Causes of armpit bumps and how to treat them

0

Finding a bump under your armpit can be uncomfortable and disturbing. But you don’t need to panic as most armpit bumps are harmless and easily treatable.

These bumps can appear for various reasons, such as skin irritation, infections, or underlying health conditions. Knowing the cause of an armpit bump is the first step to treating it effectively and preventing future issues.

Many of these causes are common and manageable with simple remedies or lifestyle changes. However, some bumps may need medical attention.

Let’s walk you through five common causes of armpit bumps and how to treat them, so you can take care of your skin and health with confidence.

  1. Ingrown hairs

Cause: Shaving or waxing can cause hair to grow back into the skin instead of out of it, leading to painful, red bumps.

Treatment: Gently exfoliate the area to remove dead skin and help the hair break free. Avoid picking or squeezing the bump to prevent infection.

Switching to shaving cream or trying laser hair removal can help reduce ingrown hairs in the future.

  1. Clogged sweat glands

Cause: Blocked sweat glands can trap sweat and bacteria under the skin, leading to bumps, a condition known as hidradenitis suppurativa.

Treatment: Keep the area clean and dry. Avoid tight clothing that can irritate your skin. In more severe cases, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics or recommend minor surgery to remove the blocked glands.

  1. Skin irritation or allergies

Cause: Deodorants, perfumes, or laundry detergents can irritate sensitive skin, causing rashes or bumps.

Treatment: Stop using products that may have caused the irritation. Wash the area with mild soap and warm water. Look for hypoallergenic deodorants or natural alternatives that are gentle on your skin.

  1. Swollen lymph nodes

Cause: Your lymph nodes can swell due to infections like the flu, a cold, or other illnesses. These swollen nodes can feel like firm, tender bumps.

Treatment: Rest and stay hydrated to help your body fight the infection. The swelling should go down as your body heals. If the bump persists for more than two weeks or is accompanied by fever or weight loss, see a doctor.

  1. Bacterial or fungal infections

Cause: Warm, moist armpits are the perfect environment for bacteria or fungi to grow, leading to bumps or boils.

Treatment: Clean the area with an antibacterial soap and apply over-the-counter creams for bacterial or fungal infections. If the bump is large, painful, or filled with pus, see a doctor for drainage or stronger medication.

The Or Foundation donates GH¢1m to rebuild Kantamanto Market

0

The Or Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Accra, has donated GH¢1 million to support the reconstruction of the Kantamanto Market, following the devastating fire that razed Accra’s largest secondhand clothing hub.

The contribution represents the largest single donation to date and underscores the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that the market members rebuild and restore Kantamanto’s vibrant ecosystem.

Mr Sammy Oteng, the Senior Community Engagement Manager of The Or Foundation, who announced the donation at a press conference said the funds were to specifically cover the cost of lumber procured on credit from the neighbouring Accra Timber Market.

He said, “The donation is part of a broader emergency relief fund of GHS 15 million that The Or Foundation had pledged to support Kantamanto Market’s recovery,” and called for additional support from the global fashion industry.

Mr Oteng stated that the Foundation had coordinated closely with the market leadership to incorporate basic fire safety measures into the rebuilding process.

He stressed that, before the fire, the organisation worked extensively with retailers, upcycling traders, and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on waste collection initiatives and textile recycling solutions to create new economic opportunities for vulnerable groups, including young women, known as “Kayayei” who serves as porters in the market.

“Since the fire, The Or Foundation’s team of over 100 young Ghanaians has established relief tents within the market, offering essential support such as shade, first aid, water, and supply of face masks for individuals clearing debris and rebuilding,” he stated.

Mr Oteng said the organisation had also funded the deployment of heavy equipment, including trucks and a payloader, in partnership with the AMA to remove debris from the market to the Adepa Dumping Site, North of Accra.

“In addition to logistical support, the Foundation has provided immediate financial assistance to those injured or affected by the fire, covering thousands of Ghana Cedis in hospital bills,” he stated.

The Engagement Manager said the Foundation was currently compiling records of impacted individuals to facilitate the distribution of direct relief funds.

He pointed out that The Or Foundation’s response builds on its established Secondhand Solidarity Fund (SSF), which had distributed over USD 500,000 in direct grants to more than 1,500 Kantamanto Market members since 2020, as well as facilitated the installation of over 500 fire extinguishers across the market.

Madam Gloria Assiamah, an upcycling section leader, expressed gratitude to The Or Foundation for its continued support.

