Newmont raised the money from the generous contributions of its employees and business partners.

The Ola Girls Senior High School in Kenyasi II, the only girls’ Senior High School (SHS) in the Ahafo Region, had major challenges with classroom and dining hall furniture.

This had resulted in students using broken plastic chairs, multiple students sharing chairs, with others standing to eat in the dining hall, which had affected the quality of learning.

The Project Control Team, after observing the situation at the school and other needs in the host communities, decided to embark on two charity projects in the Ahafo Region.

The company settled on the construction of a Child Welfare Clinic for the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hwidiem, and the provision of classroom and dining hall furniture to the Ola Girls Senior High School in Kenyasi II.

Meanwhile, the St. Elizabeth Hospital project is still ongoing.

The employees of the mining company said they believed that the support given would go a long way to assist the school and help enhance studies.
