The Juaben Municipal Assembly has finally elected a new Chief Executive and Presiding Member. The President’s nominee, Omane Aboagye, got the nod of all assembly members last Thursday when he polled 24 votes (100%) to assume office as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
Her Lordship, Rosemary Afua Asante, Circuit Court Judge, officially swore in the newly-elected MCE into office.
Omane Aboagye, thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him, and assured them to deliver, and thanked the Juaben Member of Parliament (MP), Ama Pomaa Boateng, the Juaben Paramount Chief, Daasebre Otuo Serebour, and New Patriotic Party members for their support.
On September 29, 2021, the President nominated Alex Sarfo Kantanka, then New Patriotic Party Juaben Constituency Chairman for the Juaben MCE position, but he was rejected twice on October 12, 2021 and November 1, 2021 by the assembly members.
He became peeved and demanded monies he claimed he had paid to the assembly members to confirm him, for which he was charged with 26 corruption charges in respect of a public election by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, Mr. Osei Tutu, who went unopposed after the two other contestants had stepped down, also secured 79.3% votes to become the Presiding Member of the Assembly.
