Man United host Leeds today, amidst long list of absent players

Brazil star Antony has joined Manchester United’s lengthening list of absentees and will miss Wednesday’s clash with Leeds at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag revealed that the £82million summer signing has been ruled out through injury, while Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are still not ready to return.

United are already without Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek with long-term injuries, and Casmeiro is starting a three-match ban.

‘I always have to play with the players who are available and we have a squad, we have many good players in our squad who are also not playing in the starting XI and I have to do it. ‘After a game I can’t say Casemiro is not there, Anthony Martial is not there, we have to win, this squad all players in are Man United capable, we have to win all the games.’

He added that United will not appeal against Casemiro’s ban after he was shown a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner on Saturday for grabbing Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes by the throat.

He said: ‘Consider, yeah, still it’s for me not the right decision, but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process.’

Leeds sacked Jesse Marsch two days before the two old rivals meets at Old Trafford, but Ten Hag warned that changing manager doesn’t always guarantee improvement.

‘It’s always sad if a manager, a colleague, gets sacked,’ he added. ‘So, in general, I don’t believe in it that you sack a manager and get better results. Most of the time it doesn’t work.
