Northern-Savanna Crops & Tubers Ltd and Complete Farmer Ltd have entered into a strategic partnership to cultivate and export more than 500 acres of white sesame to international markets.
The partnership is expected to expand Ghana’s participation in the global sesame market while creating opportunities for farmers and communities, particularly in the Upper East Region.
Under the agreement, Northern-Savanna will provide tested, licensed and serviced organic plots of varying sizes to growers and clients within Complete Farmer’s agricultural ecosystem.
Complete Farmer, an agricultural technology and market-enabling company, will contribute its market knowledge and expertise to strengthen production and sales structures, with the aim of supporting larger orders and expanding market access.
The two companies said the partnership was designed to link farmers to high-value markets while promoting sustainable agricultural practices and improving opportunities for rural communities.
Organic farming
Northern-Savanna, a woman-owned agricultural enterprise, operates an irrigation-fed farming model focused on regenerative and organic agriculture, agro-processing, food security and community development.
The company said it had secured about 10,000 acres of land in the Upper East Region for organic farming to supply both domestic and international markets.
It is also undertaking certification and regulatory processes required to establish the farm as a fully certified organic commercial operation.
According to the company, the experience gained through the certification process would subsequently be used to support smaller farms seeking to adopt similar standards and production practices.
The partnership forms part of plans by the two companies to develop agricultural value chains that connect production with processing, logistics and export markets.
Export ambitions
Northern-Savanna said it had also entered into partnerships with international export and logistics organisations to establish an organic crop enclave in the Upper East Region in 2027.
The proposed facility is expected to include infrastructure for crop cultivation, sorting, cleaning, processing, packaging, warehousing, laboratory services and customs processing.
The company said the enclave was intended to facilitate direct bulk supplies to markets in Europe, the United Arab Emirates, Asia and the Americas.
Co-founder of Northern-Savanna, Golda N.A. Addo, said the company’s broader objective was to ensure that communities involved in agricultural production also benefited from the value generated from their resources.
“The future of Africa’s agriculture must be one in which we do not simply produce resources for the world, but build systems that allow our communities to also prosper from those resources,” she said.
The companies said the partnership would extend beyond sesame production, with agriculture positioned as a platform for food security, wealth creation and sustainable livelihoods.
