we have on our hands and calls for a swifter regulatory in the herbal medicine industry” he added.

He stressed the media’s responsibility in advertising health products and urged them not to abuse their influence for promoting products and services, especially when it comes to health related products.

“The government is committed to ensuring that all medicines, including herbal, sold in Ghana are safe, and effective for use by the public,” adding that “it also includes ensuring that commercials run for these products reflects its use and conform to all laid down safety protocols” He explained.

“The government through the Ministry of Health have taken a keen interest in this documentary, and will launch and immediate investigations into key revelations in the documentary” Alhaji Mahama said.

The Traditional Medicines Practice Council, responsible for registering and endorsing traditional medicine practitioners, was also implicated for not following due process in the licensing of the fake manufacturing company.

Samuel Asante-Boateng, Director of Drugs and Herbal Medicine Regulation at the FDA, emphasized the importance of FDA permits before advertising herbal products.

“Even when your product has been registered, you cannot advertise a product until the advert has been approved by the FDA.” He said.

He explained the rigorous testing process products undergo before receiving FDA approval.

Dr. Asante-Boateng therefore advised anyone approached with a herbal medication for advertising to insist on an FDA permit to maintain industry standards.

GNS Foundation organises Sickle Cell screening for students

Founder of GNS Foundation, Sandra Amponsah Ayivor

The Gibeleen and Sandra (GNS) Foundation, a non-governmental organisation specialising in sickle cell management and associated haematological diseases, has organised screening for students.

The Sickle Cell screening was conducted for over a hundred students of the La Bawaleshie Adventist Preparatory School and its residents.

The screening exercise was in commemoration of the World Sickle Cell Awareness Month to highlight the devastating nature of the disease and some preventive care to minimise the impact.

The Foundation also partnered Sales Support Africa to provide wheelchairs, sanitisers, and Veronica buckets during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dignitaries seated at the event

According to the Founder of GNS Foundation, Sandra Amponsah Ayivor, the Foundation observed this year’s awareness month with the objective of screening over 100 students, including some residents for free.

She continued that her outfit was not just screening the students and residents, but also creating massive awareness on the devastating effects of the diseases.

“We have witnessed the massive effect of sickle cell disease and how it can prevent the younger generation from reaching their potential in life.

“You would agree with me that a nation develops and moves to greater heights when its citizens are healthy holistically. Our impact today is a step in the right direction,” she said.

Madam Sarah further indicated that since the inception of the Foundation in 2013, it had embarked on a number of projects including the donation to a sickle cell clinic, blood donation exercises, and planting of trees in honour of fallen heroes.

Senior Medical Officer and Sickle Cell Specialist, Dr. Sylvester Annan Mensah, highlighted the need for the government to prioritise the treatment of sickle cell through supporting NGOs structured to sensitise communities about the significance of the disease.

He urged persons with sickle cell condition to frequent the clinic for check-ups adding, “Per- sons who have not yet checked their status are encouraged to visit the clinic for a check up as it is important to know your genotype to save you from the devastating pains of being a sickle cell patient.”

Champions League group stage matches kick-off today

Manchester City are the defending Champions

City begin Champions League defence against Red Star Belgrade

Champions League holders Manchester City begin the defence of their continental crown when they welcome Red Star Belgrade to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola‘s troops defeated West Ham United 3-1 on Saturday to maintain their 100% league start to the season, while Red Star were beaten 2-1 by Cukaricki in the Serbian SuperLiga. A few months after finally attaining European supremacy against Inter Milan, City look to start their Champions League defence with a positive performance and result.

The visitors have a clean bill of health heading into their game with the European champions, giving Bakhar the full complement of his squad.

The Red Star boss has started a back four and back three this season but is expected to utilise the latter against Guardiola’s men.

It is hard to see anything other than a straightforward victory for Guardiola’s men at the Etihad as they seek to start their Champions League defence with maximum points.

Milan are slight favourites over Newcastle at the San Siro

Dining at Europe’s top table for the first time in 20 years, Newcastle United‘s 2023-24 Champions League baptism sees the Magpies meet seven-time winners AC Milan at San Siro in Tuesday’s Group F battle.