“The Or Foundation are not strangers to this market. They’ve been by our side in many ways, so when the fire happened and I saw the team on the ground doing whatever they could to support us, I wasn’t surprised but found some comfort.

She urged the global fashion industry to join in supporting the Kantamanto Market’s recovery.

Mr Adutwum Ata Manu, a Market Manager thanked the Foundation for its continuous support, describing their intervention as extraordinary.

“This time, we were without hope, and they came to our rescue because of the strong ties of friendship we share,” Mr Manu stated.

He called on the government, stakeholders, private individuals, corporate organisations, and wealthy benefactors to contribute to the market’s recovery.

The Market Manager said the market leaders were in discussions with the Electricity Company of Ghana to replace all wiring in the market to prevent future hazards, as well as the security personnel to enhance safety measures.

He mentioned that The Or Foundation had donated fire extinguishers to help mitigate future incidents and announced an upcoming meeting with the Ghana National Fire Service to discuss strategies for ensuring market safety.

God’s Will-Purpose For Our Lives

Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Executive Director, Salt and Light Ministries

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.” – Psalm19:1-2 (NIV)

INTRODUCTION

This article has been published before but we find it so relevant today.  Please meditate on it as you read on!

What is God’s will for my life is a question every Christian asks often. Sometimes God’s will seem so vague, so hard to know. But is that really the truth? Is God’s will so vague and so difficult to know? Maybe this is how we feel because we are expecting God to reveal something special to us while ignoring the revelation He has already given-His written WORD who is also His Son – the Lord Jesus Christ!

God created us for Himself – to love us, care for us and let us be the stewards of His creation and revealer of His purposes. Remember how we were created. God said “let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground – Genesis 1:26 lets read from 27-31 to get all the details.

SoGod created us in His image and for a relationship – a loving relationship where He trusted us enough to entrust the world He has created in our care.

What we do to and with ourselves; what we do to the environment and nature shows what kind of relationship we have with God and thus shows whether we are doing God’s will. The Bible has dozens of clear commands for us to follow such as:

  • Worship God only
  • Love your neighbour as well as your enemies
  • Pray for those who hate and despise you
  • Use your spiritual gifts
  • Do not lie
  • Do not covet
  • Do not steal
  • Obey God’s laws
  • Remain faithful
  • Stay married to one mate
  • Teach your children spiritual truths
  • Do not gossip
  • Be generous
  • Do not swear
  • Read God’s word regularly
  • Don’t let money control you
  • Let the Holy Spirit control your life.

We can go on and on. Isn’t that God’s will for our lives? My dear brothers and sisters, when we are ushered into eternity it won’t really matter what house, what car, or even what job we had. No! What will matter will be whether we have been faithful, loved our neighbour and come to know God intimately.

God is vitally interested in the details of our live but His real will is that we spend more and more time thinking about what is really important – our intimate and loving relationship with Him that manifests in living in obedience to Him. So let us find some answers from scripture to some burning questions about God’s will and purpose for our lives.

Does God Really Have a Plan for my Life?

  1. God cares about what we do. He cares about the details of our lives because these indicate the condition of our hearts – Psalm 139:3- “You discern my going out and my lifting deeds. You are familiar with all my ways.”
  2. God has wonderful things He wants to do/accomplish in us – Psalm 138:8a– “The Lord will fulfill His purposes for me;” Esther 4:13-17 – “who knows but that you have come royal position for such a time as this.”
  3. God’s plans for us are always for good. Unknown plans can be frightening but when the plans belong to God we can best assured that we can expect something marvellous – Jeremiah 29:11-for I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to destroy you. Plans to give you a future and a hope!”

What are Some of the Things we Should do to Discover God’s Will for our Lives

  1. We must actively seek God’s will – Proverbs 2:3-8- “and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.  He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones” (NIV).
  2. We must let God lead us from His word – Isaiah 2:3 – “come let us go into the mountain of the Lord…these He will teach us His way that we may obey.”
  3. Let’s give ourselves completely to knowing God’s will passionately and not casually – we have to read the word, study it, meditate on it and memorize it. Hosea 6:3 – “0 that we must know the Lord. Let us press on to Him! Then He will respond to us.”
  4. Let us pray to God, asking Him to reveal His will to us – Proverbs 2:6 – “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
  5. Sometimes the best way to know God’s will is to totally let go and allow God to have His wonderful way. We may learn more about His will for us to allow Him to work out His will in our lives. The first century disciples knew this and practiced it with great results – Acts 21:14 “When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

Stay blessed!

