NAMES AND TITLES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” – Acts 1:8 (NIV)

INTRODUCTION

We learn much more about someone simply by studying the names of the person.The titles of the Holy Spirit inform or remind us of the roles of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life. Most of them indicate an aspect of His function in, or ministry through, the Christian’s life. The Spirit’s names and titles are useful in helping us understand His many manifestations—all that He does for us, and His magnificent role in the Trinity.

13 TITLES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

  1. He is the spirit of God

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? – 1 Corinthians 3:16

  1. He is the spirit of Christ

But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) – Romans 8:9

  1. He is the Eternal Spirit

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! – Hebrews 9:14

4. He is the Spirit of Truth

But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. –John 16:13

 5.He is the Spirit of Grace.

How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?Hebrews 10:29

 6.He is the Spirit of Glory.

 If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you will be blessed, for the glorious Spirit of Godrests upon you. – 1 Peter 4:14

 7.He is the Spirit of Life.

But after the three and a half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. – Revelation 11:11

  1. He is the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him – Ephesians 1:17

 9.He is the Comforter.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto youJohn 14:26

 He is the Spirit of Promise.

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. Acts 1:4

 11.He is the Spirit of Adoption

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”Romans 8:15

  1. He is the spirit of Holiness

and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord – Romans 1:4.

13.He is the Spirit of Faith.

It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak – 2 Corinthians 4:13

Conclusion

Knowing the Holy Spirit by His names and titles helps us to know Him much more and to relate to Him better.The Holy Spirit has been given to us to help us not to sin and have a deep relationship with God through Christ.

He’s been given to us to help us, he’s been given to us to comfort us, he’s been given to us to teach us. Remember that the holy Spirit has truly been given to us, we should not let Him slip from our hands, push Him out of our hearts and treat Him like an unwanted person.
