The Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, is against the LGBTQ+ bill in Parliament, Lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning has alleged.
According to him, the Asante Akim Central Legislator will face the consequences of his stance on the bill.
“Trust me, Anyimadu will pay the price for the position he has adopted,” he said.
He was responding to a question in Accra on Monday, December 18, 2023 at a media engagement to mark the 10th anniversary of the National Coalition of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values (NCPHSRFV).
The questioner sought the view of the Coalition on the recent face-off in Parliament between Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi and Samuel Nartey George, following the Committee’s inability to move for the consideration stage of the bill, due to the absence of the Committee Chairman, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi.
The Chairman of the Committee, on the Floor of Parliament on December 7, 2023 in refuting the accusation by the Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George, that some majority MPs were delaying the process to pass the bill, said if the bill was clothed with political colours, it would not see the light of day.
Looking disappointed, he narrated that the minority on the committee were aware of the need to meet to iron out some issues in the bill, which had not happened.
“Only for my colleagues on the other side to go out and organise a press conference to the extent that they are going to descend on us at our primaries. And so, this morning, I had to respond by saying that the moment we clothe this bill with political colours, it will not see the light of day,” he said on the floor of the house, a day after Sam George met the press.
However, Lawyer Foh-Amoaning, the Executive Secretary for the NCPHSRFV, in response to the statement of the chairman that the bill may not see daylight if politicised, alleged that the position of the chairman was already known.
Lawyer Foh-Amoaning said the ruling New Patriotic Party, which campaigned with “The battle is the Lord’s,” should be seen championing the bill.
“So, for Anyimadu, who is the leader and NPP man, to be saying that we will see, well, we will see where he himself will be by next year. We will see.”
2024 is an election year, but Foh-Amoaning did not state whether the Coalition would campaign against the MPs who intend to thwart efforts being made to have the bill passed.
According to Lawyer Foh-Amoaning, the bill has not taken on a political dimension, as it is being championed by a Coalition, but there would be political consequences for any party that attempts to torpedo the process.
DECLARE STANCE
At the media engagement on Monday, which had Apostle Opoku Nyinah and other key members of the Christian community in attendance, Foh-Amoaning called on the various political party leaders to make public statement on the LGBTQ+ bill.
He mentioned the presidential candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama and the Independent candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
While at it, he took a swipe at the former Minister for Trade and Industry, who has now formed the Movement for Change, saying that he had no balls to come open on the bill.
“And the current leaders who are being chosen by the political parties, former President Mahama, my good friend Dr. Bawumia and all of them will have to declare their positions. The afrafranto man, have you heard his position on this matter? Brofo nkoa [to wit, only English]. You can report that I said he is fearoo. He should speak. Report that he should say something about his position.”
He said they were using the 10th anniversary to state categorically that Ghanaians want leaders who would be bold enough to lead the country.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Foh-Amoaning was confident that the bill, when passed, would be assented to by the President.
Citing the construction of a National Cathedral by the President, he was confident that the “President is a wise politician. I don’t think he will delay one day.”
PRESENTATION
At the 10th anniversary media engagement, Dr. Isaac N. Arthur, a Medical Doctor and Clinical Psychologist, made a presentation on health science and other medical implications of the LGBTQ+ lifestyle and the holistic sexual therapy system of the Coalition.
His educative presentation focused on misinformation, health issues and the way forward. He said that some people do not understand the reality of LGBTQ+ issues and thus discuss them with sentiment.
He, however, stated that the LGBTQ+ community has some health-related facts that those sentiments cannot cure.
Giving a scientific fact, he said no human was born gay or lesbian, and hormonal imbalances do not automatically equate to being gay or lesbian.
He said that people in the LGBTQ+ lifestyle could not be treated the same, as they all have different reasons for involving themselves, but advised against the practice due to the health implications.
He also said that the right information should be provided for the next generation to educate themselves about the issue and Ghanaian cultural values.
Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, Chairman, Governing Council, NCPHSRFV, said in his closing remarks that those promoting LGBTQ+ in Ghana do not love the country and its people, and want to destroy them. He called on Ghanaians to rise against that campaign.
