Nkomi chiefs, Youth Smoke Peace pipe

The state of Chiefs Palace at Kajaji

The one-and-a half- year old hostilities between the chiefs and youth of the Nkomi Traditional area in the Sene East District of the Bono East Region have been resolved amicably following the intervention of group calling itself “Friends of the Media”.

The peace process was lead by Mr. Robert K. BaffoKodom, chairman of the mediating group, who had consulted with the Youth and Nananom separately to broker peace.

At a meeting of the two sides atKajaji, the District capital,  last week, Nana AmmaMentenso II, Queen Mother Of Nkomi traditional area on one side and Mr. Bernard Gyabaah Sampa, chairman Nkomi Youth  association on the other side agreed in principle to work for the development of the area.

It was established that the youth had disregarded the authority of Nananom, following the leadership vacuum created by the demise of Nana EffaDateh II. As a result, the youth rendered an unqualified apology to the chiefs and pledged to strengthen ties and work together for the development of the community.

They also called on the Chiefs to nominate and install a substantive paramount chief for which they promised their full support.

The youth expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the Chief’s Palace at Kajaji, which is currently serving as a haven for criminals and had been virtually taken over by lunatics and stressed the need to take control of the Palace as soon as possible.

Mr.BaffoKodom thanked the two parties for accepting the peace deal and urged them to live in harmony and champion development of the area.

He assured that the group would continue to resolve misunderstandings between all manner of people, groups, youth and Chiefs to help ensure peace and development in the region.

Mr.BaffoKodom also thanked the DCE for Sene East, Kofi Gyima and Mr. Daniel Ofori, an official of the Assembly, for their role in  helping to resolve the dispute amicably.
