Accra, February 18, 2026 — The Office of the President has announced that no prima facie case exists in the petitions seeking the removal of Ghana’s Electoral Commissioner, her Deputy Commissioners, and the Special Prosecutor.
According to a statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President John Dramani Mahama received seven petitions from various individuals and groups calling for the dismissal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her deputies. Three additional petitions requested the removal of the Special Prosecutor.
In line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), the President referred the petitions to the Chief Justice, His Lordship Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, on November 25, 2025, to determine whether the petitions disclosed a prima facie case.
By a letter dated January 26, 2026, the Chief Justice informed the President that the petitions did not establish any prima facie case to warrant further investigations or removal of the officials in question.
The President’s spokesperson noted that this decision upholds the integrity of the institutions and provides clarity on the matter for the public.
