The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says about 7,800 delegates have been accredited for its National Delegates Conference underway in Kumasi, with the organisers ruling out any form of camping at the event.

Chairman of the Conference Organisation Committee, Mr Anthony Karbo, said arrangements had been made to ensure the smooth movement of delegates from their various hostels to the conference venue, with the Police providing escorts.

“Accreditation cannot be an issue at this time. The number of accreditations that has gone out, we are talking about 7,800 accreditations,” Mr Karbo told the media in Kumasi.

He said the main challenge confronting the organisers was traffic management, particularly around the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where a number of delegates are staying.

“The other issue with the Police has to do with traffic management within the city, especially from KNUST, where the delegates are, so that they can easily access and come,” he said.

Mr Karbo commended the Police for their support, describing their work so far as “fantastic”.

On reports of delegates camping ahead of the conference, he was categorical that no such arrangement would be permitted.

“There is no camping; there is no possibility of camping in this conference,” he said, adding that the organisers would ensure the directive was enforced.

He said the aspirants had so far conducted themselves well and expressed hope that the conference would proceed smoothly.

Mr Karbo also disclosed that delegates were being provided with breakfast at the park, while Police escorts were being used to transport them from their hostels to the conference venue.

He said the organisers were hoping to commence the conference at 9 a.m.
