Mamponteng Chief is angry about lack of infrastructural development

Nana Barima Saasi Ayeboafo II, Chief of Mamponteng the capital of Kwabre East Municipality in the Ashanti region has expressed his disappointment in the government’s extreme neglect of the area in terms of basic infrastructural development.

The chief, while speaking at a press conference at his palace, expressed the disappointment of the chiefs and people of the Kwabre East Municipality which bordered on the current poor state of development of the Municipality.

According to him, the Kwabre East Constituency, which is aptly the World Bank of the ruling government, is the most deprived constituency in the Ashanti region.

He said the Municipal Capital, Mamponteng, has no single tarred road, no public Senior High School, TVET, or STEM, not a single purpose state hospital, while the local market project has been abandoned for the past 35 years.

He said the lack of these facilities belittle the status of Mamponteng as the capital town.

The chief bemoaned the neglect of Fawoade junction-Kenyasi road which is fundamental to easing the perennial traffic congestion on the main Tafo Arterial road and strategic to opening up the place for development remains a major issue of concern.

According to him, the neglect seemed deliberate and punitive; hence Mamponteng was conspicuously missing from the Agenda 111 programme to construct hospitals across the country.

He lamented about what he described as more worrisome, that Kwabre East Constituency polled the highest votes for the ruling party in both 2016 and 2020 elections in the whole of Ashanti region, yet the area has been in total neglect for the past 35 years, an indication of the goose that lay the golden eggs for the ruling party being neglected.

He, therefore, demanded an immediate action by the President and all the relevant government authorities to change the narrative which is fast threatening the very survival of the Kwabre East Municipality in the face of basic infrastructural deficits.

Nana Saasi Ayeboafo II emphasised that Mamponteng is only municipal capital in the country without a single kilometre of tarred road since it was carved out of Sekyere district 35 years ago.

He expressed his disappointment about the abandoned 5.5km town roads project for Mamponteng for which the President cut the sod in October 2019 amid pomp and pageantry.

The sad part of the short-lived project is that the uncovered dug-out trenches left abandoned by the contractor has been posing danger to the town folks claiming victims especially women and children.

The aggrieved chief threatened that the electorate in the area might not maintain their current status as World Bank of the party by way of massive votes if nothing is done to change their plight.