Sandro Tonali, Newcastle

An imminent European sojourn may have been playing on the minds of Newcastle United during their miserable run of results, as the Magpies gear up for their first Champions League match since the summer of 2003.

Back in the days of two group stages in 2002-03, Newcastle did make a San Siro stopover to meet Inter, where an Alan Shearer brace was in vain as the Nerazzurri came back to draw 2-2, but Tuesday’s game will mark their first competitive meeting with Milan before Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund await later on in a mouthwatering Group F.

Blessed with much more continental nous than their English foes, Pioli’s side – who will welcome Tomori back to the first XI with open arms – ought to find their way past a Newcastle backline susceptible to defensive mishaps, although Howe’s men should still give a good account of themselves in Milan.

Milan are slight favourites to open their European campaign with a maximum and spoil Newcastle’s San Siro party.

PSG welcome Dortmund in top of the pick game

The bright lights of the Parc des Princes will shine down on one of Tuesday’s headline Champions League openers, as Paris Saint-Germain welcome German giants Borussia Dortmund to the French capital in Group F.

The two continental behemoths were drawn against one another in this year’s group of death, where Newcastle United and seven-time winners AC Milan are also vying for the top two spots.

PSG players

For the fourth time in four years, a new face will be commencing PSG’s latest bid for Champions League supremacy, which Thomas TuchelMauricio PochettinoChristophe Galtier and all those before them failed to deliver.

Former Barcelona treble winner Luis Enrique has assumed office as he bids to repeat his Champions League success with the Blaugrana in 2015, but rather than hit the ground running in the French capital, he has led PSG to their worst points total at the start of a season since their Qatari takeover.

Aiming to knock a few more walls of the Parc des Princes fortress down is a Dortmund side.

The Parc des Princes may have lost its fear factor in 2023, but PSG have still managed at least two goals in each of their last three contests, and a fired-up Mbappe can always be relied on to terrorise opposing defences.

The anticipated returns of Ugarte and Marquinhos will also add a layer of steel to the Parisiens’ XI, but Dortmund’s in-form attackers should still have a glint in their eyes and can claim a point for their side in what promises to be a captivating clash.

Lazio host Atletico Madrid in high-profile Group E clash

Kicking off Champions League Group E with a high-profile clash in Rome, Lazio and Atletico Madrid meet at Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday evening.

While the hosts are back among Europe’s elite for the first time since 2021, Atleti are mainstays in the continent’s top club competition – but they were eliminated in the group stage last season.

Ciro Immobile, Lazio

Rewarded for their consistency at the end of last term, Lazio slipped past several other contenders to finish distant runners-up to Italian champions Napoli, securing a return to Champions League football after dipping their toes in both the Europa League and third-tier Conference League.

Heading into a much-anticipated Group E campaign, in which Celtic, Feyenoord and this week’s visitors Atletico Madrid will be their rivals for a top-two finish, Lazio sit on just three points from four Serie A matches and have conceded at a rate approaching two goals per game.

Both teams have suffered tough defeats following the international period, so confidence will not be sky-high in either camp. Lazio’s sluggish start to the new season has come as something of a surprise, but their defensive instability could see Atletico sneak a valuable first-day away win.

Feature: Free SHS, 7 years on; Progress, Peril and Prospects.  A pioneer beneficiary’s account

0
President Akufo-Addo and Vice president Bawumia unveiling Free SHS Logo

The promise of Free SHS became a hot cake and a political talk carried by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 general elections.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in all of these three consecutive elections did not back down on his promise of Free SHS.

Many Ghanaians, most especially members of the other side of the political divide, were skeptical of that dream and political promise of the NPP. With time, that’s after the NPP had lost both the 2008 and 2012 general elections, it still remained vocal about Free SHS in all the years that they were in opposition.

The citizenry bought into their dream when the promise still remained instrumental in their 2016 manifesto and campaign promise. I can only conclude that Ghanaians bought into the idea of Free SHS because the NPP had been consistent with it in all the elections.

While the then ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a section of Ghanaians argued the policy ought to be implemented in a progressive or gradual manner, the NPP insisted on an instant implementation of the policy.