2025 Dawns With New – Old King

0
Africanus Owusu Ansah (Hot Issues)

Never underestimate these three things: (1) your opponents’ abilities 2) your opponent’s cunning; (3) your opponent’s greed. Never overestimate them either. – A Guide to the Corporate Machiavelli by V.

“Too known” was our sister, Achiaa based at Koforidua criticizing the behavior of members of her own “beloved” party. NPP that caused the party to lose overwhelmingly in the last elections – giving a gap of over 1.6 million votes between John Dramani Mahama (NDC) and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP). You may say this was not the time to analyse the words of Educated Ghanaian English (E.G.E.) referencing Annor Nimako’s “Mind Your Language” or Kari Dako’s “Ghanaian English” instead of the Target English expression of “arrogant,” “all knowing” and “self-conceitedness”.

But the outcome of the last elections showed the NPP how not to display arrogance if they want to come back and be competitive in the political realm of Ghana – in the near or far future. Or how not to be “unserious” mocking A – plus and others with “Nyame Ahyira me… ahye wo: (God has blessed me… it grieves you).

We would not blame the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He showed great humility in his outings and that was what Ghanaians would savour. He conceded defeat even when the E.C.  had not announced the results.

However, the same description could hardly be given to the vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) who disregarded the Solomonic advice of Otumfuo Osei Tutu and mounted the platform and had nothing better to say than “No President since independence had helped Ghana more than President Akufo-Addo; not even your Kwame Nkrumah”. We pray that our son learns to mount the ropes, before assuming a responsibility. The NPP perpetuated its doom; arrogance! arrogance! arrogance!

And members were not prepared to listen to any advice. Nana Addo would go to a public function and instruct chiefs to get up and “salute” him; he would ask a chief in the Volta Region who had requested support to complete a school building to use his own money to complete it (what insouciance!). Was the money the chief was requesting Nana Addo’s personal money? Akufo-Addo’s administration, insultingly blaming everybody else, but themselves whenever anything went wrong. And we can’t forget galamsey and L.I. 2462. (mining in forest reserves).

Some newspapers did not help matters! They would project the NPP, print obnoxious cartoons of NDC members and would not publish anything that “seemed” to draw the attention of NPP members to eschew excesses. What would they lose if a columnist decided not to write for the paper again?

So they thought and the result is there for all to see! Meanwhile, the alarming and derogatory story of the National Cathedral with a hole dug for $58 m was hanging on the neck of Nana Addo; the allegation of “family and friends “including Gabby Otchere Darko and Asante-Bediatuo running the show was all over the place and needed to be rebutted, the incidence of bloated contract-financing and corruption was rampant (the Cecilia Dapaah’s $1m under the bed and the ex-President still believing in her “integrity”).

And one would wonder about the authorship of the “Agyapadie Book” but exercise restraint for two reasons: ex-President Nana Addo says it was authored by “opposition’s assigns”. HopesonAdorye is facing a court action for GH¢10m – where would we stand if we were to be slapped with a suit of GH¢5,000! But we dare ask why would the opposition’s assigns write: “To our future made up of the present and the unborn, for whom this will of a nation, is being prepared. To our foremost King, Ofori Panin, the progenies spread across this world, for whom, and to whom alone, this sacred document is prepared.

As the heirs of Nana Apeanin Kwaframa, Nana Kuntunkununku, and Ofori Panin, our people were never defeated in the wars of old. We were nobody’s subjects, and yet, after 1957, we were made to live in the shadows of the descendants of people, who never defeated us in war while the Asante Kingdom was uplifted to put us in the shade. In relatively recent times, the struggles and works of J. B. Danquah to restore Okyeman to its original glory were thwarted. But he fought bravely to the end. With the arrival of Nana, we see the rebirth of a second J. B. Danquah who has come to the rescue…”

While pondering over these thoughts, time was inexorably marching on, and we said adieu to the episodic 2024. The minutes ticked away. Yiee – the yell at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at Amakom when the clock struck 12 midnight could be heard so many miles (or kilometers?) away. It was a time to shed tears, no; it was tears of joy – for God’s benevolence.

So, the prophecies – by fake prophets have failed! On New Year’s Day all the TV Stations had a lot to say. “Joy News” noted that “Ghanaians welcome the new year with excitement and optimism”.

On “Fire TV” people were “possessed” and were rolling on the floor: “GTV” had Valentia Tetteh announcing that the E.C. had declared NDC’s Elikplim Akurugu winner of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency election.

