Olympics beat Gold Stars to halt winless run

Accra Great Olympics ended their winless streak after defeating Bibiani Gold Stars in an early kickoff of the Ghana Premier League match-week eight.

Coach Annor Walker’s side entered the fixture, which was played at Sogakope, following the temporal closure of the Accra Sports Stadium, without a victory in their last four games

Great Olympics dominated the first half of the fixture against Bibiani Gold Stars which they managed to snatch the opener through James Akaminko in the 39th minute of the game.

Gold Stars had opportunities to level the score in the final minutes of the first half, but their attempts went wide.

The home side, Great Olympics, held on to end the first department of the clash with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Bibiani Goldstars gained possession to mount pressure on the Wonder club but they looked wasteful upfront.

Great Olympics had most of the attack launched being responded swiftly by the visitors but they kept knocking for more goals despite the earlier display of Goldstars FC.

In-form Maxwell Abbey Quaye sealed their victory with a brilliant strike on the 89th minute to end the fixture in a 2-0 win for Great Olympics at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope.
