The Akufo-Addo government has given abundant life under its ‘Water For All’ agenda to the people of Mim, in the Ahafo region, with the commissioning of a GH¢10.5 million Water Supply systems to concretise the ‘Water For All’concept.
The Mim Water Supply project, constructed by Messrs Pumptech Limited and Beda Construction Engineers Limited, was commissioned by the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr. Freda Prempeh, last Wednesday.
Two mechanised boreholes with transmission lines of 550 metres, pump house and solar farm, laying of 19,300 metres of distribution pipe network and installation of pipe fittings to augment the production capacity of the system and the installation of two Iron removal plants to improve quality of water and all distribution networks have been installed for operations.
Other components of the rehabilitated Mim Water system include the construction of a Water System Management office, the rehabilitation 20 stand pipes and repairs of two High level tanks all at the cost of GHc10,517,852.78.
The Mim Water Supply system, constructed in 2003, but broke down in 2009, was rehabilitated in 2018 with the rehabilitation of five existing boreholes, together with their pump houses and pumps.
It is one of the 177 pipe water systems in 150 districts the government has invested in the rehabilitation and expansion and taken over by the Community Water and Sanitation System (CWSA) for management to ensure continuous water supply.
The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tano North, noted at the commissioning that access to clean water is not only a basic human need, but also a necessity to sustain all forms of life.
This is the reason why the president initiated the ‘Water for All’agenda to ensure the sustainable delivery of adequate, safe, affordable and realistic basic water services to the doorsteps of all citizens across the 16 regions.
She said the focus of the project is to attain safe sanitation and hygiene by 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and hoped water, sanitation and hygiene related diseases, such as malaria, typhoid, cholera and dysentery will reduce with the completion of the Mim Water Supply system.
The Minister mentioned that several projects within the rural water space have been initiated and that the Phase Three of the Five districts Water Supply Project has been completed to improve the water supply to a total of 234,411 people in 424 communities in the Central Tongu, Ho West, Adaklu and AgortimeZiope in the Volta region.
The Chief Executive of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Mr Aloysius Adjetey, noted that the assistance to CWSA by the government has brought about transformations in the WASH Sub-sector and pleaded with the residents to pay bills promptly to ensure quality service.
He urged the Mim Community to be vigilant and assist his outfit to protect the pipelines and prevent deliberate sabotage by those who will deliberately cut the pipe lines in an attempt to connect water to their homes and farmlands.
Mr Yaw Osei Boahen, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North, appealed to the CWSA to ensure that water supply was extended to all parts of the community.
The Kyidomhene of Mim Traditional area, Baffour Awuah II, who represented the Omanhene, Nana Dr.Okofrobour Yaw Agyei II, commended the President, Ministry of Water Resources and the CWSA for the efforts in the completion of the project in good time.
The chief, however, pleaded with the CWSA management to consider reducing the connection fee to enable many residents to connect water to their homes under the project.