The same news was on TV3. Michael Aaron Yaw Oquaye polled 50,669 while Madam Akurugu polled 50,967, Asiedu-Nketia, NDC National Chairman was on the air to question: “State honours on looters and murderers… Award people like Hawa Koomson,… Bryan Acheampong…? Awards should be reserved for people who have distinguished themselves…” On ‘Onua TV’ Zanetor Rawlings was on the air thanking her constituency Osu-Klottey for their support for her. OB-TV was showing the musical medley; “… Mede me honamnyinaa da w’ase (Thanking God for helping us to sail through the year safely)”.

On “Royal TV”, it was “prophetic time” Rev. Owusu Bempah had requested Ghanaians to fast from 6am to 6pm to avert a catastrophe that hung on Ghana. Opambour had also predicted the same. It was all doom and gloom. But the panelists had a different opinion. They asked: “Does God not have anything else to do? “They recalled Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s prophecy of the death of Chief Imam, Sharabutu, last year and its consequences. The Chief Imam is still alive and kicking.

Nana Ofori Twentwenkoma would not fast, because of his age, and also because he nearly died when as a young man he followed the predication of a priest to stay away from food for three days. And Prophet Fire Ogya urged Ghanaians to pray for Rev. Owusu Bempah otherwise some calamity would befall him. Rev. Nigel Gaisie was predicting that something untoward would occur in Ghana on 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th January, 2025. Which scenarios suggest this? Was it the collapse of Nana Addo’s bodyguard, Colonel Amponsah, during the almost 2-hour long pleonastic, garrulous braggadocio?

Rev. Gaisie again predicted that Ghana Black Stars would be in the 2025 World Cup, and that a Vice-President in Nigeria would become a President! Wei, you would exclaim! And Gaisie ended in the destoolment of an Akuapim chief. Bishop J. Y. Adu who had earlier predicted Mahama loss was on the air, claiming peace has not come to Ghana and he feared spillage of blood.

Like Rev. Gaisie, we “don’t want to say it all (for now)”, but warn readers:” Those whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad”.

Kotoko sign experienced forward Sampson Eduku

0

Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of 29-year-old forward Sampson Eduku on a one-and-a-half-year contract following the successful completion of his medical.

Eduku joins the Porcupine Warriors from Iraqi Premier League side Al Quwa Al Jawiya, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven goal-scoring record.

The striker’s career has been marked by notable stints with Samartex and Tamale City, where he enjoyed a standout season in the 2022/23 campaign.

Eduku scored 14 goals and provided four assists for Tamale City, catching the eye of top clubs with his scintillating form.

His performances earned him a move to Iraq, where he continued to showcase his attacking prowess.

Kotoko are confident that Eduku’s experience and goal-scoring ability will significantly bolster their squad as they push for the Ghana Premier League title this season. They are currently in sixth place with 28 points after 16 matches.

Eduku’s arrival adds further depth to Kotoko’s forward line, and the club’s management believes his skill set will help elevate their campaign as they aim for success.

Kotoko fans are hopeful that Eduku’s presence will bring the goals needed to secure the league title.

Tuesday, January 7, 2025 was a wonderful day in this God blessed our homeland, called Ghana. Tuesday is the most special and precious day to our Almighty Lord God, because it is the only day in creation that He blessed twice. Those who out of jealousy and want to doubt this can freely read the creation story in Genesis 1: 1-31, 2:1-3. Tuesday was the only day, that God made two different sets of creation and twice blessed that day. Because of Tuesday, by Saturday all of creation had been completed and God took a holy rest.

On January 7, Tuesday merged with Saturday in the person of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Donald Trump of our nation. Tuesday has brought a double blessing to our country and with a Saturday on the throne, we look forward to a relaxing four years of John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

H.E. John Dramani Mahama gave a good speech and he must be applauded for that. But what Ghanaians need to do, is that in this second and final era of JDM’s reign, we must stop that destructive attacks on government but when we need to criticize it must be constructive. No more reckless attacks on government and persons.

I pray that whenever any person or groups of persons, institutions and what have you, would want to take government on, the words must be in decorum, with good suggestions that can help the progress of this country.

Ghana is thirty-two years in this Republic, but we are yet to experience any positive growth in democracy and progress. Thirty-two long years. In fact, we should be in the same state which the USA, UK and others are in, where it will not matter which government is in power, life still goes on and everybody is fine and okay.

