The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has confirmed that the extradition process for Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta (A1) is underway, according to an update the OSP shared on its X platform.

The OSP stated that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has received Mr. Ofori-Atta’s extradition packet and transmitted the summons and charge sheet to him. He is currently facing two proceedings in the United States: immigration violation proceedings and extradition proceedings.

The update further noted that the DOJ has sought advice on the handling of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s Chief of Staff, Ernst Darko Akore (A2), a dual US-Ghanaian citizen. US authorities requested guidance on whether to arrest Mr. Akore prior to serving a summons or to first serve the summons. The OSP advised that the United States should take “the most expedient and judicious approach available under their laws.”

In Ghana, procedural developments continue. The OSP reported that prosecutors have refiled the charge sheet for the sixth accused, Hon. Col. (Rtd) Kwadwo Damoah (A6), following his application to have his official titles reflected. Charges against him were read afresh to include his designation.

The OSP confirmed that proceedings in Ghana will continue, with the next hearing scheduled for 26 March 2026, and additional disclosures expected during the adjournment period.
