Odike faces Sanhedrin today

The embattled Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai of Odike Ventures fame, is expected to appear before the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) today.

The proposed meeting is in connection with comments he made on a Kumasi local radio station, in which he unequivocally criticised the chiefs for failing to help end the galamsey (illegal mining) menace.

He was also accused of inciting the youth to rise up and demonstrate against the chiefs if they failed to come clear on their roles in or stance against illegal mining.

But nananom considered the comments of Odike as disrespectful and slaughtered a ram as a traditional rite to prevail on the gods to help resist any rebellion against the Asante Kingdom.

He was expected to meet the Traditional Council last Thursday to explain himself, but he declined out of respect for the decisions of the Traditional Council, which had banished him from entering Manhyia Palace.

The businessman cum politician explained that he refused to appear before the Council last Thursday, because he had been banished from entering the Manhyia Palace.

Mr. Addai has, however, asked the Kumasi Traditional Council, headed by Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI as its Acting President, to nullify the banishment order as a condition to enable him appear before the KTC and render his apology after charges had been preferred against him formally.