If we can use this opportunity God has given us, H.E. John Dramani Mahama would become one of the best presidents of this republic and of Africa. Ghana is for all of us and we must contribute to make her great and strong. We must not sit and watch government going wrong and curse it with words like, “they say, they can do it, so leave them to do it,” and “after deceiving Ghanaians, they are now exposing themselves.” Irrespective of who or what we are, we must know that Ghana is for all of us and we must help this government, any government to make things right.

Welcome back, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, we all wish you a good and successful stay.

The New Patriotic Party has gone back to opposition and it should be a lesson to a party of the UP Tradition. Whatever went wrong? Free SHS to enable students from poor families to get their education to secondary level. But it seems the beneficiaries were not pleased.

Six regions were created and Oti which has been petitioning for a separate region from the Ewes in the south, since the days of Dr. K.A. Busia of the Progress Party regime, had their desire met by Nana Addo. Yet when it came to elections, Oti and three other regions showed ingratitude to Nana Addo and his NPP government. Infrastructures par excellence sprang up across the country, but people seem not to see. What could be the problem? Well, it is said that, poverty in the midst of plenty is the worse to endure.

Some of what could be the problem can be attributed, firstly to how the NPP was managed. It looked like when Nana Addo assured Ghanaians that NPP has the men, he chose not to include them in his administration, because they would stand up and tell him as it is. Therefore, anyone who held a diverse opinion was regarded an enemy of government and party. Why did BoakyeAgyarko, OtikoDjaba and Gloria Akuffo go the way they went? With that even the aged around the ex-president weighed and calculated what they said or did. The Institution was established.

The greats like H.E. J.A. Kufuor, Kwadwo Mpiani, Nyaho Tamaklo were classified as non-entities. At the last rally before the elections, when Kufuor was talking, I noticed that those who belong to the Institution and were on the stage, were so agitated and would have pushed the Old Man away if that could not disregard protocol and disrespect to the statesman. Yes, anyone in NPP who dared to speak out boldly to say the emperor had no cloths on, when indeed that was the case, were branded outcasts.

On two separate funerals, I was accosted by two prominent members of the Institution with these words, “As for you, you are always in the opposition” and “You are not one of us, you are not on the list.” How sad to hear words like these coming from people who we all together helped bring up NPP during those dark and dangerous days of the early nineties.

All the same what made NPP descend from 169 seats in Parliament in 2017 to 137 seats in 2021? When Paul Afoko was national chairman, he insisted that no parliamentary candidate would be imposed on a constituency, something H.E. J.A. Kufuor openly instructed in 2004. Even though, Paul was unconstitutionally dismissed from his position with two others, Sammy Crabbe and Kwabena Agyapong, the NPP was firmed and united in 2016 and went into the General Elections, very strong.

The Institution brought in a CPP guru, Freddie Blay, who had no love for the UP Tradition, to head the party, for six years, first as acting chairman for two years and the substantive chairman years. And in 2020, with reckless impositions of parliamentary candidates, NPP fell from 169 seats to 137.

The Institution rightly instituted a committee led by Hon. Yaw Sarfo-Maafo to find out what actually went wrong. It is obvious that the larger party supporters out there came out with the truth. When the report was ready, all in NPP wanted to know what caused this poor performance. We were told, the findings were too explosive to reveal, so the report was kept under someone’s bed.

The wrongs which could be addressed were left untouched and the impositions and other wrong things continued. Come, 2024, a third of the NPP supporters decided to get rid of this irresponsible conduct in the party and so, they simply stayed at home. Now NPP has gone down to 89 seats in Parliament.

Information that is being gathered is revealing that among the reasons for the actions of those who stayed away, was the disappointment of how the Institution treated Alan Kyerematen to make him leave the party so they gave up on the NPP. They held the belief that Alan was not going to win and they would not want to waste their votes, so they stayed put. If these over 2 million NPP supporters had linked up, Alan would have had over 2 million votes with 15.86%, JDM will secured 47.71% and DMB will be second with 35.11%. A run-off would be required to separate the top two and Alan would be the kingmaker and highly respected.

At any rate, God took His own decision and allowed the third John to come back and complete his work. Meanwhile, the Elephants led by the Elephas Maximus Borneensis, have according to Arthur Kennedy, gone back to the bush.

The only way, these giants can come back, is to destabilize the Institution and made all card-bearing members take decisions concerning the NPP. More later.

Welcome again, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, may the Good Lord God send His angels to protect you and your government. Stay blessed, always.

Newcastle and Villa charged over ‘half-time melee’

0
Jason Tindall, Newcastle

Newcastle United, Aston Villa and a staff member from both clubs have been charged following an incident at half-time during the sides’ recent Premier League match.