The argument of the Free SHS policy, I could say, determined the winner of the 2016 general election. Many electorates did not buy into the ruling party’s idea of a progressively Free SHS but sided with the NPP’s idea of instant Free SHS. Even though Free SHS is an entrenched provision in the 1992 constitution of Ghana (Article 25), there’s no clear direction and advice on how to implement this constitutional provision.

The onus therefore lay on the political parties seeking to implement this policy to think through how best the policy could be implemented to benefit all the citizenry. I should say once again that I think the NPP won the 2016 elections because they rode on the horse of Free SHS.

I was in my final year at Junior High School in 2016 and preparing to write my Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in June 2017. Even though I didn’t have a vote in the December 2016 elections, I had talked to by my parents to vote for the party that says Free SHS now and not later, because I was exiting JHS and would be due for Senior High School in September 2017 when the 2017/18 academic will begin.

I believe many JHS students like myself were also hoping the electorates vote for the party whose ideology about Free SHS implementation was now and not later. Eventually, the NPP had an empathic and decisive victory in the 2016 elections. The euphoria which accompanied the NPP’s electoral victory of 2016 was a never-seen-before one. It was like Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The electoral victory of the NPP in 2016 meant a lot to Ghanaians. What it meant to me as a JHS student about exiting school was to have free entry and access to Senior High School education in Ghana.

It was a dream come true for all students who were enrolling in Senior High School in September 2017 in the 2017/2018 academic year, because the promise of Free SHS by the NPP and President Akufo-Addo was beginning in earnest that academic year. All students who passed their Basic Education Certificate Examination in June 2017 were duly placed in their choice of Senior High Schools. All that a fresh student needed was get his provisions, mattress, trunk or bag and set off to school. All the fees associated with High School Education in Ghana was catered for by the government.

What Free SHS meant was, free tuition, free accommodation, free feeding, free uniforms, free books, in fact everything that could be mentioned about High School education was free. I happen to be a pioneer beneficiary of the Free SHS policy, and in the first year of the implementation of the policy many students were enrolled in various Senior High Schools for free.

The citizenry sung a lot of praise about the NPP and President Akufo-Addo for keeping through to their promise of implementing Free SHS immediately they assumed the reigns of government. Those who were skeptical had to throw away their doubt and skepticism and come into the real world of Free SHS happening in Ghana.

On the effective and successful implementation of the policy in 2017, the country did not need fortune tellers, soothsayers or any prophet to predict an astronomical increase in Senior High School enrollment in Ghana. It was obvious because, the Free SHS policy had come to remove the financial albatross that High School Education placed on the neck of parents, guardians and caretakers.

Hence, the chunk of students who could not enroll in Senior High Schools after Junior High School because of financial constraints were all having free access to secondary education. From 2018 to date, there has been an exponential increase in student enrolment in Senior High School. There is no doubt in the minds of Ghanaians that, indeed the underlying principle of “ACCESS” under Free SHS has been duly accomplished. The number of students enrolled so far speak to the fact of “ACCESS.”

Then also, the policy has not been discriminatory. It has given equal opportunity to all well- meaning Ghanaian students who are due for Senior High School and have passed their BECE. Even when many had opined that there should be a cut-off point for the beneficiaries, the government has stood firm on its grounds to give equal opportunity to students.

Also, even when many have raised concerns that some parents can pay for the Senior High School education of their wards, hence the policy should not be made to cover such students, the government has been assertive on its ideology of “EQUITY”. Thanks to Free SHS, students from rural Ghana and hinterlands are able compete for space in the ivy league kind of Senior High Schools in Ghana.

However, there has been a lot of controversies about the “QUALITY” of the policy. The double-track system introduced into Senior High School Education in 2018 was a novelty, and many saw it to be problematic to the quality of Senior High School Education in Ghana. But that was government’s temporary alternative way of solving the infrastructural challenge of most Senior High Schools which was exposed by the increase in student enrolment.

