Outgoing Akrofuom Director of Education honoured  

The outgoing District Director of Education, Mr. George Sarfo Kantanka, has been honoured for his outstanding leadership and contributions towards the development of education in the Akrofuom District.

He has been presented with a piece of cloth and a citation by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Maurice Jonas Woode.

The DCE explained that the outgoing Director of Education had been a key figure in positioning the district as a force to reckon with in the region.

According to him, the Director had a strong bond with teachers in the District, which attribute brought the best out of them.

He noted that the District lacked adequate teachers in the past, but with the active involvement of the Director in the posting of teachers to the district, over 50 were posted there.

The DCE stated that the outgoing Director of Education’s term of office had initiated the establishment of Technical and Vocational centers at Amponyase in a collaborative effort with the Assembly and Church of Pentecost.

He disclosed that, through the initiative of Mr. George Sarfo Kantanka, another Technical and Vocational Center would soon be set up at Adamso in collaboration with the Methodist Church, and another at Yaadome with Birmingham to be started soon. Mr. Maurice Woode expressed his profound gratitude to the Director for his legacies, and believed that the newly appointed District Director of Education would continue from where his predecessor left off.

He reiterated that the Akrofuom District Assembly remained resolute in its quest to promote Information and Communications Technology (ICT) education, hence, the distribution of desktops, laptops and computer accessories to schools in the district.

According to him, through German-based Labdoo, he previously distributed 32 desktops and laptops to some schools in the District and Obuasi Senior High Technical School, his alma mater.

The outgoing Director of Education commended the Assembly, especially the District Chief Executive, Members of the District Education Oversight Committee, traditional leaders and Assembly members for the successes he chalked in the Directorate within a short period.

He was optimistic that with the work done by stakeholders, the future of education in the district remained brighter, and urged the stakeholders to continue to work harder and commit to supporting education in the district.

He disclosed that the government introduced SMART classroom learning technology, which needed computers to enhance the programme, and lauded the DCE for his innovation in distributing computers in the district, hence, the Roman Catholic School in Akrofuom had been designated an ICT center in the district, and expressed the hope that there would be more computers to assist in ICT education in the district.

Meanwhile, the DCE has donated nine desktops and two laptops computers to the District ICT center at the Akrofuom R/C Junior High School (JHS) as an addition to the existing ones in the computer laboratory.

The gesture, he said, was a demonstration of the Assembly’s unwavering support towards making ICT an important subject in schools in the district.

He further said the Assembly was focused on making the teaching and learning of ICT easier among teachers and students in the district.