The Magpies beat Villa 3-0 at St James’ Park on 26 December, with Villa striker Jhon Duran sent off after 32 minutes for stamping on Fabian Schar.

The Football Association (FA) has charged both teams for failing to control their players and staff following an altercation during the break.

Newcastle assistant head coach Jason Tindall, who was sent off for his part in the incident, as well as Villa analyst Victor Manas, have both been charged for acting in an improper manner.

Asked in his post-match media conference if the incident could be described as a “20-man half-time melee”, Newcastle head coach Howe said: “Yeah, I don’t think that’s far off.

“These things always start out, I don’t think, with the intention of it happening in the way that it did.

“There was probably 17 or 18 people trying to calm it down, but what it looks like then are more people are involved.”

Villa manager Unai Emery was furious with Duran’s sending-off and his frustrations continued throughout the first half.

Tindall was later seen shushing Emery in the technical area.

Everton sack manager Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche, sacked

Sean Dyche has been sacked as Everton manager after less than two years in charge at Goodison Park.

The 53-year-old departs just hours before Everton are due to host League One side Peterborough in the third round of the FA Cup.

Everton announced their under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of the team for that game.

Right-back Coleman and former left-back Baines have made more than 800 Everton appearances between them.

Four members of Dyche’s coaching staff – Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer – have also departed.

The Toffees were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth on Saturday and sit 16th in the Premier League and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

They failed to register a shot on target at Vitality Stadium and have won just three of 19 games in the league this season.

Dyche, whose contract was due to expire in the summer, succeeded Frank Lampard on 30 January 2023 with Everton in the relegation zone.

The team secured survival with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth on the final day of that season.

Rayo Vallecano, Celta Vigo lock horns in La Liga on Friday

0
Abdul Munim, Rayo Vallecano

Two teams in strong form will lock horns in La Liga on Friday evening, with Rayo Vallecano welcoming Celta Vigo to Campo de Futbol de Vallecas. Rayo are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions and are currently in 12th spot in the La Liga table, while Celta, who occupy 11th in Spain’s top flight, have won four of their last five games.

Rayo boast a record of five wins, seven draws and six defeats from their 18 La Liga matches this season, with a total of 22 points leaving them in 12th spot in the table, seven points ahead of the relegation zone and three points off the top seven.

The capital outfit are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, including their last four in the league, beating Valencia 1-0 before drawing three straight games against Real Madrid, Villarreal and Real Betis.

Rayo have performed better on their travels than at home this season, only picking up nine points from their eight matches in front of their own fans, so that is a clear area in need of improvement in the second half of the campaign.

Los Franjirrojos are winless in their last seven league matches against Celta, although both matches between the two sides during the 2023-24 campaign finished in goalless draws.

Celta, meanwhile, were in Copa del Rey action on January 5, booking their spot in the last-16 stage of the competition courtesy of a 3-2 success over Segunda Division outfit Racing de Santander.

Celta have only won once on their travels in the league this season, but they will be coming up against a Rayo outfit with one of the poorer home records in the division. There are just two points separating these two sides in the table, and we are finding it difficult to predict a winner here, with a tight match in Madrid potentially finishing with the spoils being shared.

Lazio welcome high flying Como today

0
Nico Paz

After a derby defeat in their first fixture of 2025, Lazio aim to get back on track when they meet an improving Como side on Friday.

Ahead of the teams’ clash at Stadio Olimpico, the Biancocelesti have picked up just seven points from their last six Serie A matches – in the same period, Como have accrued more despite playing one game fewer.

Having given an early two-goal head lead to their fiercest rivals in last week’s Derby della Capitale, Lazio’s hopes of beating Roma and closing the gap to Italy’s top three were in tatters before half time of a typically fraught contest.

The two Eternal City sides had produced very different results during the latter half of 2024 – with Lazio leading Roma in both the Serie A and Europa League standings – but the Giallorossi’s fast start ultimately defeated Marco Baroni‘s men.

A dismal day for the Biancocelesti was capped by the stoppage-time dismissal of star striker Taty Castellanos, who saw red amid a series of scuffles, so they will be intent on making a fresh start this weekend.

Having played at least one game more than most of their fellow contenders, the capital club are now just ahead of Juventus, Fiorentina, Bologna and AC Milan, making a home victory over Serie A newcomers all but essential.

History will certainly be on their side, as Lazio have won six of eight previous top-flight meetings with Como on Roman.