The duration and contact hours students spent in school was more than what they spent at home. Many parents are compelled to pay money for extra tuition for their wards during their long stay at home. The cost for those classes are exorbitant and unaffordable for many parents. The concern has also been that, ideally, students are unable to get to the tail of their three- year syllabus, teachers are therefore compelled to rush through the topics and put them on board for their final West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Undoubtedly, Free SHS has come to stay, but it must be put in a different apparel going forward. Though the policy was implemented by career politicians, whatever the lexicon “REVIEW” means in the dictionary of Free SHS should not be left into the hands of these career politicians. The best, finest and brightest brains in and outside of education should be brought on board, to think through how best the policy could be sustained, and made to realize its mission and vision in the years ahead.

EC Will Fully Roll Out Non-Stop Registration Next Year -Serebour “We are revising the register to give those who have turned 18 years who want to take part in the district level election to get the opportunity to register so that next year we can now go out fully with the continuous voters register.”

0
Dr Serebour Quaicoe —Director of Electoral Services, EC

The Electoral Commission has allayed the fears of the general public by assuring them of another chance to register to vote next year, as the current exercise is geared towards the upcoming district assembly elections.

According to the EC, it will undertake a full registration next year to ensure that all eligible voters are captured on the register for the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews over the weekend, the Deputy Electoral Commissioner in Charge of Electoral Services, Dr. Serebuor Quiacoe indicated that the ongoing limited registration is to allow people who have just turned 18 years to vote in the district assembly elections.

“We are revising the register to give those who have turned 18 years old and want to take part in the district-level election the opportunity to register, so that next year we can now go out fully with the continuous voter register,” he said.

The Commission has earned negative publicity over the limited voter registration exercise currently underway at its district offices.

The NDC and some Civil Society Organisations have vehemently spoken against the decision by the Commission to undertake the exercise at its district offices.

The critics have based their arguments on proximity and the cost of transportation among others, to advocate for the decentralisation of the exercise.

They argue that some district offices of the EC across the country were at hard-to-reach locations, preventing several people from going to register.

They also argued that areas where potential voters are able to visit the district offices are congested, due to the overwhelming number of registrants.

The presidential aspirant of the NDC, John Mahama, in his interaction with the media on day four of the exercise, also cited the issue of congestion at the district offices.

He further indicated that he had received other reports of poor network performance in some areas, compelling the EC to register people offline.

“People are coming from all over to register at one point. The second thing I have noticed and the complaint is that, the network is not strong. And so, they are not able to use the instant online registration and they are capturing some data offline. The danger is that sometimes there’s a repeat of somebody’s name, not of his or hers,” he said.

SANCTITY

Meanwhile, Dr. Serebuor Quicoe has said the Commission is concerned about the sanctity of the voter’s register, adding that the district offices are better equipped to ensure that.

He argued that people advocating for the extension of the limited voter registration from the district offices to the electoral areas are only concerned about the number of new registrants.

“For the media and the CSOs, your attention is to register them, register them, register them; that is the focus of the media and the CSOs. And probably that’s the reason why you’re quoting my Chair; at that time she was a CSO. But when you come into the kitchen, that is where you see that your responsibility changes.

“The thinking of the Commission is that it is to register people and also to protect the sanctity of the register. That is very very important, and nobody is talking about it. You’re going to compile a voter’s register that would be used to determine who leads Ghana on all fronts. What goes into the register should be something that should not bring about issues,” he said.

COURT

On September 7, 2003 five political parties namely; the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the All People’s Congress (APC), the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) filed a suit against the EC, challenging the decision to restrict the upcoming voter registration exercise to its district offices and arguing for the disenfranchisement of many eligible voters, especially those who live in remote areas.

The apex court was expected to have given a date for the application, but it has yet to do so.

The ongoing limited registration exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 is taking place in all its 268 district offices and is expected to end on Monday, October 2, 2023.

Expand registration centres -Mahama

0
John Dramani Mahama

The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to expand the voter registration centres for its ongoing limited registration exercise.

He made the call yesterday, September 17, 2023 in Accra, when he visited some selected EC registration centers in the Ayawaso West Wougon, after receiving several complains from the district offices.

The Ex-President opined that, increasing the number of centers could alleviate many of the issues currently being experienced, such as network problems and congestion.

These challenges, according to him, could be reduced should the EC expand the registration centers and also use multiple telecommunication companies (Telcos) to ease congestion and also speed up the registration process.

