President Akufo Addo has commissioned a new oil and gas Service Terminal at the Takoradi Port over the weekend.
The commissioning of the facility marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey to become a significant major player in the oil and gas industry.
The facility comprises logistics base, a fabrication yard and a Quay wall. It was constructed by Chin Harbour Engineering Company and is expected to create hundreds of jobs.
Commissioning the project, Nana Akufo-Addo described the terminal as a bold testament to the progress the country was making in positioning Ghana as a leading heart for oil and gas services.
The facility, he noted, would not only streamline offshore supply services, but also enhance heavy engineering and fabrication activities that were vital to petroleum exploration and drilling campaigns within our reach by offering a comprehensive suite of services.
The terminal, the President noted, would strengthen Ghana’s position as a competitive destination for oil and gas operations.
That apart, it would provide a one stop solution for the petroleum exploration industry, enabling efficient transformation of essential resources, supplies and personnel to and from offshore operational zones to reduce transit times and costs, whilst offering specialised facilities to manage hazardous and oversized cars.
Again, through optimised Supply Chain Management, the oil and gas Terminal would create employment opportunities, foster the transfer of advanced technology and support local industries to thrive in the competitive global oil and gas market.
“Today we celebrate not just the commissioning of a facility, but the realisation of a vision, one that cements Ghana’s grace as a leader in the oil and gas service sector and as a beacon of economic resilience and transformation,” he added.
Two years ago, president Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Atlantic Container and multi-purpose Terminal, as well as the new dry bulk terminal, which is termed critical investments in our port infrastructure.
“Today, we gather once more to mark the realisation of yet another transformative project, one that underscores the unwavering commitment of my government to enhancing Ghana’s economic competitiveness through modern infrastructure.”
The scope of work for this landmark facility included the construction of a fully furnished 550 meter King, modern birthing facilities, dredging and reclamation works, eternal road networks, storm drainage systems and pipelines for water supply and bunkering service.
Kwaku Asiama, Minister for Transport, thanked President Akufo-Addo for his commitment towards transforming the Ports in Ghana.
According to him, when President Akufo-Addo took over the reins of power in 2017, the depth of Takoradi Port was11 meters deep.
Today, the depth of the Port stands at 16 meters, competing with Tema Port. This significant milestone, he noted, was an indication of the president’s vision for the Ports.
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister, on his part indicated that the Terminal marked a significant step in our nation’s quest for economic growth, infrastructure development and job creation.
The oil and gas services terminal is a concrete statement of government commitment to creating an enabling environment for the growth of the energy sector.
“You will all agree with me that the Takoradi Port has been the heartbeat of the region and is indeed the beacon of economic fortunes of the people of the Western Region.
Every infrastructural development or additions to the port have directly impacted the lives of the people of the region and the country at large”.
