Nana Akwanzi Abroba denies elevation of Princess Town to Paramount status

The Ahanta Traditional Council and Divisional Chief of Princess Town, Nana Akwanzi Abroba IV, and other chiefs at Miemia, Cape Three Points, and Akwidaa have denied a newspaper and online publication that they were in support of a petition to elevate Princess Town to Paramount status.

It would be recalled that a pro-Nzema group, led by one Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, sought to delineate Princess Town, Miemia, Egyambra and adjoining areas to the Nzema East Municipality.

This was after the pro-Nzema group, in a petition to President Akufo-Addo called for the elevation of Princess Town to Paramount status.

The group threatened to lead Princess Town and the adjoining communities to delineate from Ahanta land if Princess Town was not accorded Paramount status.

But, in a statement released and signed by Nana Akwanzi Abroba IV, Acting President of the Council, it has denied that it is in support of the said petition.

Below is the full statement.

RE: NZEMA YOUTH PETITION TO DELINEATE SOME COMMUNITIES IN THE AHANTA TARDITIONAL AREA

The attention of Nananom of the Ahanta Traditional Council has been drawn to publication in section of the media particularly in the Tinder newspaper captioned” Nzema Youth petitions President to delineate Cape Three Points, other communities from Ahanta West Municipality’ dated Tuesday, 22nd August, 2023 in which the Western Nzema Youth League led by one Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie sort to delineate Prusi Akatakyi, Princess Town, Miemia, Egyambra and their adjourning Areas to the Nzema East Municipality.

Nananom of the Ahanta Traditional Area would like to categorically sate that, the petition does not involve the consultation of Nananom of the Ahanta Traditional Area and their stakeholders, as falsely indicated in the petition and same should be disregarded with the greatest of contempt.

The Traditional Council and the Chiefs and people of the aforementioned communities, have not in any occasion denied that they do not form part of Ahanta Traditional Area.

For the records, prior to the arrival of the Dutch on Ahanta Land, Ahanta State was bound on the left from river Ankobra and on the right to River Pra and the Ahanta territory still remains so till date.

More importantly, The Areas mentioned in the petition are integral part of Ahanta under the Traditional authority of his Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XVI, Ahantahene and cannot de delineated to Nzema East Municipality as the petition suggests.

The Stool of Princess Town and its adjourning communities are under the Ahanta Paramount Stool and cannot be elevated to the status of Paramountcy without the consent and concurrence of their overlord, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe, Ahantahene as the petition suggests.

The Chiefs, stakeholders and people of Prusi Akatakyi, Princess Town, Miemia, Egyambra and their adjourning areas have cohabited peacefully from time immemorial in spite of the socio-economic challenges and under development faced by them and the Western Region as a whole.

The Traditional Council wishes to reiterate that, any attempt to delineate the above areas or any part of its traditional Jurisdiction will destabilize the peace in the area and shall be duly resisted by the good people of Ahanta.

The present is to further caution the so-called Western Nzema Youth League to desist from engaging in any activities that seek to instigate and divide the good people of Ahanta in the said areas.

The Traditional Council shall not hesitate to take appropriate legal action against any group or individuals whose actions and or activities is geared towards destabilizing the peace and stability in aforementioned Communities of the Ahanta Traditional Area.
