NDC Chair race: Mosquito in comfortable lead

A survey conducted by The Chronicle in Kumasi has revealed that Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is vying for the chairmanship race has an edge over the incumbent National Chairman, Comrade Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

The survey, in which views of delegates were sampled at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi yesterday, indicated that the General Secretary stands tall to win the upcoming elections.

About 70% to 80% of the delegates in the Ashanti region predicted a win for General Mosquito.

According to the interviewees, Mr. Asiedu Nketia is strong in spirit, courageous and fearless when it comes to elections.

The delegates said Mr. Asiedu Nketia is more abreast with the core values of the NDC and knows what it takes to ensure that the NPP does not steal the 2024 elections or attack NDC members before and during the elections.

They further explained their position by saying Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, the incumbent National Chairman is too calm and soft to handle the 2024 elections.

They further claimed that politics is not for the clergy, hence the need to bring Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who is strong and fearless to face the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Meanwhile, those who rooted for Mr. Ofosu Ampofo to be retained said the leadership of the incumbent chairman was fairly successful in 2020. This is because he ensured that the NDC reclaimed most of the seats it lost in the 2016 elections, even as an opposition party.

According to them, Ofosu Ampofo’s calmness and gentle nature of doing politics attracted more floating voters to the party in the 2020 elections, which increased the fortunes of the party, hence the need to retain him and to claw back political power from the governing NPP.