“Because it’s being done in the district offices, there is a lot of congestion because people are coming from all over to one point to come and register,” he said.

“The second thing I have noticed is that, the network is not strong and so they are not able to do the instant online registration and so they are capturing some of the data offline. The danger is sometimes, there is a repeat of somebody’s name not through any fault of his. I hear they are using only MTN, but normally you use multiple Telcos, so that if one is slow it can jump to another,” he reiterated.

Mr. Mahama explained that most of the youths he spoke to at the centers are between the ages of 15-21 years and were without Ghana Card, which he said, explained was the reason why the EC’s decision to use the Ghana Card as the sole identification document to register to vote in the 2024 polls could not materialise. Parliament on March 31, 2023 directed the electoral body to return to the drawing board if they want the Ghana Card to be used as the sole identification document.

“I think parliament was right to insist that the guarantor system must be used,” he added.

The NDC flag bearer charged the National Identification Authority to up their game to enable more people have access to their Ghana Cards, such that should it be considered as the sole identification document for any election in the future, it will not disfranchise any person.

He reiterated his call on the EC to help resolve the pending issues, saying “we know the hardship in the country now and how transport fares have gone up, it’s not easy on anyone to return to the center because they were not able to register on their first visit.

“You will be lucky if they come back, in some cases they might not come back because they will get frustrated by the process and that will disenfranchise them, this is why we are saying the centers should be moved closer to their polling stations and that would have been easier for them,” he bemoaned.

He said applicants who are in school have to give up their studies for days in an attempt to go through with the registration, adding that “if they are persistent enough to register, it means they will have to miss several hours of their education”

The highest number that has been registered so far is one hundred and seventy people, meanwhile the centers record more than that on a daily basis, he said.

Background

The Electoral Commission, last week announced the commencement of the 2023 voters’ registration exercise on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 and end on Monday, October 2, 2023.

In the said announcement, the Commission added that the exercise will take place at its district offices across the country, and also disclosed a GH¢10 charge for the replacement of a lost or misplaced voter’s ID card.

This, however, did not sit well with some political parties who believe holding the exercise at district offices would limit the registration process, disenfranchising eligible Ghanaian voters.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and four other political parties on Thursday, September 7 sued the Electoral Commission (EC) over its insistence on conducting the 2023 limited voter registration exercise at its district offices.

They believe the decision will disenfranchise many eligible voters.

TVET boss advises parents to choose TVET schools for wards

0
Dr Fred Asamoah

The Director General of the Commission for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, has urged parents to encourage their children and wards to consider choosing TVET schools, as the Computerised School Selection Process (CSSP) begins today.

He explained that choosing the TVET schools would help students enjoy the various benefits in the TVET sector which hold the key to the transformation of the nation’s economy.

The DG explained that the Ministry of Education has projected about 80,000 vacancies in TVET institutions in the country for the 2023/2024 academic year and urged students to take advantage of the vacancies, as against over 64,000 vacancies declared in 2022/2023
Dr Kyei Asamoah made the call on Friday when he briefed the media in Accra about the upcoming nationwide CSSP.

The exercise aims to ensure that all candidates select their preferred Senior High and/or Technical and Vocational Institution they would like to attend if they pass the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) next academic year.

The DG mentioned some of the measures put in place by the Government to increase intake, such as the implementation of free TVET, the upgrade of and retooling of all erstwhile NVTI’s institutions, the building of new institutions, including the Head Office of Ghana TVET Service, together with 10 Regional Offices.

He also mentioned the establishment of five apprenticeship offices across the country, the Opportunity Industrialisation Center in Accra, comprising of the Construction, Rehabilitation and Equipping of Laboratories, Workshops, additional Classrooms, Hostels and Administrative Offices, supported with some 123 million Euros which were completed in July 2022.

Dr Asamoah said to help in the promotion of TVET in the country, the Government in collaboration with industry has developed a competency-based curriculum in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, wellness and beauty, manufacturing, ICT, textile and apparel, construction and transport as well as logistics on the National TVET qualification framework which can go up to the Doctorate level.

