NPP members urged to unite to break the eight

Barely a few days after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its presidential primaries and elected Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as its flag bearer, the Ashanti Regional branch of the party has urged its members to close their ranks and forge ahead for the 2024 General Elections.

NPP-Ashanti also sized the opportunity to highly commend Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh for demonstrating their commitment to ensuring a solid and united party with their appearance at the event of the declaration of the party’s presidential candidate.

According to the Ashanti NPP, the gesture was enough to demonstrate a message of hope, unity of purpose, and solid cohesion going into the 2024 elections, emphasising that breaking the 8 was a collective responsibility.

In view of the above, it has subsequently implored the members of the party to unite and battle the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to extend the stay of the NPP at Jubilee House as it develops Ghana.

“The NPP is a party that gives hope, and we must continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the aspirations and hopes of the good people of Ghana come true. And with Dr. Bawumia leading the party, we are confident that the wind will blow in our favour, while the sun and the moon will give us the energies to prosecute a historic landslide electoral victory come 2024,” the Ashanti Regional Director of Communications of the NPP, Paul Kwabena Yandoh, stated in a release copied to The Chronicle.

Yandoh added: “The elections are over, and we must all unite and forge ahead. As we acknowledge the uphill battle fought by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Hon. Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie, and Hon. Ing. Francis Addai Nimo, we entreat their supporters to remain committed and loyal to the NPP and join the workforce of the party to maximise our chances of winning the 2024 general elections.”

He acknowledged that the election of Dr. Bawumia is a historical milestone that has brought true meaning to the Dankwa-Dombo-Busia tradition and deepened its tenets as a national party that accommodates every individual irrespective of their religion, tribe, or creed.

According to Paul Yandoh, the resounding victory obtained by the Vice President is a clear indication of the absolute confidence the rank and file of the party have in his competence and leadership abilities.

“The smooth process of the election and the eventual declaration of Dr. Bawumia as the presidential candidate without any acrimony or misunderstanding give credence to the fact that the NPP remains resolute to prosecute Agenda 2024. We are, indeed, the New Patriotic Party.”

The Ashanti Regional Director of Communication indicated that the presidential primaries elections held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, were one of a kind, as party faithful with voting rights came out to exercise their franchise.

This, according to Mr. Yandoh, was a clear attestation of the fact that the party is the beacon when it comes to proper intraparty contests in Ghana, adding that the party has made a tacit and bold decision, and it behoves all party members—wherever we find ourselves—to rally behind this decision and ensure we break the eight.