He indicated that the CTVET will soon undertake Skills Competitions aimed at raising the profile and recognition of skilled people, adding that Ghana has organised two national skills competitions so far, since 2018 and taken part in two World Skills Africa Competitions.
“Ghana recently won two Gold Medals and two Silver Medals at the World Skills Africa Competition in Swakopmund Namibia. Dr Kyei said.

The DG again mentioned the establishment of TVET Clubs in Junior High Schools to generate interest in TVET courses, TVET Ambassadors and Role Model Campaigns, TVET Career Guidance and Counselling programmes in communities and schools as well as Radio and TVET adverts and other engagements.
State of the Art Centres

Dr Kyei Asamoah stated that Cabinet and Parliament in 2020 approved a concessional loan of €158,901,273.00 to finance the construction of Phase One of the Establishment of thirty-two (32) State of the Art TVET Centres Project which is currently under construction.

He indicated that the Construction of five new District TVET centres of excellence is ongoing with that of Anyinam and Pakyi No. 2 completed, while that of Assin Jakai in the Central Region, Akomadan and Manso Abore in the Ashanti Region are also under construction.

Dr Asamoah said that in addition to the mainstream free TVET, the government has also provided free apprenticeship training to over 18,000 Ghanaians since 2017, through the Ghana TVET Voucher project being implemented by CTVET with support from the German Government.

The DG mentioned the rehabilitation and upgrading of ten Technical Universities and thirteen Technical Institutes which includes the construction of new workshops/laboratories and the supply and installation of equipment fit for disciplines in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Welding technology, Automotive maintenance, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering have also been completed and inaugurated.

The mandate of the Commission
The Commission’s primary responsibility is to regulate, promote and administer technical and vocational education and training for transformation and innovation for sustainable development. The collaboration with industry and TVET institutions is improving through the establishment of sector skills bodies. This will increase the employment opportunities for TVET graduates.

I’m a proud UP, but my heritage is not a motivating factor -Akoto

Owusu Afriyie Akoto

A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has said his conviction to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general election is not motivated by the pride of his heritage in the UP tradition and hence, the sense of entitlement to lead the party in the current leadership race.

Instead, it has engendered his life-long commitment to work tirelessly to realise the vision of the Founding Fathers of the party.

He said, as the son of Baffour Akoto, founder and leader of the National Liberation Movement (NLM), he belongs to a generation of party members who trace their roots right to the very birth of the United Party (UP) tradition, but that does not bestow on him any sense of entitlement in the current NPP leadership race. Rather, his zeal to realise the dream of the founders of the party is his biggest motivation.

“I belong to the generation of party members who trace their roots right to the very birth of our tradition. But the pride of this heritage does not bestow on any of the entitlement in the current leadership race.

“Rather, it has engendered a real life-long commitment to work tirelessly to realise the vision of the founding fathers on whose shoulders our tradition and the spirit of the party stands”, he noted.

Dr. Akoto made this observation when he addressed a press conference in Accra on Thursday, September 14, 2023, over his preparedness for the NPP National Delegates Conference scheduled for November 4, 2024.

Economic hardship
Motivated by the dream of the founding fathers of the UP tradition, the former two-term Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, in the Ashanti Region, who holds two post-graduate degrees (M.Sc and PhD) from one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Cambridge University, assured of working tirelessly to ensure that he wins the mandate of the delegates of the party.

He also assured to subsequently as President of the Republic of Ghana, to turn around the fortunes of the country through pragmatic policies and programs with Agriculture as the bedrock and uplift the people the economic hardships they are going through.

To this effect, he has urged members of his campaign team in all the Electoral Areas and constituencies in the country to work diligently to ensure that all delegates vote massively for him (number 3 on the ballot box) to lead the charge for an emphatic victory in the December 2024 Presidential elections.

Victory
“I know the battle ahead is not going to be easy, but with determination and blessings from the Almighty, victory will be ours”, he assured.

Dr. Akoto, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, who also worked in the UN systems for more than 18 years, placed 4th in the Special Delegates Conference held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, surprising many political pundits and pollsters.

He is expected to intensify his campaign in the coming weeks as he re-strategises ahead of the NPP presidential primary ‘showdown’.
Over 210,000 party delegates are expected to exercise their franchise in the much-publicised elections.
